The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 1817: Chapter 1818: If You Can Convince Nathalie Quinlan, I’ll Let Her Go

After all, the circumstances surrounding Caryn Zachmann’s case are egregious. Celine Tucker insists on pleading not guilty instead of seeking leniency, but the odds of success for such a defense are minuscule, almost impossible to win.

Mr. Avalon felt uncertain, but he had to reassure the anxious Celine Tucker: ”As long as Ms. Zachmann doesn’t plead guilty, there is still hope.”

”I understand. I’ve spoken with her, and she won’t plead guilty. It’s all up to you now, Mr. Avalon,” Celine said, her head held high as she continued speaking with the lawyer.

Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a black Range Rover stop not far from her.

Immediately, the car door opened, and Riandy Heburn stepped out.

Her eyes lit up. After a brief pause, she mustered the courage to call out: ”Mr. Heburn.”

”About that letter of understanding...”

She hadn’t given up hope.

If Riandy Heburn agreed to sign the letter of understanding before the trial, everything could still be salvaged.

But when Riandy Heburn turned and saw her, he only gave her a fleeting glance and said, ”Mrs. Zachmann, I stand by what I said. If you can find a way to get Ms. Quinlan to back off, I’ll let Caryn Zachmann off the hook as well. If you can’t, forget about that letter of understanding!”

”There’s no such thing as a free lunch in this world, especially when Caryn Zachmann caused my mother’s death. Why would I just sign that letter for you for nothing?”

”...” Celine Tucker found herself at a loss for words due to his retort.

Riandy Heburn saw her struggling to respond, fueling his inexplicable anger.

After all, he too had been stressed over the cargo issues for the past couple of days, and Jeremiah Bonette kept giving him trouble.

Starting yesterday, another very powerful force in Beijing, so powerful that he couldn’t even discern its origins, began targeting the Heburn Family.

The reason he personally came to the court today, to put it bluntly, was to take a gamble.

He was gambling that Nathalie Quinlan would also show up.

Additionally, he wanted to use Caryn Zachmann as a bargaining chip, hoping that someone from the Zachmann Family might convince Nathalie Quinlan to relent for the sake of Caryn’s future...

But upon seeing Celine Tucker’s ill-prepared demeanor, his heart sank.

When Riandy Heburn looked at the lawyer standing beside her, his expression turned colder. Slightly raising his chin, he asked, ”Are you Caryn Zachmann’s defense attorney?”

The lawyer didn’t dare make eye contact, significantly lacking confidence: ”Ah, yes, yes I am Ms. Zachmann’s lawyer.”

”Hmph.” Riandy Heburn easily discerned his lack of ability, scoffing before refocusing on Celine Tucker: ”Mrs. Zachmann, I advise you that while the trial hasn’t started yet, have a good talk with Nathalie Quinlan. If she’s willing to back down, the trial can be called off today. If you’re unwilling to do that, just relying on the lawyer you’ve found, thinking you can go up against me, you’re definitely overestimating things.”

He couldn’t be bothered arguing with Celine Tucker at the courthouse entrance, so after saying this, he told his entourage: ”Let’s go.”

Surrounding him were three or four elite-looking lawyers. As Riandy Heburn mentioned, if Nathalie Quinlan didn’t relent, the Heburn Family was going all out to win the case.

Just a glance at the defense team prepared by the Heburn Family made Celine Tucker feel like she was doused with cold water, chilling her to the core.

Holding the strap of her handbag, she gritted her teeth, only able to follow them inside hesitantly.

...

Today’s trial was drawing a lot of attention.

The courthouse was already swarmed with reporters and some social media influencers seeking sensational news.

When Celine Tucker and Riandy Heburn arrived, many pointed their cameras at them, eager not to miss any detail.
