Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 48: Chapter 48: The Pitiful Child Killed by Her Uncle (Part 4)

Liu Tiezhu grumbled, ”You kid, how can you be like a dog biting Lü Dongbin, not recognizing a good person? We moved in to take good care of you. I’m your second uncle; both your parents are gone. If I don’t take care of you, how will you survive?”

It sounded like without Liu Tiezhu, she would starve to death.

Yuan Chun put on a defiant look and said, ”I don’t need my second uncle and aunt to take care of me. I can live well on my own. I will learn to cook, wash clothes, and grow vegetables. Third Master, Fifth Master, Second Grandpa, Village Head Grandpa, you all know what kind of people my second uncle and aunt are. Do you think they can really take good care of me?”

”They definitely want to occupy my home and then treat me like a servant to serve their whole family. I refuse to be their servant. I have a house, land, and my father’s pension. I can live well without needing my second uncle and aunt’s care.”

Perhaps it struck a chord, and Second Uncle jumped up cursing, ”You damned girl, I’m kindly offering to take you in, and you dare refuse? Watch me teach you a lesson.”

Saying this, he was about to rush over to hit Yuan Chun.

With so many people present, they couldn’t just watch Yuan Chun get hit.

Third Master grabbed his hand angrily, ”In front of us, you still want to hit Yuan Chun. If we let you move in, Yuan Chun could be beaten to death by you.”

Ge Cuilan had a dark face and said, ”Third Master, my husband was just momentarily angry, not really intending to hit Yuan Chun. We are the most doting parents; my husband has never laid a hand on our three children. He wouldn’t bear to hit Yuan Chun. His eldest brother is dead, leaving just this bloodline in the world, so for his eldest brother’s sake, my husband wouldn’t hit Yuan Chun.”

”Yes, yes, I just wanted to scare Yuan Chun, not really hit her. Big Cousin, let go; you’re hurting me.”

Believing this couple would be foolish.

Third Master let go of him and said to the Third and Fifth Masters, ”Third Grandpa, Fifth Grandpa, Dad, Village Head, I think it’s better if Yuan Chun stays at my place for now. When she is older and can live on her own, she can come back. I will help her farm her land, sell the harvested grain, convert it to money, and save it for her. I won’t take a penny.”

”This is better. If she stays with you, we can be at ease.”

The good reputation of Third Master and his wife was well-known in the village. The few elders raised both hands in agreement.

Yet Yuan Chun was unwilling.

No matter how good Third Master and his wife were, she didn’t want to live under someone else’s roof.

”Third Master, thank you for your kindness, but I want to live in my own home. I don’t want to move out. I’m too young to farm my land, so I can rent it to your family. You just need to give me enough food for a year and enough firewood for a year.”

This year, 1956, the people’s commune hadn’t been established yet. The land was still under individual ownership, so produce grown, except for what was handed over, was personal. However, by 1958, orders would come down, and all personal land would be collectivized.

People depended on labor to earn work points and distribute grain.

There were also communal meals and large-scale steel production.

Next year, a large-scale coupon system would be implemented, so it seemed she must stockpile more cotton cloth, materials, firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and sugar before then, to avoid the shortage of coupons for buying things in the next thirty years.

More pots and farming tools also needed to be bought.

Since Yuan Chun refused to stay at Third Master’s house and didn’t want her second uncle and aunt’s family to move in, the village head and several Liu family elders had no choice but to let her live on her own at home.
