Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 49: Chapter 49: The Poor Child Killed by Her Uncle 5

The land from Yuan Chun’s family was leased to the elder uncle’s family for cultivation. All the grain produced, apart from what’s handed over, leaves a hundred pounds for the elder uncle’s labor fee; the rest is given to Yuan Chun.

This arrangement was the result of discussions among several elders.

Initially, both the second granduncle and the elder uncle refused the grain. They were just exerting some effort to help Yuan Chun with the farming, and it felt inappropriate to take advantage of a little girl by taking a hundred pounds of her grain.

However, Yuan Chun insisted on giving it, so the elder uncle agreed.

On the village head’s advice, the two even signed an agreement.

The second uncle and aunt’s family came gleefully and were embarrassedly sent away, which led them not only to hate Yuan Chun but also the elder uncle’s family.

”Yuan Chun, let’s see how a useless girl like you is going to live well,” Ge Cuilan spat at her maliciously.

Yuan Chun retorted bluntly, ”Second Aunt, you’re supposed to be my dear aunt, right? You came to take advantage of my family, and when you failed, you cursed me. Are you really my dear aunt, or are you my enemy? Aren’t you afraid my parents will come to visit you in the middle of the night for a good talk?”

Ge Cuilan shivered all over, glanced around in panic, then ran away as if chased by a ghost.

Bang...

Ah...

Ge Cuilan hadn’t run far before her left foot tripped over her right foot, and she fell.

Face down.

The skin on her face was scraped.

Blood was gushing.

It looked pretty scary.

Yuan Chun’s younger cousin Liu Yuzhu, a year younger than her, saw her mother’s face covered in blood and, terrified, dropped the little bundle in her hand, lay on top of Ge Cuilan, and cried as if she had lost her mother.

The not-so-distant elder uncle, village head, and others heard the screams, turned their heads, and displayed astonished expressions.

The village head hastily said, ”Tie Zhu, quickly help your wife up and take her to Old Liu’s place for a look.”

Liu Tiezhu and his eldest son, Liu Hongjun, hurriedly supported Ge Cuilan and rushed to the village barefoot doctor Old Liu’s house.

Yuan Chun silently closed the courtyard door and said to 007, ”The Unlucky Talisman seems quite effective, making someone trip on flat ground.”

”Of course, anything from the system is top quality,” 007 said proudly.

Yuan Chun returned to her room to find her wardrobe doors wide open, with a few of her clothes that had gotten too small lying on the floor. The box was also open, with its contents scattered all over the bed and the ground, a complete mess.

Her grandpa and dad’s room had also been rummaged through.

Grandpa’s box had been moved, the earthen bricks trampled into three pieces, leaving only a dark little hole in the corner of the wall.

This hiding place for money was known to Liu Tiezhu; when grandma was alive, she favored her youngest son and had taken money from here in front of him.

Fortunately, grandpa was cautious in his affairs. He habitually locked his room door and carried the key with him, never giving Liu Tiezhu an opportunity to steal money.

Otherwise, the money would have been long gone.

Yuan Chun packed all the tattered clothes on the ground into a burlap sack, then threw them into the utility room, before taking out the previously collected items and putting them back in their original places.

She used mud to block the small hole.

The money was safest in the storage space.

No worry of it being stolen.

For the next few days, Yuan Chun stayed at home and didn’t go out.

The first and second cousins from the elder uncle’s family would take turns helping her carry water.

The sisters-in-law from both sides, not at ease with her sleeping alone at night, would take turns staying with her, bringing food, and teaching her household chores.

”Yesterday afternoon, your second uncle went to the field wanting to pick some tender corn to eat. As soon as he reached the field’s edge, he fell over,” the sister-in-law said, after dinner when she’d come to chat with Yuan Chun, often talking about Liu Tiezhu and his wife.

”Your second aunt even made a trip back to her maiden home and brought back a shaman. People in the village are talking, saying they’re harboring sinister thoughts, trying to take over your family’s property and were punished by your grandpa. Otherwise, how could they fall three times in one day without missing a single day? Yuan Chun, your grandpa is protecting you, you know.”

Yuan Chun grinned, ”Sister-in-law, I know. My grandpa, my parents, they’re all protecting me.”

The sister-in-law reached out and ruffled her hair, ”Good child.”
