Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Chapter 81: Chapter 79: Not Hacking Him to Pieces Is Letting Him Off Easy (Part 2)

Hearing this, Nora Ainsworth dared not move an inch.

She pricked up her ears, waiting to hear Quentin Grant’s explanation.

”It’s just a physical need. There’s no woman I’m in love with at the moment.”

For some reason, Nora Ainsworth felt an indescribable, negative emotion stirring within her.

Although Catherine Callahan felt a trace of relief, the fact that he had slept with another woman was laid bare before her. She recalled that this whole situation was her fault for leaving so abruptly. Even though she was dying to know who the woman in his bed was, now was clearly not the time to ask.

”Alright, then. Let’s go downstairs.”

Quentin Grant assumed Nora Ainsworth had gone to another room. It never crossed his mind that she would be hiding on the narrow ledge of the balcony wall.

The sound of footsteps faded away.

Nora Ainsworth carefully stood up, her feet completely numb. Just as she was about to jump back over, one of her legs suddenly gave out. To the utter disbelief of a group of Men in Black below, she plummeted from the second floor.

A sickening crack echoed as cold sweat beaded on her forehead. The pain was excruciating, but she didn’t dare cry out.

The Men in Black didn’t dare leave their posts. After exchanging glances, one of them quickly ran into the living room.

”Young Master.” The man walked directly to Quentin Grant’s side and whispered, ”Miss Ainsworth fell from the upper floor.”

Quentin Grant’s expression flickered, then smoothed into an impassive mask. ”Escort Miss Callahan out.”

The Man in Black immediately complied.

He stood there, taking a moment to compose himself, then suddenly cursed, ”Idiot!”

Outside the living room, he looked at the row of expressionless guards he had personally trained and grew angry. ”Where is she? What’s her location?”

”Twenty meters to the right,” they answered in unison, their voices disciplined and orderly.

”Then what are you standing around for? Get the car ready, now! We’re going to the hospital!”

When Quentin Grant rushed to Nora Ainsworth’s side, she had bitten her lip so hard in pain that beads of blood had formed.

He carefully lifted her into his arms, his face ashen with anger. ”Were you hatched from an ostrich egg in your past life?! How could you fall from the second floor?”

Nora Ainsworth opened her eyes. ”Your ex-girlfriend went into the room. I had nowhere else to hide. Weren’t you the one who said I couldn’t be seen? So I hid on the outer wall of the balcony.”

Quentin Grant was so angry he was speechless. He quickly got into the car and headed straight for the hospital.

At the hospital entrance, he immediately ordered two of his subordinates, ”Carry her inside. It’s not convenient for me to be seen.”

The two men quickly carried Nora Ainsworth into the hospital.

Quentin Grant didn’t leave right away. He sat in the car, his heart burning with anxiety.

When he recognized this unusual emotion in himself, he paradoxically calmed down.

Over an hour later, one of the Men in Black came out to report. ”Young Master, Miss Ainsworth has a fractured leg. She’s been settled in and just needs to rest and recover.”

Quentin Grant grunted. ”You two stay here and watch over her.”

With that, he drove to his company.

The assessment was tomorrow. Now that this had happened, she obviously couldn’t go. But if she didn’t take the assessment, she would lose her legitimate reason to get away from Quentin Grant.

Nora Ainsworth took the initiative to call Herman Hawthorne. ”Boss, I’m in the hospital right now—”

After hearing her out, Herman Hawthorne was speechless. ”You really are one of a kind. I’ll come to the hospital to conduct the assessment myself. I already have a good sense of your physical abilities, so I’ll test you on other things.”

Nora Ainsworth finally relaxed. ”Thank you.”

Herman Hawthorne snorted. ”If you’re going to thank someone, thank your man. He already made the arrangements in advance.”

Nora Ainsworth put down the phone. Her leg was in a cast, propped up high, and she felt absolutely miserable.

’Thank Quentin Grant?’

’If it weren’t for him, would I be in this state?’

’I should be tearing him limb from limb, not thanking him!’

That evening, the culprit finally arrived.

Nora Ainsworth feigned sleep, ignoring him.

”Stop pretending. How is this my fault? There was so much space, but you just had to go somewhere so dangerous. If you weren’t the one to fall, who would be?”

Nora Ainsworth was stung by his words, feeling even worse. ”Would I be like this if it wasn’t for you? If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have had to hide in the first place.”

Quentin Grant turned and left. As Nora Ainsworth watched the door close, she felt so wronged that tears started streaming down her face.

She opened her phone and scrolled through the latest entertainment news.

Besides the news about Quentin Grant and his former lover from the night of the banquet, there was also a story about Mrs. Lynch’s nephew, Quincy, being carried out of the women’s restroom after being unconscious for a long time.

No police report was filed, so the matter was dropped.

She glanced at a listicle an entertainment blogger had compiled titled ”Top Ten Pure Starlets Turned Sexpots,” feeling a little bored.

About ten minutes later, the door was pushed open again, and Quentin Grant walked in carrying food.

”Didn’t you leave?”

Quentin Grant sat down in a chair and took off his mask. He then took out a bowl of fish soup and some other light, nourishing dishes. ”If I didn’t leave, how could I go buy you dinner?”

Nora Ainsworth was hungry, too. She hadn’t eaten much all day.

Leaning back against the bed, she saw that he had bought very little food. The fish soup was in a small, palm-sized bowl, and there wasn’t much of anything else.

”This isn’t enough for me.”

”It’s difficult for you to use the restroom right now. Eat less.”

Nora Ainsworth’s face fell. ”But I’m hungry.”

”You’ll have to be hungry for now. You can eat more in a few days.”

Nora Ainsworth had no choice but to eat the small portion to tide her over.

Before she could finish, Quentin Grant’s phone started ringing incessantly.

He glanced at it and declined the call, but a moment later, it started ringing again.

She didn’t have to guess to know it was definitely Catherine Callahan.

Finally, Quentin Grant stood up and said to Nora Ainsworth, ”I’m heading back first. Finish up and get some sleep.”

Before Nora Ainsworth could even nod, Quentin Grant was gone.

He didn’t come back in the following days.

Chloe Marshall was the most frequent visitor. Whenever she was in Alveria, she would bring Nora Ainsworth delicious, restorative food.

By the time Herman Hawthorne came for the assessment, it was Nora Ainsworth’s fifth day in the hospital.

He stood by her hospital bed and studied her complexion. ”You’ve got some great luck. The assessment comes up, and you end up in the hospital. Everyone else has already been evaluated. You’re the only one left.”

Nora Ainsworth sat up straight. ”Boss, how about we wait until I’ve recovered and then do the full assessment?”

”No need. The other team members who passed will be coming up to supervise your assessment as well. Be prepared.”

”Okay.”

Just as he finished speaking, Jasmine Walsh, Chloe Marshall, and two other men walked in.

Jasmine Walsh’s tone was sharp. ”Nora Ainsworth, you sure have a knack for timing, don’t you?”

”Divine intervention.”

Jasmine Walsh took a position on the far side of the bed. ”We have to be here for your assessment to be valid. That way, if you pass, we’ll accept it without reservation.”

”No problem.” Nora Ainsworth appeared relaxed.

”Boss, let’s begin.”

The two men immediately set up a target three meters from Nora Ainsworth’s position.

The target was only the size of a nail head, making a perfect bullseye incredibly difficult.
