NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Kane sat on a low stone bench at the edge of the arena while two palace attendants cleaned the cuts.

The facial laceration was shallow but still bled stubbornly.

The slice on his thigh had already clotted. The real problem remained the ribs; Grathak’s earlier kick and the endurance fighter’s body shots had stacked on the same place.

Every deeper breath pulled a sharp, familiar protest. The attendants worked in silence, dabbing elixir and binding the worst of it with practiced efficiency.

The system window hovered at the edge of his vision, quiet and clinical.

[First Measure: Complete]

[Recovery Status: 71% → 79% after basic treatment]

[Rib contusion: stabilized, residual pain expected for 18–24 hours]

[Pack Reputation Shift: +12 overall]

[River-Fang / Southern faction: Notable positive]

[Pure-blood faction: Increased hostility]

[Grathak Interest: Elevated]

Kane dismissed it with a blink and accepted a clean cloth to hold against his cheek.

Around the terraces, the council had not yet fully dispersed.

Low conversations continued. Vorra’s representative stood with her small cluster of southern warriors, expression openly satisfied. Several pure-blood line heads had already left, faces tight with anger they no longer bothered to hide.

High above, Grathak remained on his seat for a long while, red eyes still fixed on the pale slab where the five warriors had submitted. He looked entertained, and already calculating.

Marisa waited until the attendants finished and withdrew. She stepped closer, amber eyes moving over the fresh bandages and the way Kane still favored his left side.

”You stayed cleaner than they wanted,” she said.

”The pure-bloods expected you to lose control once the ribs started hurting. You didn’t give them the picture they needed.”

Kane lowered the cloth and checked the blood.

”That was the point of the First Measure.”

”Yes. And now my brother is thinking about how to take that restraint away from you.” Marisa’s voice stayed even.

”The Second Measure will target the same ribs. It will also target the fact that you refused to cripple or kill. He will make the waves large enough and persistent enough that holding back becomes expensive. You should expect to bleed more.”

Kane gave a short nod.

”I expected that before I stepped onto the slab.”

They left the arena together and walked the quieter upper corridors toward the guest levels.

The palace felt different after the First Measure, more eyes, more open assessment, fewer dismissive stares.

Limited recognition from the River-Fang was no longer an isolated curiosity. It had become the start of a wider calculation.

Evening had settled by the time they reached Kane’s chamber.

Marisa followed him inside without asking permission and closed the door.

She didn’t sit. She stood near the table, arms loosely folded, watching him test the range of motion in his torso.

After a while, she spoke again.

”Do you think about your women from Menual? You are oddly comfortable here for someone who left an entire collection of claims behind.”

Kane didn’t answer at once.

He sat on the edge of the bed, rested his forearms on his knees, and stared at the stone floor for a long moment.

When he finally spoke, his voice was quieter, stripped of the public edge he had carried in the arena.

”If I’m not strong, then I can’t protect them. I could deal damage to Grathak. That much is clear now. But the devils are completely different. My body may react differently to them- Rage, Mark, all of it- but the outcome is still the same. I have to be strong enough to stand in front of them. Otherwise everything I already took, everything already tied to me, becomes paper.”

Marisa studied him in silence.

The political mask thinned just enough to let something more personal through.

”You are romantic for someone who fucks everyone.”

Kane’s mouth curved, tired and genuine.

”It’s exactly why I’m romantic. I don’t keep them because it’s convenient. I keep them because I decided they were worth the weight. That only works if I can still carry it when the sky actually breaks.”

Marisa was quiet for a longer stretch.

Outside the chamber, the palace continued its low evening noise, boots, distant voices, the occasional harsh laugh from warriors still discussing the First Measure.

Finally, she moved to the single high window and looked out over the darkening capital.

”Seventy days,” she said.

”That is the clearest window the visions will give me. After the Second Measure, my brother will either open formal talks or decide you need one more public breaking before he listens. The Third Measure is where the guardian’s power enters. Even a lesser manifestation will not care about your ribs or your restraint. You will have to show more than you showed today.”

Kane leaned back on his hands, feeling the pull across his damaged side.

”How much more?”

”Enough that the packs stop thinking of you as an interesting outsider and start thinking of you as a necessary risk. That is the only way a coalition forms here. Berakamon does not follow quiet competence. It follows the one who can still stand when the familiar itself is looking at him.”

Kane exhaled slowly.

”Then I’ll stand.”

Marisa turned from the window and looked at him fully.

”You should rest while the elixirs finish what they can. Tomorrow the waves will not give you the same clean spaces you had today. And if you plan to use the same... recovery method... as last night, do it early. Once the Second Measure begins, private time becomes harder to find.”

Kane met her eyes.

”I’ll keep that in mind.”

Marisa held the gaze a moment longer, then walked to the door. Her hand rested on the latch.

”The pure-bloods will push for the Second Measure to be lethal. My brother will refuse that, for now, because he is still entertained. Do not give him a reason to stop being entertained. Survive cleanly again, and the board moves in the direction we need. Fail loudly, and seventy days will not matter.”

She left without waiting for an answer. The door closed softly. The lock did not click; the chamber was still only a guest space, not a cell, but the difference felt thinner than it had that morning.

Kane sat alone in the quiet room.

He rose after a while, stripped the light armor, and began a slow, careful series of movements across the open floor- nothing that would tear the rib contusion open again, everything focused on keeping the Controlled Berserker Output responsive and precise.

The system tracked the light training in the background, offering small corrections and a running recovery percentage that crept upward with frustrating patience.
