Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Chapter 76: Chapter 74: I Love Her, but I Never Dared to Dream of Letting Her Know (3)

”What do you mean, no? Go dance. Ethan, you go with her.”

Jean Grant instinctively refused. ”I don’t want to dance with him.”

Ethan Ellsworth’s pride was a little wounded. ”Even if you wanted to, you’d still have to see if *I* was willing.”

Jean Grant glared at him. ”That’s right. For someone like you, there are plenty of women who’d be willing.”

Ethan Ellsworth said sheepishly, ”Good that you know.”

Jean Grant turned and walked away.

”Where are you going?” Quentin Grant called after her.

”To find our mom.” Her voice was drowned out by the music.

Herman Hawthorne sighed dramatically. ”The world of love is just so complicated. I love you, but you love him, and he... he loves another~”

Ethan Ellsworth looked a little defeated, but his smile never faded. ”’One person’s loneliness, two people’s mistake. Maybe it wasn’t your fault, it was because you were too lonely~’”

”Are you two trying to start a singing competition?” Quentin Grant waved Nora Ainsworth over. ”Come here.”

Nora Ainsworth obediently walked over.

Quentin Grant looked her up and down. ”Not bad. Herman has good taste. This outfit must be over a hundred thousand, right?”

Nora Ainsworth finally spoke. ”It is. So, I’ll have to ask President Grant to pay Herman back.”

He shot her a sideways glance. ”Why talk about money between us? You don’t need to mention things like that when buying something for a woman.”

After speaking, he subconsciously looked at her.

Nora Ainsworth felt a little awkward. ”What are you looking at?!”

Quentin Grant reached out, his hand moving toward her ear.

He went to lift her mask, and Nora Ainsworth didn’t stop him.

The mask lifted slightly from her face, revealing an exquisite countenance to him.

Then it was quickly lowered back into place.

Curious, Ethan Ellsworth also reached out to lift Nora Ainsworth’s mask. After seeing her face, he instantly stumbled back two steps.

”You were already gorgeous. Are you trying to make every other woman here give up on life?”

Nora Ainsworth thought he was overreacting. She didn’t consider herself a peerless beauty.

”I’m going to the restroom.”

She turned, descended the steps, and headed for the restroom.

To her surprise, Sharon Ainsworth walked right past her without recognizing her.

”Sharon, I just saw Young Master Grant arrive too,” a heavily made-up woman whispered.

Sharon Ainsworth replied listlessly, ”I saw him too.”

’So what if I saw him? Ever since Father personally went to the Grant Family to discuss the matter two months ago, Quentin had shown no deference at all, flatly refusing to ever mention the engagement again.’

’A perfectly good engagement, gone just like that for no reason. How could she not be filled with hatred? She felt as if her entire life’s happiness had been stolen from her.’

”You should have been the rightful Mrs. Grant, Sharon. If you ask me, that Nora Ainsworth and her mother are just bad omens. Not only was Nora’s wedding to the Lynch family called off, but her mother had the gall to die on the sixth day of the Lunar New Year.”

Nora Ainsworth looked at the speaker, a woman she didn’t recognize.

”Tell me about it,” Sharon spat. ”Just don’t let me see her. If I do, I swear I won’t let her get away with it!”

”When I was on my way here tonight, a friend saw her going into a high-end boutique with Young Master Hawthorne. I’d already heard rumors that they’re quite close now. She really has her methods.”

Sharon Ainsworth’s expression turned grim; she already knew about this.

”He’s just toying with her. With her family background, there’s no way the Hawthorne Family would ever approve of her.”

Although she said that, inwardly, Sharon Ainsworth was green with envy. ’Nora Ainsworth’s skill at snagging men is truly something else. So the reason she never agreed to be with Leon Lynch was because she had a better target in her sights.’

”That’s only natural. Just think about how she and her mother lived it up in your family’s home. And now that they’ve left, she repays your kindness by ruining your engagement. She’ll definitely come to a bad end. We’ll just wait and see how Young Master Hawthorne dumps her.”

Sharon Ainsworth put her makeup back into her purse and huffed, ”We’ll just wait and see!”

”Sharon, let’s go back out.”

”Okay.”

The sound of high heels gradually faded until it was inaudible.

The sound of running water also stopped abruptly.

Nora Ainsworth twisted the faucet shut, staring expressionlessly at her reflection in the mirror.

She gave a cold laugh. Just as she was about to leave, she found a fat man standing in the doorway.

’To be precise, a character she’d been wanting to deal with for a while.’

It was Mrs. Lynch’s nephew, Quincy.

”Hehe, hello there, beautiful~” he said with a sleazy smile, revealing a row of yellow teeth.

Hearing this, Nora Ainsworth knew he hadn’t recognized her either.

She pointed at the door, signaling for him to close it.

Quincy’s eyes lit up. He scurried over to close the door. ”Looks like you’ve taken a liking to me, beautiful. Don’t worry, I’ll marry you.”

Nora Ainsworth remained silent, her gaze indicating that he should close his eyes.

He did as he was told, standing there gleefully with his potbelly sticking out.

Nora Ainsworth clenched her fist, raised her foot, and kicked him right in the face. After a wail of pain, he actually passed out, just like that.

Nora Ainsworth shook out her hand. ’Too easy.’ She dragged him into a stall, locked it from the inside, and then climbed out over the top.

Only then did she leave the restroom.

Coming back around the corridor, she looked again at the spot where Quentin Grant had been standing, but he was already gone.

She glanced toward the main hall and saw a large crowd gathered together.

She was too far away to see clearly what was happening.

As she got closer, she saw a woman, also wearing a mask, down on one knee—she was actually pleading for his love.

And the object of her plea was none other than Quentin Grant.

Everyone was crowded around, watching for his reaction.

Nearby, Mrs. Grant was also getting anxious. ”Quentin?”

Quentin Grant snapped to his senses, a scornful smirk playing on his lips. ”You aren’t worthy of pleading for my love. Get out of here before I lose my temper.”

The woman, half-kneeling on the floor, was already on edge. Although his words were expected, they still sent a thorough chill through her heart.

Nora Ainsworth moved closer for a better look. The woman on the floor was clearly Catherine Callahan from the previous night.

His old flame, kneeling before him in public, pleading for his love.

’What kind of convoluted history could make him say such things to the woman he once loved most?’

The moment Quentin Grant spoke, all the women present had ”I knew it” expressions on their faces.

The crowd burst into murmurs, and all sorts of harsh words reached the ears of the people involved.

Herman Hawthorne frowned and said nothing. Ethan Ellsworth, enjoying the show, smirked faintly.

”Quentin, regardless of whether you still love me or not, regardless of how much I hurt you, I had my reasons. I regret it. I should have explained everything to you. You deserve to know. Quentin, please forgive me.”

At these words, Mrs. Grant’s expression was the first to change. Her smiling face instantly turned stormy. She yelled at the security guards, ”Security! Get this woman out of here! Quickly!”

Catherine Callahan grew bolder, dropping to both knees and grabbing his pant leg. ”Quentin, I didn’t want to be a burden to you! I have a congenital heart defect, and an eye disease as well. I can’t bear you children. These things are hereditary. At first, I thought that if I left you like that, your love for me would never change as long as it was real. It was only when you were about to get married that I realized how foolish I was. As long as I’m alive, I want to be with you! I can’t have your children, but we can find a surrogate! Quentin—”
