Role Stealer: The Script Executioner

Kai burst through the shattered oak doors of the Royal Library, Sunbringer’s golden light flickering like a dying candle in a storm. The walls around him weren’t just shaking; they were thinning. In some places, the marble had turned into translucent sheets of vellum, revealing a terrifying white void behind them.

Kai! Over there! Clara shouted, her staff glowing with a frantic silver light.

Leo was slumped at the base of the central pedestal, his right hand clamped onto the Architect’s Ledger. His body was a mess of flickering charcoal lines and solid flesh, vibrating so violently he looked like a blurred photograph. Three figures stood over him—Script Guardians clad in paper armor inscribed with black, bleeding ink.

Step away from him! Kai roared, charging across the hall.

One of the Guardians turned, its hand elongating into a blade of solid, dried ink. Intrusion detected. Classification: Narrative Glitch. Procedure: Immediate Deletion.

The Guardian lunged with mechanical precision. Kai didn’t parry. He dropped low, sliding across the polished floor, his eyes glowing with Script Insight.

Targeting the source, Kai whispered.

He saw the red thread behind the Guardian’s neck—the line of text that held its form together. Kai twisted his wrist, driving Sunbringer upward in a sharp, golden arc. The blade sliced through the thread, and the Guardian exploded into a cloud of drifting letters that vanished before they hit the ground.

Clara! The other two are yours! Break their logic! Kai shouted as he reached Leo.

Clara raised her staff, a vortex of silver mana swirling around her. Paradox Flame: Burn the Contradiction!

The silver fire slammed into the remaining Guardians. They didn’t burn with heat; they burned with errors. The text on their armor began to overlap and scramble, their bodies twisting into impossible shapes until they collapsed under the weight of their own narrative inconsistencies.

Leo! Look at me! Hold on! Kai grabbed his friend’s shoulder.

Kai... the book... it’s alive... Leo wheezed, his voice sounding like two radio stations fighting for the same frequency. It’s trying... it’s trying to write my ending right now...

Kai looked at the Ledger. The ink was moving across the page with impossible speed, forming a new sentence: And so Leo, the Loyal Shield, perished in the darkness, a sacrifice for a friend who had already lost his soul...

Not today, Kai growled.

He slammed his bare hand onto the page. The ink burned like acid, the heat searing through his skin and into his very bones.

Narrative Authority: Delete Line!

Kai’s hand erupted in a dark red glow from the shard he held. The black words on the page began to retreat, erased by the sheer force of his will.

[Alert: You are editing a Core Text! Screen Time Cost: 100 Hours!]

Do it! Kai screamed, his vision blurring from the strain.

The sentence vanished. Leo’s form stabilized instantly, the charcoal lines on his arm filling in with solid, living flesh.

What have you done? a voice asked.

The world stopped. The silver flames in the air froze. The drifting letters became motionless motes of dust.

A man stood in the center of the hall. He wore no armor, carried no sword. He was dressed in a simple charcoal suit, holding a white quill pen. He had no shadow, and his presence felt like a void that sucked the air out of the room.

You are messing with my draft, Kai, the man said, adjusting his spectacles. And that makes me very inclined to use the eraser.

Kai looked at the man, a primal fear gripping his heart. This wasn’t an Apostle. This wasn’t a Critic.

You... the Architect? Kai asked, his voice trembling.

The man offered a thin, emotionless smile. I am the one who writes the beginning and the end. And you... you are just a spelling error I am about to correct.

He raised his quill, and the world around Kai began to dissolve into a blinding, absolute white.
