Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

”So we’ve postponed the rotation and handed the Star System blockade over to the Fifth Legion. They’ve at least been to the front; they’re still capable enough.”

After listening to the president’s explanation, Chen Ming had a rough understanding of this Legion in charge of locking down the Star Realm.

Out of curiosity, Chen Ming asked another question: ”When was the last rotation?”

”Five years ago. We rotate once every five years.”

”This five-year shift cycle is a bit special, because it happens to line up with the rhythm of technological iterations.”

”I heard you’ve cooked up a few technologies yourself, right? Stuff you develop usually gets taken by the rotating Legion to wherever they’re facing off against the Mechanical Race, to run small-scale, low-intensity war tests.”

”And that Antimatter Technology everyone in the Empire has been talking about recently was originally supposed to go to the front with the Fifth Legion as well. Now it looks like that’ll have to be delayed for a while.”

”I’m getting off track.”

The president coughed lightly, pulling the topic—dragged away by Chen Ming—back on course: ”The border of the Cai Mo Star Realm is now fully under the surveillance of the Fifth Legion.”

”But there are still some gaps here and there. Some Frigates, or even smaller ships, could still slip through the blockade.”

”So I’m hoping you can lend a hand—use your Spiritual Energy to assist with our current work. Once you detect any trace of An Wuping, move in and try to capture him.”

”We absolutely cannot let him come into contact with those Zuo Jing in the Cai Mo Star Realm who may already have experienced dimensional infection.”

After hearing this, Chen Ming said in a doubtful tone, ”I understand the logic, and I can handle it. But with a Star Realm this big, how am I supposed to find that An Wuping? It’s like fishing a needle out of the ocean.”

”You’re not looking for An Wuping. You’re looking for the source where Zuo Jing triggered the dimensional infection.”

”The Empire has been providing support all this time, but relying only on ordinary people with instruments to investigate is just too slow.”

”The Empire has deployed some Psychics too, but they don’t have any experience with dimensional infection. They can’t quickly confirm whether a place has undergone dimensional infection, and they’re prone to accidents. The efficiency is low.”

”You and I have both experienced dimensional infection, so neither of us can go in person to handle it.”

”I don’t have your ability to remotely control ships, and I can’t remotely sense Spiritual Energy Fluctuation the way you can.”

”So you’re the only one who can really help on this front.”

”I’ve got a lot of leads gathered on my desk right now; what we’re missing is professionals to follow up on them.”

”I need you to help investigate those leads that have a high probability of panning out.”

The president had actually already told Chen Ming earlier that he hoped Chen Ming would get involved in handling the dimensional infection incidents.

Chen Ming had already made it clear back then that he was willing, but the president had been dealing with things on his own, and aside from keeping him updated, hadn’t asked him to do anything.

Now that the president was bringing it up again of his own accord, it seemed the situation over in the Cai Mo Star Realm was really not looking good.

There was no way Chen Ming would refuse.

With Zuo Jing, the Mechanical Race, Dusk, and even dimensional infection all eyeing things from multiple directions, the Empire and all ordinary people were sharing a single fate—prosper together, suffer together. Chen Ming was no exception.

Chen Ming agreed without hesitation: ”No problem. I’ll send a Dusk core over to handle it directly when the time comes. But the supplies, and the permit for a Dusk core to operate within the Empire—those two things...”

”We’ll definitely get those sorted for you.”

”When you find the source, don’t go in directly. Just let me know. Help block any outsiders from that Star System.”

”Above all, don’t let An Wuping enter that Star System. Right now, he’s actually the one we need to worry about the most.”

Chen Ming confirmed, ”So it’s just investigation and blocking people?”

”Right. Since Zuo Jing clearly already has some degree of Manufacturing capability for dimensional infection, it’s best not to push them too hard. Even if we discover them, we have to move step by step. We absolutely can’t rush it.”

”Alright, I understand.”
