Role Stealer: The Script Executioner

The Silver Forest was weeping.

As Arthur and the Gold-Rank party sprinted through the shimmering undergrowth, the very air seemed heavy with a synthetic sorrow. The guardians they had left behind were still on their knees, their silver armor tarnished by the ”Genre Override” Arthur had forced upon the environment. The logic of the floor had been bent; for now, the system viewed them not as intruders, but as tragic protagonists in a story too painful to interrupt.

”Keep moving!” Arthur’s voice cut through the soft, melodic sobbing of the trees. ”The override is a localized glitch. The Tower’s auto-correct will kick in the moment we leave this sector.”

Kael, the party leader, was running alongside Arthur, his eyes constantly darting toward the small man in the obsidian mask. He wanted to ask a thousand questions. He wanted to know how a Porter could rewrite the fundamental laws of a High-Rank floor. But the sheer pressure radiating from Arthur—a cold, void-like presence—kept his tongue tied.

”Arthur, look!” Sarah shouted, pointing ahead.

The silver trees were thinning, giving way to a massive clearing dominated by a lake of liquid mercury. In the center of the lake stood a solitary pavilion made of white marble, and beyond it, the floating fortress loomed closer, its shadow casting a long, dark streak across the shimmering water.

But standing on the shore, blocking their path, was something that didn’t belong in a ”Romantic Tragedy.”

It was a giant, mechanical construct, its body made of interlocking brass gears and glowing blue circuits. It had no face, only a single, rotating lens that emitted a harsh, clinical light. Unlike the silver guardians, this creature didn’t have a silver tear in its eye. It wasn’t crying. It wasn’t even moving.

”Warning,” the construct’s voice was a flat, metallic monotone. ”Narrative Inconsistency Detected. Sector 11-B is experiencing a Genre Mismatch. Initiating Debug Protocol.”

Arthur skidded to a halt, his boots kicking up silver dust. ”Damn it. A System Auditor.”

”Is that... another guardian?” Jax asked, his hand hovering over his daggers.

”No,” Arthur said, his eyes narrowing behind his mask. ”The silver guardians are ’Narrative Assets’. They live within the story. That thing is a ’System Utility’. It doesn’t care about the genre. It only cares about the code.”

The Auditor’s lens turned red. ”Scanning Assets... Asset ’Porter’ (Rank F) exhibits unauthorized Architect permissions. Asset ’Kael’ (Rank Gold) is out of bounds. Solution: Hard Reset.”

The ground beneath them began to vibrate. The lake of mercury started to rise, forming into jagged, metallic spikes that pointed directly at the party.

”Scatter!” Kael yelled, diving to the left just as a spike of mercury shot through the air where he had been standing.

The party went into action. Sarah unleashed a barrage of holy arrows, but they simply dissolved upon contact with the Auditor’s blue energy shield. Bran and his twin brother charged forward, their axes swinging in unison, but the Auditor didn’t even flinch. It simply adjusted a gear in its chest, and a shockwave of pure kinetic energy sent the two warriors flying backward into the trees.

”It’s too strong!” Sarah cried out, her face pale. ”Our attacks aren’t even registering!”

”Of course they aren’t,” Arthur muttered, his hand reaching for the obsidian shard. ”You’re trying to damage an administrator with player-level stats. It’s like trying to kill a ghost with a sword.”

Arthur stepped forward, his white hair fluttering in the wind generated by the Auditor’s humming core.

”Arthur, get back!” Kael shouted, struggling to stand. ”You can’t take that thing head-on!”

Arthur didn’t listen. He looked at the Auditor, and for the first time since entering the Tower, a small, cold smile played on his lips.

”Debug Protocol, huh?” Arthur said, his voice loud enough to be heard over the roar of the lake. ”You think you’re the one fixing the errors? You’re just a sub-routine, a glorified janitor for a dying system.”

The Auditor’s lens pulsed. ”Logic Error: Asset ’Porter’ is engaging in unauthorized dialogue. Commencing Deletion.”

The Auditor raised its arm, and the liquid mercury from the lake gathered into a massive, swirling orb above its head. The energy was immense, enough to vaporize the entire clearing.

”Arthur, run!” Sarah screamed.

But Arthur didn’t run. He closed his eyes and felt the ’Architect Authority’ surging through his veins. He wasn’t just a Porter anymore. He was the man who had built the foundations of this reality.

”Accessing Command Console,” Arthur whispered. ”User: Arthur. Permission Level: Lead Architect (Revoked... Overriding...). Command: Nullify Logic Gate.”

The obsidian shard in his hand shattered.

The black fragments didn’t fall to the ground. They dissolved into a cloud of void-mist that swirled around Arthur, forming a protective barrier just as the Auditor unleashed the mercury orb.

The explosion was silent.

When the light faded, the clearing was gone. The trees were charred, the lake was a smoking crater, and the Gold-Rank party was huddled on the ground, shielded by a faint, blue dome Sarah had managed to cast at the last second.

But in the center of the destruction, Arthur stood untouched.

The Auditor, however, was frozen. Its brass gears were locked, and its blue circuits were flickering erratically. A black, jagged crack had appeared on its central lens.

”System... Failure...” the Auditor stuttered. ”Unrecognized... Command... Who... are... you?”

Arthur walked up to the mechanical giant, his footsteps echoing in the dead silence. He reached out and placed his hand on the Auditor’s chest, right over its glowing core.

”I’m the guy who’s about to fire you,” Arthur said.

He twisted his hand, and a surge of void energy poured into the construct. The Auditor didn’t explode; it imploded. The brass and gears collapsed inward, turning into a small, dense ball of scrap metal that fell to the ground with a dull thud.

The silence that followed was deafening.

Kael, Sarah, and the others stood up slowly, their eyes fixed on Arthur. The small, weak Porter was gone. Standing before them was a figure draped in shadows, his white hair glowing like a ghost in the moonlight, his obsidian mask reflecting the emptiness of the void.

”Arthur...” Sarah whispered, her voice trembling. ”What did you just do?”

Arthur didn’t look back. He started walking toward the white marble pavilion.

”I just patched a bug,” he said coldly. ”Now, let’s go. The floating fortress isn’t going to conquer itself.”

As they followed him, Kael noticed something. The silver trees were no longer crying. They were silent. It was as if the entire floor was holding its breath, waiting to see what the ’Role Stealer’ would do next.

Arthur looked up at the floating fortress. He could feel a presence there—a ’Major Character’ who had been watching the entire fight.

Finally, Arthur thought. A script worth rewriting.
