Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Chapter 90: Chapter 88: There’s No Comparison Between You and Her (Part 4)

Of course, Catherine Callahan wasn’t going to tell anyone that she had put tasteless, colorless, long-acting sleeping pills in Quentin Grant’s favorite bowl. A small dose of this particular drug would only take effect after three or four hours.

No one knew that the moment she discovered Nora Ainsworth was the woman who satisfied Quentin’s physical needs, her mind was instantly flooded with ideas on how to eliminate her.

She had thought that once she moved in, Nora Ainsworth wouldn’t come back.

But to her surprise, Quentin had brought her back anyway.

Just looking at Nora’s face was enough to conjure images of her beneath Quentin.

’She absolutely refused to let that happen!’

Catherine Callahan went downstairs, her mood significantly improved.

Nora Ainsworth struggled to lie down on the bed, the pain in her leg making it nearly impossible to sleep.

She lay there stiffly, even the thought of turning over was a distant dream.

For her, the night was pure, agonizing torture.

She only managed to drift into a fitful sleep as dawn broke.

Her breakfast and lunch were brought to her, but she didn’t touch them. It wasn’t until the afternoon that she slowly came to, her face a few shades paler.

The kitchen maid, Yvonne, brought her the reheated meal again. ”Miss Ainsworth, it’s time for lunch.”

Nora Ainsworth looked at her. ’Such a kind-looking girl,’ she had always thought. She never imagined Yvonne had been putting on a show for her with Catherine Callahan last night.

’It turns out everyone here is more cunning than I am.’

”Just leave it there.”

Yvonne left it there and walked out.

Nora Ainsworth sat up and started to eat her dinner, feeling dizzy.

This was only the beginning.

To her surprise, Quentin Grant didn’t show up for more than twenty days straight.

Catherine Callahan, on the other hand, visited every day under the guise of being concerned.

By now, she had fully recovered.

She had spent over a month recuperating.

”Miss Ainsworth, why don’t you come to my room for a chat? There’s something I need to talk to you about,” Catherine Callahan said with a placid smile. With so many servants around, Nora Ainsworth couldn’t refuse.

”Alright.”

Her hair was down and slightly disheveled.

Once they were in the backyard, Catherine Callahan dropped the pretense. ”Quentin hasn’t called on you to satisfy his needs in a long time. You won’t be staying here much longer. Why don’t you show some self-respect, pack your things, and leave on your own?”

”I want to hear that from him directly.” It wasn’t the first time he had gone a long time without contacting her.

Catherine Callahan snorted. ”It seems you’re still harboring delusions. But let me give you some advice: don’t get any ideas. He will never marry you.”

”He doesn’t want to marry me, and I don’t want to marry him.”

”What did you say?” Catherine Callahan’s voice was laced with ice. ”I’ll be direct with you since I don’t like beating around the bush. If you don’t leave on your own, don’t blame me for making you suffer. Miss Ainsworth, he’s a man who doesn’t love you; he’s only interested in your body. Believe it or not, it won’t be long before you’re thrown out of here in disgrace.”

Nora Ainsworth looked her in the eye. ”Oh, I believe you. I believe you can really do it. After all, as the saying goes: there’s no happy couple that can’t be broken up, only a homewrecker who isn’t trying hard enough.”

Without any warning, Catherine Callahan raised her hand and slapped her across the face, her own lips trembling with rage. ”How dare you! Say that to me one more time!”

Nora’s expression remained impassive. ”As the saying goes: there’s no happy couple that can’t be broken up, only a homewrecker who isn’t trying hard enough. And while he and I aren’t a couple and you aren’t technically a homewrecker, don’t the methods you’re using right now prove that saying perfectly?”

Catherine Callahan went to slap her again, but Nora caught her wrist. With a sharp twist, Nora flung her hand away, causing Catherine to stumble back several steps.

”Nora Ainsworth, I’ll make you watch with your own two eyes as Quentin grows tired of you, bit by bit, until he tells you to get the hell out of his life. You just wait and see!”

”Warner!” she called out.

A huge, ferocious Tibetan Mastiff bounded out of its cage and ran toward Catherine Callahan. It stopped at her leg, tongue lolling out, and obediently sat down.

”Kill her for me. Bite her hard,” Catherine Callahan commanded. Warner immediately shot up and lunged at Nora Ainsworth.

Catherine Callahan knew exactly how dangerous a Tibetan Mastiff could be. Today, she was determined to make Nora Ainsworth suffer.

Nora had only just recovered and her leg was still stiff. Warner leaped more than a meter into the air, easily knocking her to the ground.

It opened its gaping, fanged mouth to bite her neck.

But Nora was prepared for self-defense. She pulled out a gun she’d had ready and fired directly at the beast.

With a pained YELP, Warner scrambled off her and began writhing on the ground.

The triumphant look on Catherine Callahan’s face turned to panic. ”Help!” she shrieked hysterically. ”Someone, help! Nora Ainsworth is committing murder!”

The Men in Black rushed over, all of them witnessing Nora Ainsworth sitting on the ground with a gun in her hand.

Someone immediately called Quentin Grant.

The Tibetan Mastiff was not hit in a vital spot, but it still lay motionless on the ground, its eyes open.

Catherine Callahan was a sobbing mess, looking as if she was about to stop breathing. One of the Men in Black quickly called for an ambulance.

When Quentin Grant arrived, the scene he found was Catherine Callahan clutching her chest with lifeless eyes, gasping for breath. Warner was bleeding from his stomach, and Nora Ainsworth was still holding the gun.

She didn’t say a word, sitting silently on the ground.

Quentin Grant didn’t speak either. He immediately scooped up Catherine Callahan and carried her to the ambulance. The mastiff was taken to a veterinary hospital to have the bullet removed.

The Men in Black left, and a few servants began whispering amongst themselves.

Nora Ainsworth was still sitting there.

Her arms and neck were bleeding from where the beast’s claws had scratched her, but no one noticed.

The vicious sun beat down on the earth. She sat there until Quentin Grant returned from the hospital, which was two hours later.

He stood before her. She kept her head down, utterly silent.

”What happened?”

Only then did she slowly stand and meet his gaze. ”There’s no need to say.”

”If you don’t tell me, how am I supposed to know who was right and who was wrong?”

”If I say it, will you believe me?”

”If you don’t say it, how can I believe you?”

Nora Ainsworth turned and walked away, heading toward her bedroom.

Quentin Grant was left standing alone in the backyard.

He narrowed his eyes as he watched her walk away, then went to the security room.

He pulled up the surveillance footage from the backyard and sat there alone, watching.

The footage had no audio, but the picture was perfectly clear.

So clear, in fact, that even the expressions on their faces were plain to see.

Naturally, he saw Catherine Callahan call for Warner, and he saw the dog lunge at Nora Ainsworth unprovoked.

As he watched the dog viciously attack Nora Ainsworth, a chilling thought struck him.

’If Nora hadn’t had a gun, would she be in the hospital right now, fighting for her life?’

’Or worse, would she have been beyond saving?’

’If that had happened... even if he’d had the beast put down on the spot, what good would it have done?’

He sat there, watching the footage, watching her sit under the hot sun for a very long time.
