Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 133: Chapter 129: The Undercurrent Begins, Overly Suspicious

Jin Ziyu was stunned again. Ren Yuanyang continued, ”Remember this: here at our base, as long as it’s something we can grow, we’ll never run out of it! As long as you listen and work hard, you can eat as much as you want. But you can’t be wasteful.”

Ren Yuanyang hadn’t even finished speaking when Jin Ziyu, hearing she could eat as much as she wanted, immediately rushed over to a fruit platter. She picked out the biggest peach, rinsed it under a nearby faucet, and started stuffing it into her mouth!

The corner of Ren Yuanyang’s mouth twitched. He felt like his words had gone in one ear and out the other.

”Why are we just going in circles?” Jin Ziyu asked, gnawing furiously on the peach, as she watched Qin Haonan drive the speedboat in loops.

”Didn’t I already tell you? We’re here to see if any supplies have churned up,” Qin Haonan retorted irritably, rolling his eyes.

”I know, but isn’t the upwelling ten meters below the surface? We could go in a hundred circles up here and still not know what’s going on underwater!” Jin Ziyu said, having a rare moment of clarity.

”The Boss arranged for bitter grass to be underwater. If any supplies churn up, the Boss can sense it!” Lu Jiamei explained with a smile.

Jin Ziyu grew even more curious. ”Boss, you can feel what’s happening underwater just by standing here?”

”To be precise, I use the evolved bitter grass to determine if anything has gotten tangled in it,” Ren Yuanyang replied, pointing to the bitter grass next to him. ”You should be able to sense things at a distance through metal, right?”

Jin Ziyu immediately shook her head. ”I don’t have that kind of ability. I can only sense things within the range of my Mental Energy, which is only about three meters right now.”

Ren Yuanyang was slightly taken aback. He had always thought all Evolvers had this kind of ability, but it seemed that wasn’t the case.

Lu Jiamei was a little surprised. ”Boss, your ability is stronger than a typical Evolver’s!”

Ren Yuanyang just smiled and shook his head. Lu Jiamei assumed he was just being modest, but Ren Yuanyang knew it was all thanks to the system.

The previous night, Lu Jiamei and Qin Haonan had to pull the bitter grass stolons out of the water to check them. Now that Ren Yuanyang was here, it was much more convenient.

Using the bitter grass kept on the speedboat, Ren Yuanyang could sense in real time if any supplies were churning up from below.

Just when they thought they would be returning empty-handed again, a system notification suddenly appeared.

[BEEP. BITTER GRASS HAS ENTANGLED AN OBJECT...]

’This object definitely isn’t a fish. The system notification is different for marine life!’

”Stop for a second!” Ren Yuanyang suddenly called out.

Qin Haonan immediately stopped the speedboat. At the same time, the system notifications began to multiply, all of them reporting that the bitter grass had entangled objects.

”It’s here!” Ren Yuanyang said, overjoyed. ”Get all the bitter grass into the water, now!”

”Yes, sir!” Lu Jiamei responded immediately. She then gave Jin Ziyu, who was still eating her peach, a shove. ”Come help!”

Jin Ziyu immediately stuffed the entire remaining half of the peach into her mouth, nodded, and followed Lu Jiamei to the deck.

There was a lot of bitter grass on the deck. All they had to do was throw it directly into the water.

Ren Yuanyang hesitated for a moment, then decided to send a message to Wang Jun.

’This counts as returning the favor.’

After all, it was Wang Jun who had told them about the undercurrent.

”Captain Wang, the undercurrent should be starting. Get ready to salvage supplies!”

Seeing the message from Ren Yuanyang, Wang Jun was slightly taken aback. He immediately gave an order: ”The undercurrent may have started. Order the salvage teams to begin recovery attempts at once!”

Hearing this, his secretary at his side was stunned. ”Captain, is this information accurate?”

The secretary didn’t relay the order immediately. She was worried that salvaging now would be a huge waste of manpower and resources. If they came up with nothing, it would be a major loss.

”It should be accurate. Just execute the order for now,” Wang Jun replied in a low voice.

”Yes, sir!” The secretary turned and left.

Wang Jun first sent a word of thanks to Ren Yuanyang, then informed the other two captains in their group chat.

”Are you sure? It doesn’t look like we’ve detected any ultrasound waves yet,” Ji Yizhi said, sounding doubtful.

Wang Jun replied gravely, ”This is a message from Peach Blossom Base. It should be correct. Besides, the ultrasound readings themselves are delayed, and our current measuring equipment isn’t very precise. We should at least give it a try, no matter what.”

”Alright, I’ve already issued the salvage order on my end,” Long Zhan said without much hesitation, issuing the order as well.

Ji Yizhi was still frowning. ”Our instruments can’t detect it? Does Peach Blossom Base have more advanced equipment?”

It was common knowledge that all precision instruments had been damaged by the previous geomagnetic storm. Peach Blossom Base couldn’t be an exception.

”Maybe they have other methods of detection,” Wang Jun speculated.

”I suggest we be more cautious. We shouldn’t waste our manpower and resources just because of his word,” Ji Yizhi said, shaking his head. He clearly disagreed with starting the salvage operation now.

”Fine, you can wait then. We’ll soon be able to verify whether Peach Blossom Base’s intel is correct anyway,” Wang Jun didn’t press the issue, as he couldn’t be one hundred percent certain they were right either.

On the Jianfu Aircraft Carrier, the salvage team was stunned when they received Wang Jun’s order.

The salvage team was in communication with the lab, and they knew no ultrasound waves had been detected yet.

Even if they did detect ultrasound, they would still need to send divers down to confirm.

Only after confirmation would their salvage team mobilize.

The salvage equipment was a gas-guzzler. Fuel was a finite resource now; every drop counted. They absolutely couldn’t afford to waste it.

The salvage team leader frowned in thought for a moment before contacting Wang Jun. ”Captain, the lab doesn’t seem to have detected any ultrasound waves. Should we send someone down to confirm first?”

Hearing that even his own salvage team was questioning the intelligence, Wang Jun finally wavered. ”Alright. Arrange for someone to go down and confirm immediately!”

”Yes, sir!”

The soldier assigned to the confirmation dive put on his wetsuit and oxygen tank, then immediately jumped into the water and began to descend.

Just then, Long Zhan sent a voice message directly to the captains’ group chat: ”Stop hesitating! Our salvage teams have already recovered a good amount of supplies. The undercurrent has definitely started!”

Hearing this, Wang Jun regretted his last-minute hesitation. Although it had only been a delay of less than twenty minutes, they had surely missed out on a lot of supplies.

Wang Jun immediately called the salvage team. ”Start salvaging now! The Liaoyuan has already recovered a large amount of supplies!”

The salvage captain was stunned for a second, then immediately replied, ”Yes, sir! We’ll start right away!”

Meanwhile, Ji Yizhi, seeing the message in the group, actually asked for confirmation again: ”Old Long, are you telling the truth?”

”Captain Ji, you’re just too suspicious. If you don’t make a move soon, you’re going to miss out on a lot of supplies!” Long Zhan replied, shaking his head helplessly.

Meanwhile, Wang Jun’s salvage team had also reported good news. The diver had confirmed it as well: the undercurrent had indeed begun.

”Captain Ji, don’t hesitate. Our salvage team here has started getting results, and we sent a diver down to confirm. The undercurrent has definitely started!” Wang Jun sent over a picture from the diver confirming the undercurrent.

Only then did Ji Yizhi hastily pass down the order.

’How did Peach Blossom Base confirm the undercurrent was starting?’ Ji Yizhi still couldn’t figure it out.

”Maybe they have people stationed underwater watching for it,” Long Zhan replied with a laugh.

”That’s impossible! The water conditions are complex, and the creatures in the water are a huge threat. It’s too dangerous to stay underwater for that long!” Ji Yizhi shook his head.

”What if it’s a Water-Type Superpower User with a Fish Repeller?” Wang Jun countered.

That gave Ji Yizhi pause. His brow furrowed. ”That would still be quite dangerous, wouldn’t it?”

”Let’s not waste time with wild guesses. The fact that Peach Blossom Base can accurately pinpoint the start of the undercurrent proves they’re not simple. We should just focus on maintaining our good relationship with them,” Long Zhan said casually, not giving it much more thought.

Wang Jun nodded in agreement. Only Ji Yizhi remained with a furrowed brow, lost in thought.

”Do you think we should tell Peach Blossom Base about the problems we’re having with the Evolution Potion?” Wang Jun asked suddenly. ”See if they have any good solutions.”

The accuracy with which Peach Blossom Base had identified the start of the undercurrent this time had made Wang Jun see them in a new light.

Their research on the Evolution Potion had stalled, which was a headache for all three of them.

Hearing Wang Jun’s suggestion, both Ji Yizhi and Long Zhan were taken aback.

”I think we can! After all, we got the research data from Peach Blossom Base in the first place,” Long Zhan said with a shrug, indicating he was fine with it.

Ji Yizhi’s brow creased, but he didn’t object immediately. Instead, he asked, ”Are you sure this will be useful?”

”We won’t know if it’s useful until we try. The fact that Peach Blossom Base was willing to give us the data already shows their attitude and stance. I believe that even if it doesn’t help, they won’t leak the information. The worst that can happen is things stay as they are,” Long Zhan replied. ”Since that’s the case, why not give it a shot?”

Although Ji Yizhi was reluctant, he finally nodded.

He knew Long Zhan was right. If they tried and actually succeeded, the Aircraft Carrier Bases would finally be able to take off.

”Since we all agree, I’ll contact the lab right now, have them summarize the recent problems we’ve encountered, and send it to Peach Blossom Base,” Wang Jun said, seeking final confirmation.

Ji Yizhi and Long Zhan nodded again in agreement.

After the chat ended, Wang Jun immediately got up and headed for the lab. He wanted to deliver this order in person.

Meanwhile, Ren Yuanyang’s group was also hauling in a massive amount of supplies. Waterlogged clothes, tableware, furniture, cars—all sorts of miscellaneous items were churning to the surface.

This naturally included some well-sealed food items, seasonings, and the like.

Even though Ren Yuanyang had propagated a lot of bitter grass recently, his supply was still stretched thin.

Not knowing how long the undercurrent would last, Ren Yuanyang and his team had to hurry.

”Haonan, make a trip back first!” Ren Yuanyang ordered in a low voice.

”Yes, sir!” Qin Haonan immediately started the speedboat, slowly accelerating toward the Banyan Forest.
