Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Chapter 70: Chapter 68: Lying to You Gets Me Meat?

Even so, Nora Ainsworth still felt cold.

This was a cold that seeped deep into her bones.

The car went faster and faster.

Quentin Grant had to be the only person who could make someone like Herman Hawthorne act as his chauffeur.

The night was black as ink.

The atmosphere inside the pitch-black car was impossibly frigid.

Quentin Grant nibbled her ear, his voice a mesmerizing whisper. ”How do you think I’ll punish you?”

Before she could answer, he rolled down the window and shoved Nora Ainsworth’s head out into the open air.

Normally, sticking any part of your body out of a moving car was a recipe for disaster.

But now, the upper half of Nora Ainsworth’s body was pressed against the hard window frame. The biting wind was bone-chilling.

This was his punishment for her.

Nora Ainsworth didn’t dare make a peep. Just a few feet away, Herman Hawthorne was at the wheel.

He must have sensed what was happening, but he remained silent.

Quentin Grant held her by the legs. If he let go, she would fall from the speeding car, likely to her death.

Her arms clung desperately to the car’s outer frame, her only hope of not falling.

Seeing her too cold to speak, his gaze darkened. ”Nora Ainsworth,” he asked lightly, ”will you remember this time?”

Nora Ainsworth didn’t speak.

She was stubborn by nature. When she didn’t want to yield, she refused to say a single word.

Perhaps her silence made Quentin Grant feel like she was defying him.

”I’ll ask you one more time. Will you remember? If you don’t answer, I’m going to let go.”

Nora Ainsworth didn’t want to die, even though she didn’t want to speak.

”I’ll remember.”

With one pull of his arm, he hauled her back inside and shut the window.

The warmth of the car wasn’t enough to immediately stop her violent shivers.

She put on her down jacket without a sound.

Then, she grew drowsy.

Leaning against the window, she fell asleep.

Quentin Grant moved to the passenger seat. Herman Hawthorne, the third person who had witnessed everything, kept his eyes on the road. ”You need to be more careful next time,” he said. ”I was half-worried you were actually going to kill her.”

Quentin Grant had calmed down. ”She’s not that easy to kill. She’s resilient as a cockroach.”

Herman Hawthorne chuckled. ”I have to admit, I admire women like her. She can take it, and you can tell she’s not ordinary.”

”If I crippled her, would you still admire her?” he asked bluntly.

Herman Hawthorne laughed softly. ”Quentin, sometimes, you can show a little mercy to a woman who’s worth it.”

”Why aren’t you answering my question?” He turned his head. ”I’m asking you, if one day I abandoned her, would you still want her?”

”In that situation? If I was only casually interested, do you think I’m that hard up for women? Of course, if I actually fell in love with her—I mean head-over-heels in love—then I wouldn’t mind.”

”Love?” Quentin Grant sneered and said no more.

When the car stopped at the training camp, Nora Ainsworth was unconscious. She had a fever.

Herman Hawthorne was at a loss. ”Look what you’ve done. Now you’ve really gone and caused a problem!”

Quentin Grant reached out to check her temperature. Then, without a word, he put on a black, hooded coat, carried her out of the car, and took her directly into Herman Hawthorne’s bedroom.

A doctor immediately put her on an IV drip to bring down the fever.

Jasmine Walsh stepped out of her dorm just in time to see a shadowy figure carry someone into the Boss’s bedroom. A moment later, she saw the Boss himself follow them inside and shut the door.

She immediately grew suspicious, hurried back to the dorm, and quietly told Shea Rhodes what she had seen.

Unable to contain their curiosity, the two of them quietly went downstairs and crept to Herman Hawthorne’s door.

But the soundproofing was too good; they couldn’t hear a thing.

Two hours later, the light inside was still on. Unable to wait any longer, they went back to their dorm.

After two bags of IV fluid, the fever broke.

Only then did Quentin Grant leave.

Herman Hawthorne spent the night sleeping uncomfortably on the other side of the room.

When Nora Ainsworth woke up, she found herself in an unfamiliar room. Then she looked again and saw Herman Hawthorne sleeping nearby. Her brain practically short-circuited.

The pain between her legs had eased.

Memories of what happened flooded her mind. Her face paled. Just as she started to get out of bed, Herman Hawthorne’s chuckle came from behind her. ”Awake?”

Startled, Nora Ainsworth forced a twitch of her lips. ”Why was I sleeping here last night?”

Herman Hawthorne replied matter-of-factly, ”What do you think? You insisted on sleeping with me, wouldn’t leave no matter how much I tried to shoo you away. Pissed Quentin off so bad he was practically seeing red.”

Nora Ainsworth froze. ’This is insane?!’ she thought.

’Was it really that bad?’

’But why can’t I remember any of it?’

Just then, an unwitting smile flickered across Herman Hawthorne’s face, and it was like Nora Ainsworth had been jolted from a dream.

”Liar!”

Herman Hawthorne’s smile widened. ”What do I get for lying to you?”

Nora Ainsworth thought about last night, and her face flushed. ”Boss, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back now.”

Herman Hawthorne snorted. ”Giving up so easily? You had a fever last night. You were on a drip. Quentin brought you here. You should leave through the back. Too many people out front, it’ll start rumors. I don’t mind, but I’m worried you won’t be able to take it. Another punishment like that and you might not survive.”

Nora Ainsworth wished she could find a hole to crawl into.

’She cursed Quentin Grant a thousand times in her head. ’You damned, coercive, psychotic, evil bastard! You’d better not fall in love with me!’’

Of course, Nora Ainsworth only dared to think these things. She wouldn’t dream of saying them aloud.

She returned to the dorm through the back door. As she reached the entrance, she heard Jasmine Walsh say, ”Last night, I saw someone carrying a person into the Boss’s bedroom. I wonder if they’ve come out yet?”

”We have assembly soon, stop staring,” Shea Rhodes said.

”It had better not be some vixen. Otherwise, I’ll make her disappear from the face of the earth!”

Nora Ainsworth calmly walked in.

Chloe Marshall saw her. ”Nora, you’re back?”

”Yeah, I’m back.”

”Off meeting a man, were you?” Jasmine Walsh snorted sarcastically.

Nora Ainsworth retorted, ”What’s it to you? If you’ve got what it takes, go meet one yourself.”

”I’m not like you, using the back door. Just watch, I’ll report you to the Boss today,” Jasmine Walsh said through clenched teeth.

Chloe Marshall didn’t speak, and Nora Ainsworth didn’t either. They both knew what was going on.

When it was time for assembly, Jasmine Walsh did indeed report her.

”Boss, the training camp has a rule that members can’t leave the grounds without permission. But Nora Ainsworth left yesterday and only came back this morning. How should she be punished?”

Herman Hawthorne raised an eyebrow. ”Who said she left without permission? I approved it. It’s none of your business. In this camp, she’s the only one with this privilege, and no one has the right to interfere.”

Jasmine Walsh was in disbelief. ”But, Boss, didn’t you say the camp had to be fair?”
