NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Evening settled over the southern approaches in a thick green dusk.

The hunting party had followed the corrupted tracks until the light began to fail, then pulled back to a defensible rise where the trees thinned enough for a clear perimeter.

Shenron’s warriors moved in a loose circle around the small clearing, weapons ready, ears and noses working constantly.

Kessa ranged the outer edge with them.

Griselda took a higher perch on a thick branch, wings half-open, yellow eyes scanning the darkening canopy.

In the center of the clearing, Kane and Shenron sat on opposite sides of a low, carefully banked fire.

A clay bottle of dark forest wine passed between them.

The earlier tension of the River-Fang meeting and the mutant trail still sat in the air, but the shared watch had sanded some of the sharper edges off it.

Shenron took a long pull from the bottle and handed it across.

”You spoke to Vorra like a man who already owns the ground he stands on. Most outsiders who try that leave in pieces.”

Kane drank, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, and set the bottle down between them.

”She needed the straight version. Soft words wouldn’t have moved her.”

”They didn’t move her much anyway. Limited recognition is not alliance.”

”It’s more than silence. I’ll take it.”

Shenron’s red eyes reflected the firelight. He studied Kane for a moment longer.

”My sister chose you. That still sits wrong with me. She never let any male in the outer packs close enough to mark her. Then she walks back in smelling like she’s been thoroughly claimed by a human and expects the family to accept it.”

Kane leaned back on one hand.

”She didn’t ask permission. Neither did I.”

A short, rough breath that might have been almost a laugh left Shenron.

”No. She didn’t.”

They passed the bottle again.

Somewhere in the dark, a night bird called and was answered.

The warriors on the perimeter remained quiet and focused.

Kane’s mouth curved slightly.

”Your mother, on the other hand, made her interest very clear. Nearly climbed into my lap the moment she caught the scent. I thought Kessa was going to drag her into the yard by the tail.”

Shenron’s hand tightened on the neck of the bottle.

For a second, his other hand moved toward the broadsword resting beside him. The motion stopped halfway.

His red eyes narrowed, but the anger was more theatrical than lethal.

”Careful, human. That is still my mother.”

”I’m aware. I’m also aware she was one hard breath away from offering to ride me in front of the whole compound. Your sister nearly lost her mind.”

Shenron exhaled through his nose and released the bottle.

”Lira’s cycles have always been... direct. Being mated does not stop her from noticing strong blood when it walks through the gate. Kessa gets that particular trait from her.”

”I noticed.”

They drank again in silence for a short stretch.

The wine was heavy and resinous, the kind that settled low in the stomach and kept the edge off the night chill.

Shenron’s warriors continued their slow circuit.

Kessa appeared briefly at the edge of the firelight, checked both of them with a quick glance, then disappeared back into the trees.

Shenron spoke again, quieter.

”You still intend to face Grathak.”

”Yes.”

”He has held these lands for two hundred years. Packs that tried to rise against him are bones under the deep roots. You understand that.”

”I understand that the things pushing mutants this far south won’t stop because he has held power a long time. If he won’t turn the packs outward, someone else will have to.”

Shenron was silent for a while. The fire cracked. Far off, something large moved through undergrowth and then went still.

”You are either the most useful outsider these borders have seen in decades,” Shenron said at last, ”or you are going to get my sister killed along with yourself. I have not decided which.”

Kane met his eyes across the fire.

”When you decide, say it plainly. I’ll answer the same way.”

Before Shenron could reply, the forest changed.

A roar tore through the trees, deep, wet, and wrong.

It was not the sound of any natural beast. It carried layers: a bear’s rage, something reptilian, and underneath it a high, almost metallic shriek that did not belong in living lungs.

Every warrior on the perimeter froze, then turned toward the sound with weapons raised.

Kessa reappeared at the edge of the clearing, ears flat, striped fur bristling along her arms.

Griselda dropped from her branch in a controlled fall, wings opening just enough to land lightly beside Kane.

Shenron was already on his feet, broadsword in hand. Kane rose with Mjoldr settling into his grip.

The system window flared hard across Kane’s vision without being called.

[System Alert – High-Threat Entity Detected]

[Classification: Aberrant Mutant – New Variant]

[Threat Level: Severe]

[Corruption Signature: Demon Essence – Concentrated]

[Warning: Standard physical damage may be insufficient]

[Recommendation: Extreme caution / Full combat protocols]

Kane dismissed the window with a thought.

The roar came again, closer. Trees shuddered. Something heavy crashed through the undergrowth with none of the care of a normal predator.

It broke into the edge of the clearing a moment later.

The mutant was massive, larger than the corrupted bear they had killed on the road in.

Its body looked like it had been assembled from pieces that should never have belonged together.

The core was ursine, but the spine had elongated and sprouted ridges of black, glistening bone.

One shoulder carried a cluster of smaller, grasping limbs that ended in human-like hands.

The head was a nightmare of exposed teeth and too many eyes: some ursine, some vertical and slit-pupiled, some pure black and weeping a thick, tar-like fluid.

Its hide was a patchwork of fur, scales, and raw, pulsing flesh where the corruption had eaten through.

When it breathed, the air that left its jaws shimmered with the same wrong heat Kane had felt near the earlier mutant, only stronger.

The beast warriors recoiled as one. Even Shenron’s grip on his broadsword tightened until the leather creaked.

”New kind,” Shenron said, voice flat. ”Haven’t seen that shape before.”

Kessa’s voice was tight.

”It’s not just corrupted. It’s building itself.”

The mutant’s many eyes fixed on the fire and the living bodies around it. The smaller limbs on its shoulder flexed and reached. It roared again, shorter, hungrier, and charged.

Kane moved first.

He met the charge with Mjoldr already swinging in a heavy horizontal arc meant to take the creature at the base of the neck.

Shiing!

The axe head connected with a solid impact that should have cleaved deep.

Instead, it bit only a hand’s breadth into the patchwork hide and stopped as if it had struck layered stone and sinew that refused to part.

Black fluid welled around the embedded edge.

The mutant didn’t slow.

Kane’s eyes widened a fraction.

”Fuck.”
