Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Chapter 68: Chapter 66: You’re Very Pleased with Yourself, Aren’t You?

Then he turned and left.

Throughout it all, Warner hadn’t made a sound.

When he returned to the swing set, Nora Ainsworth was already gone.

He went back to the room and found her cooking in the kitchen.

”I thought you’d be waiting for me in bed,” he said with a light chuckle, leaning against the kitchen doorway.

Without turning her head, Nora Ainsworth replied, ”That was the plan, but I’m starving. I need to refuel first to have enough energy, right?”

Once the meal was ready, the two of them sat across from each other.

”It’s rare for everyone to have a free evening. Let’s go play some ball tonight.”

Nora didn’t ask who ”everyone” was. She didn’t have to; she could already guess.

”I don’t know how.”

”Then it’s settled. Go change your clothes in a bit.” Quentin Grant’s word was law.

Although Nora was a bit reluctant, she went along anyway.

The car drove to a well-known entertainment complex. The ”ball” Quentin Grant had mentioned wasn’t golf, but billiards.

He parked next to a yellow Lamborghini—unmistakably Ethan Ellsworth’s car.

The two of them got out of the car, one after the other. Nora wore a mask and a hat, leaving only her eyes visible.

She kept her head down, following a short distance behind him.

However, the first floor was chaotic, and the pounding dance music made one’s ears ache.

Maybe the crowd had separated them, or perhaps he’d gotten too far ahead, but Nora suddenly realized she couldn’t see Quentin Grant anymore.

She quickened her pace, but in her hurry, she failed to notice that she had already been recognized.

A hand shot out from behind and grabbed her shoulder.

Nora’s heart leaped into her throat.

She slowly turned around and came face-to-face with Leon Lynch, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time.

His face was as captivating as ever. Women were deliberately dancing around him, but his gaze was locked tightly on her.

He forcibly pulled her to a quiet room on the second floor.

The door closed, and Nora didn’t know what to say.

”Young Master Lynch, out picking up girls again tonight?”

He pulled her down to sit. ”How else would I have been able to see you?”

Nora was a little uncomfortable. ”I’m here with a friend. It’s my first time.”

”Which friend?”

”You don’t know them,” she said evasively.

”A man or a woman?”

Nora didn’t want to answer. ”Why so many questions?”

”I’m your fiancé. I have the right to know.” He said it as if it were a matter of course, completely forgetting that the engagement had been called off.

She had no choice but to kindly remind him, ”But we already broke off the engagement.”

Leon Lynch chuckled lowly. ”Of course I know whether we broke it off or not. But I don’t acknowledge it, so anyone else’s approval is invalid. Nora, we’re going to be a happy couple. Only I am right for you, and only I am your ultimate partner. Anyone else is just an illusion, a fleeting reflection in the water!”

Nora looked at him. ”I’m in no position to be discussing marriage right now. There are still many things I need to do, and many things I need to find out.”

”We’re so young. I’ll wait for you.”

”My friend is still waiting for me. I’m going to head out.”

He stood up. ”You won’t be able to find them, will you? I’ll help you look. What’s your friend’s name?”

”I can find them,” she said with an awkward laugh. ”You should go have your fun. Don’t worry about me.”

”How could I do that? I’m your fiancé, after all—the person you can rely on in the future. If I don’t look after you, who will?” As he spoke, he ushered Nora out of the room as if he were carrying a little chick.

Seeing that he was sticking to her like glue, Nora had no choice but to say, ”Leon, how about we go play some billiards?”

Leon Lynch was skeptical. ”You know how to play?”

Nora huffed. ”I’ve seen it done, even if I haven’t done it myself.”

”I’m an expert at this. Come on, I’ll teach you.”

Nora followed behind him. She had to admit, if Leon hadn’t been leading the way, the billiards hall really would have been hard to find.

When they entered the billiards hall, Nora was stunned. ’It’s true what they say about enemies always crossing paths.’

It seemed everyone who was meant to be there, was.

’Tonight was destined to be anything but peaceful.’

Just reaching the entrance, she was already desperate to turn and flee.

Quentin Grant, Ethan Ellsworth, and Herman Hawthorne being there was within her expectations. But Jean Grant, Marlon Marshall, and Sharon Ainsworth... what was going on?

Why were they here too, out of the blue?

”Nora Ainsworth?!” Sharon Ainsworth was the first to spot her and call out her name.

She forced herself to look up. ”We were just passing by.”

Ethan Ellsworth and Herman Hawthorne leisurely watched Quentin Grant’s reaction, noticing his expression had turned somewhat cold.

Leon Lynch pointed to another empty table. ”Let’s go over there.”

As he dragged Nora along, Jean Grant walked over and looked at her. Nora was nervous about what she might ask. And just as she feared, Jean asked the question.

”Herman is over there. Why are you still mixed up with your ex-fiancé?”

The color drained from Nora’s face.

Leon Lynch didn’t look at her, stating directly, ”We haven’t broken off the engagement. As long as I don’t agree to it, what my mother says doesn’t count.”

Jean Grant was displeased. ”Nora Ainsworth, are you two-timing him?”

Leon Lynch narrowed his eyes. ”Miss Grant, what do you mean by that?”

”Exactly what it sounds like. This Nora Ainsworth is clearly Herman’s legitimate girlfriend now, yet she’s still entangled with you. Can’t you have a little self-respect?”

Nora was speechless. ’Telling a lie is like casting a net. You have to keep weaving more lies to cover it up. But now, how could she possibly explain this one away?’

’She no longer wanted to spin lies to weave this unglamorous dream.’

’But not wanting to didn’t mean she could stop. She was trapped in a situation beyond her control. How could she escape?’

”Miss Grant, actually—”

Just as she started to speak, Quentin Grant and the others walked over. Herman Hawthorne casually draped an arm over Nora’s shoulder. ”Jean, Nora and Young Master Lynch are just friends. Who says you can’t be friends after breaking off an engagement?”

Jean Grant looked a bit awkward. ”Oh, so that’s how it is. I thought—”

Sharon Ainsworth, feeling deeply resentful, said sourly, ”Nora Ainsworth, you sure are something. You just broke off one engagement and you’re already climbing up to someone new. It’s a shame your mother died so early; she can’t see how capable her daughter is.”

Nora gave a bitter smile. ”You’re not so bad yourself. Even though you failed to get married, you still act so high and mighty.”

Failing to marry Quentin Grant was Sharon’s sorest point. Mrs. Ainsworth had died at her wedding, and she had even fainted. She harbored a deep hatred, which was why she couldn’t be bothered to put on an act in front of Nora.

”You—you’re really proud of yourself now, aren’t you?” Sharon Ainsworth brazenly walked over to Quentin Grant and linked her arm with his. ”We will get married again. You’d better watch closely.”

Quentin Grant didn’t immediately shake Sharon off. Instead, he stared intently at Nora, waiting for her reaction.

Unfortunately for him, Nora simply smiled. ”Then I wish you the best of luck in making your dream come true.”

Jean Grant turned and walked toward another pool table, clearly unwilling to get involved any further.

Sharon shot her a sidelong glance. ”I really didn’t expect you to find a new man so quickly, and one so outstanding. Your mother must have done some good deeds for you in a past life.”

Nora didn’t want to deal with her anymore. She turned to Leon Lynch, who had been silent all this time. ”Didn’t you say you wanted to play?”
