Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 122: Chapter 121: A Bout of Bad Luck, the Newcomers are Shocked

”Damn it, you couldn’t keep up with a yacht that big?” the captain of the Dawn Cruise asked, his face incredibly grim.

”Captain, before they ran out of fuel, they approached the Seventh-level Wind Sea Region. Our speedboats can’t operate there at all,” the pursuit team captain said with a helpless look.

The Dawn Cruise was just a tourist liner, and the speedboats accompanying the Dawn had been hastily gathered from tourist docks. Their wind resistance ratings weren’t very high, so they could only operate in seas with winds below level six.

As a result, after Jin Ziyu’s yacht entered the Seventh-level Wind Sea Region, they didn’t dare to follow.

The captain snorted. ”Don’t tell me you couldn’t catch them before they entered the Seventh-level Wind Sea Region?”

The pursuit team’s speedboats were definitely faster than that yacht!

The team captain looked troubled. ”We did catch up, but we couldn’t get close. That broad’s Gold-Type Superpower is too strong!”

”Damn it, aren’t you all usually so brave when you board that yacht? Why so spineless this time?” the captain swore.

The team captain lowered his head, not daring to answer, but he muttered to himself, ’Usually, we go there for fun. This time, we were risking our lives. How is that the same?’

”Since you were sure you couldn’t stop the yacht, why didn’t you try to destroy it?” the captain continued to press.

If he couldn’t have it, he’d destroy it.

”We did try to attack, but our weapons dealt limited damage to the yacht. On top of that, she’s a Gold-Type Evolver. The bullets we aimed at critical components were all noticeably slowed down!” the team captain explained.

The captain exhaled slowly, closing his eyes to compose himself before issuing his order. ”Search the area around the Seventh-level Wind Sea Region. They’re out of diesel, so they’re just drifting. Find them, bring them all back to me, and I’ll make them wish they were dead!”

Although the pursuit team captain was extremely reluctant to receive the order, he still accepted it.

”Yes, sir!” the team captain replied, bowing.

After ending the call, the captain was still seething.

A few days ago, one of his reconnaissance teams had been wiped out by Peach Blossom Base. And although they’d acquired what they thought were aggressive Evolutionary Plants, after several days of cultivation, the botanical experts had found no signs of evolution in the two species.

The Dawn Cruise didn’t have much in the way of experimental equipment, so they could only make deductions based on the plants’ external appearances.

Upon reaching this conclusion, the botanical experts didn’t dare delay and immediately reported their findings.

When the captain heard from the experts that these two plants were likely not Evolutionary Plants, he instantly felt like he had lost an entire reconnaissance team for nothing.

And just then, a yacht used for the soldiers’ ”relaxation” had managed to break free of his control and escape from Dawn Base!

Although fuel was tight, the captain, in a fit of rage, had still sent two speedboats to give chase.

”Captain, please calm down. Is it really wise to waste fuel searching for one yacht?” the staff officer beside him ventured, bracing himself for the captain’s reaction.

Their fuel supply was dwindling. Even though they were anchored in the Second-level Wind Sea Region, they still needed fuel to maintain their position. If they ran out completely, they would be left to drift with the currents as well.

The captain glanced at him and replied, ”The yacht didn’t get far, just to the adjacent Seventh-level Wind Sea Region. It won’t take that much fuel! What’s most important is the Gold-Type Evolver. The Gold-Type Superpower is vital!”

The staff officer paused for a moment, then nodded.

”At the same time, I want to make it known that the base will show no mercy to those who try to escape Dawn Base! Spread the word!”

The staff officer immediately nodded in agreement and walked out.

Soon, news of the escaped yacht spread throughout Dawn Base, and everyone was talking about it.

”I really don’t get it. Why would they run? Escaping just means dying at sea, right? At least here on Dawn Base, they could survive!”

”Yeah, but I’m surprised they actually got away!”

”It’s not surprising at all. Escaping is the easy part; it’s surviving that’s hard!”

”What do you mean, ’easy’? Why don’t you try escaping if you think it’s so simple?”

”If you have a bit of fuel, you just head straight for the Seventh-level Wind Sea Region. That’s how you escape, isn’t it?”

”But... escaping into the Seventh-level Wind Sea Region? Isn’t that a death wish?”

”Maybe for them, even death is a kind of release.”

Meanwhile, Jin Ziyu and the others who had escaped from Dawn Base had finished cleaning the yacht, even rinsing the deck several times.

Everyone was sitting in the main cabin, waiting for Ren Yuanyang’s next instructions.

”The yacht doesn’t seem to be rocking as violently as before!”

”Of course. We’re right next to the forest, aren’t we? The trees are stabilizing us, so the rocking is definitely a little better!”

”A forest? How can there be a forest out here in the middle of the ocean?”

”You’re right! I must still be groggy from the knockout drug. I can’t believe I didn’t realize that!”

Jin Ziyu was also taken aback; it seemed she hadn’t considered it either. She stood and walked over to a porthole, gazing at the dense forest outside. ’Is there land here?’ she wondered.

Someone with a keen eye had already noticed something. ”Look! The trees are growing right out of the water! They’re standing upright in it. It’s so strange!”

”Yeah, how did such a huge grove of trees grow out here?”

”It looks like there are little lights in the forest, too! Does Peach Blossom Base have that much power to spare?”

The small lights they saw were, of course, Fluorescent Cacti. Many had been placed throughout the Banyan Forest to provide light for photosynthesis.

Ren Yuanyang and his group would simulate day and night by periodically covering the Fluorescent Cacti.

There were only six of them, and they were busy from dawn till dusk every day.

Even so, there were many tasks they couldn’t keep up with, like pressing soybean oil and refining diesel and gasoline.

With Jin Ziyu and her boatload of people, their workload could be significantly lightened.

As for the food Jin Ziyu and her group would consume, that was a trivial matter for Peach Blossom Base.

Peach Blossom Base could support two hundred people, let alone twenty-some.

”The boss came out of the forest earlier. Do you think they live in there?”

”Very likely! With so many trees providing cover, the wind inside must be very calm!”

”The boss is so lucky to have found a place like this!”

As they were talking, Lu Jiamei emerged from the forest, carrying two plants.

Jin Ziyu’s eyes widened when she saw Lu Jiamei walking through the forest as if on solid ground. ”Does she know Qinggong?”

In the light of the Fluorescent Cacti, someone saw that the path under Lu Jiamei’s feet was covered in Duckweed.

”Don’t tell me that Duckweed is holding them up?”

”Duckweed? Are you kidding? That stuff can only hold up small insects!”

”There must be something else underneath the Duckweed, then!”

While everyone was speculating, Lu Jiamei boarded the yacht.

Seeing that the cabin had been cleaned until it sparkled, she gave a slight nod and asked, ”Does anyone know where the yacht’s water tank is located?”

A woman timidly raised her hand. ”I used to be on the logistics staff for this yacht, so I know my way around it!”

Lu Jiamei was taken aback. She hadn’t expected the yacht’s ”logistics staff” to all be such beautiful women.

’Looks like this yacht was a rich man’s paradise before the flood, too.’
