**

At the break of dawn, just before the sky fully brightened—

In the vast expanse of desert, a streak of black light flashed swiftly through the air.

It zipped past the Mei Snake Fortress in a blink, then continued for over a hundred li before finally coming to a stop atop a sand dune.

”Brother Wei, why did we stop? We’re still in the territory of the Snake-People Clan, and we’re even kind of close to the main Mei Snake Tribe,” Xiao Yan landed, his feet sinking slightly into the sand. Letting out a long breath, he asked urgently.

Xiao Yan was in a rush. He wanted to leave the Snake-People Clan’s territory as soon as possible, get far away, and then look for a place to refine and absorb the Heavenly Flame.

Wei Yang turned his head and glanced back in the direction they came from. ”Someone’s been tailing us.”

”A Snake-People Clan elder followed us?” Xiao Yan instantly tensed up.

”Doesn’t seem like it,” Yao Lao’s voice sounded in his mind. ”It’s a different aura. Very concealed. Strange.”

”You’ve followed us all this way, yet don’t plan on showing yourself?” Wei Yang spoke calmly, but his voice echoed across a hundred-meter radius.

Xiao Yan immediately entered full alert mode, ready to let Yao Lao possess him at any moment.

Silence.

Wei Yang frowned. ”Hiding like a coward!”

Whoosh!

At that moment—

A flash of seven-colored light suddenly burst from a shadow in the darkness, shooting out at such a high speed it seemed to tear straight through space itself. The sheer speed made it impossible to react in time.

The dazzling light shot straight toward the two of them.

Wei Yang’s pupils reflected the blurred outline of the seven-colored flash. Alarmed, he raised his hand instinctively to strike.

But in the very next instant, his senses fully captured the creature’s shape—and his movement froze. ”It’s her!”

The seven-colored light arrived before Wei Yang in a blink. Then, as if it sensed some form of danger, it swerved abruptly and shot toward Xiao Yan instead.

Xiao Yan instinctively tried to dodge, but the speed of that seven-colored shadow was far too terrifying. He couldn’t react in time.

His Dou Qi had only just begun to activate, but the thing was already right in front of him.

”Damn it, it’s too late!” Xiao Yan could only stare helplessly, fear gripping his heart.

”Don’t panic, it doesn’t have killing intent!” Wei Yang transmitted swiftly.

Boom!

Suddenly, a pure white flame erupted from Xiao Yan’s body, enveloping him entirely.

The strange flame distorted the surrounding air with its heat.

Though the flame looked scorching, it gave off a chilling cold instead—an eerie contradiction.

Screee!

As if sensing the terrifying power of the pale-white flame, the seven-colored shadow halted instantly in front of Xiao Yan, floating in mid-air. That switch from extreme speed to complete stillness was so natural, so seamless, it looked effortless.

With the creature finally still, its form was revealed in full view.

And the moment they got a good look at it—both of them were stunned.

What appeared before them... was a slender, tiny snake, barely two centimeters thick. Its body was completely covered in delicate seven-colored scales, and a pair of light-purple snake eyes gave off an eerie, otherworldly gleam.

At the same time, a pleasant, refreshing fragrance wafted from its body, subtle yet noticeable.

Despite its small, slender form, the creature emitted an oddly regal and elegant aura.

It didn’t look fierce in the slightest. On the contrary, it was stunningly beautiful—so beautiful that many women might forget their fear or disgust toward snakes entirely.

The little seven-colored snake blinked its light-purple eyes innocently, looking completely harmless. But Wei Yang and Xiao Yan could faintly sense the terrifying power hidden within that tiny body.

”This is...!” Xiao Yan’s eyes widened.

”It’s the Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python,” Wei Yang exhaled deeply and spoke.

”Mhm, I didn’t expect it to actually be an ancient beast—Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python!”

Yao Lao’s voice slowly sounded, murmuring, ”Its body bears seven colors, its eyes faintly violet, its scent fragrant, and its power capable of shaking the heavens.”

”Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python?” Xiao Yan’s tongue clicked in surprise. It was another creature he’d never heard of before, but just from the name alone, he could tell it was immensely powerful.

The little snake floated in front of them. Its light-purple eyes held no killing intent or savagery. Instead, they were incredibly pure and clear. Even knowing how terrifying the creature was, it was hard to feel any resistance toward it.

”That clarity in its eyes... this isn’t Queen Medusa—it’s another soul in control,” Wei Yang thought to himself.

...

The seven-colored little snake flicked its tiny tail slightly, its disproportionately large light-purple eyes staring at the two of them. It looked at Wei Yang, then at Xiao Yan, tilting its small head as if in thought—it looked... adorable.

Then, it slightly raised its head, as if sniffing something in the air. Finally, its gaze settled on Xiao Yan.

It hesitantly floated closer, inch by inch. But the moment it felt the chilling presence of the pale-white flame on Xiao Yan’s body, it quickly recoiled, curling up slightly. Its light-purple eyes gazed at Xiao Yan with what looked like a pitiful expression.

”Brother Wei, Master... what is it trying to do?” Xiao Yan’s body stiffened. He didn’t dare to move as he stared at the seemingly harmless seven-colored snake in front of him. Swallowing nervously, he asked.

”As expected... the little snake chose Xiao Yan in the end,” Wei Yang thought silently.

He glanced at Xiao Yan and explained, ”If I’m not mistaken, this is Medusa.”

”What?!” Xiao Yan was dumbfounded.

This... this seven-colored little snake before him... was Medusa, the one who was already presumed dead?

”Yes,” Yao Lao also let out a long sigh, a trace of awe in his voice. ”Rebirth through destruction—using the power of a Heavenly Flame and lightning... It turns out that Medusa’s so-called evolution was actually a soul transformation. She shed her old physical form and used soul power to construct a brand-new body. It’s truly unbelievable...”

”But... it doesn’t look anything like Medusa,” Xiao Yan stared at the seven-colored snake and muttered.

”Medusa’s companion spirit was the enormous purple serpent you encountered before—an evolved Rank 6 magic beast: the Quiet Purple Flame Serpent.”

”It’s said that this species carries a trace of ancient beast bloodline in its veins. If the opportunity is right, a Quiet Purple Flame Serpent can awaken that faint bloodline and evolve into its ancient ancestor.”

”Of course, the chances of that happening are incredibly slim—so slim they’re practically nonexistent.”

Yao Lao explained softly, ”That ancient beast... one whose strength rivals even a Dou Sheng... is known as the Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python.”

”That little snake in front of us... is comparable to a Dou Sheng?!” Xiao Yan’s jaw dropped. He nearly fainted from the shock.

Dou Sheng...

”It’s still a juvenile, in its growth phase—currently Rank 7,” Wei Yang added.

”A juvenile in its growth phase... Rank 7... Dou Zong...” Xiao Yan’s eye twitched, internally crying. His worldview was completely shattered.

A bloodline this powerful... was just unfair. A young beast at the Rank 7? What kind of joke was that?!

”If nothing unexpected happens, then this little seven-colored snake before us... is the legendary Seven-Colored Heaven Swallowing Python—and also Medusa’s new body,” Yao Lao sighed.
