Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: The Tragic Woman 20

”Comrade Feng Yuanchun, you... how could you do this?” He Hongyu immediately burst into tears, choking, ”I genuinely want to be friends with you. I just arrived and don’t know anyone in the village, but I heard from other educated youth that you’re the most diligent and capable woman here. I wanted you to teach me how to do farm work.”

”Yuan Chun, the village head has already said it. We villagers have a responsibility to teach the educated youths in the countryside how to do farm work. Otherwise, if they can’t earn work points and starve, our village would also be at fault.”

”That’s right, Yuan Chun, teaching someone to work isn’t tiring. Just show her a few things when you’re out in the fields tomorrow.”

”This He Zhqing is a good person. After coming to the countryside, she’s willing to have someone teach her farm work. Unlike the other female educated youths who, once in the fields, start whining and crying, demanding to go home and even calling us rural people ’mud people,’ saying we aren’t even worthy of talking to them.”

”Exactly, every time they see me, they look at me with such disdain, as if we’re just lumps from a cesspit.”

”Hmph, now, they’ve also become ’mud people,’ the very ones they looked down upon.”

”That’s different. They’re cultured people, educated youths. How can they be like us true ’mud people’?”

”Yuan Chun is also a cultured person, an educated youth.” The woman speaking suddenly exclaimed towards Yuan Chun, ”Yuan Chun, with this grain and money, have your grandma enroll you in a school to get a high school diploma, so you can bring pride to our village.”

Yuan Chun grinned, saying, ”Aunt Pan, my grandma said after the New Year, she’ll let my brother and me go to study in the senior year of high school. Once we get the diploma, if the school recruits teachers, my brother and I can also join.”

”Oh my, Yuan Chun, if you and your brother are going to the town for school, that must cost a lot of money, right? Where does your family get the money?”

”My mom wrote a letter to borrow from my grandpa.”

After the Feng family had money, they wanted their children to study. After family discussions, the financial burden was pushed onto Liu Qingqiu’s maternal family because they were far away and city people.

In the eyes of rural people, city people are wealthy.

”It’s still Yuan Chun’s mom who’s fortunate—having a maternal family in the city to support them. Unlike us, it’d be a blessing if our relatives didn’t come to leech off us.”

A middle-aged woman spoke bitterly, her eyes filled with envy and jealousy.

Yuan Chun couldn’t be bothered with a bunch of old women, so she squeezed to the front to see the commotion.

He Hongyu lowered her harsh gaze, quietly retreated to the back, and then quickly left the square.

She just arrived, had no work points, and therefore wasn’t entitled to a share of the grain. She wasn’t about to stay in the square watching these bumpkins gossip.

A few minutes later, she arrived at the Chen Family’s house and knocked on the door a few times, ”Chen Si, are you home?”

The Chen family members went to the square to collect grain, except Chen Shengjun, who was still home doing laundry, but there were only his clothes in the basin.

Chen Shengjun was smart. He knew that girls from better-off families liked clean men, so every time he went out, he made sure to dress neatly, with not a speck of dirt under his fingernails.

Because of this, Feng Yuanchun had taken a liking to him.

She felt he was different from the three Chen Shengjin brothers. He was diligent, tidy, good-looking, and charming with words.

But Granny Chen and Li Woniu disliked how often he changed clothes and refused to wash them for him, so he washed his clothes in secret at home, afraid of being laughed at if others saw.

”Chen, are you home?”

Chen Shengjun had just finished washing a piece of clothing when he heard a voice in the yard.
