Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 97: Chapter 96: Better Safe Than Sorry, You’ll Have Your Hands Full

”Okay, Boss. Should I take a roundabout route again this time?” Qin Haonan asked after swallowing the food in his mouth.

”Of course. Safety first!” Ren Yuanyang said with absolute certainty.

”But with the geomagnetic storm coming, will they still track me?” Qin Haonan asked, a bit confused.

’Since a geomagnetic storm might happen, the Aircraft Carrier Base shouldn’t have the time to bother tracking me!’

”It’s hard to say. But the geomagnetic storm will definitely divert some of their attention. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have proposed trading with them so soon,” Ren Yuanyang said, shaking his head.

Originally, he had only contacted Wang Jun to share the information about the effects of evolved animal flesh. They would have discovered it sooner or later anyway, so telling them now was just an easy favor to pave the way for future trades.

But he hadn’t expected them to share information about the fluctuations in Blue Star’s magnetic field in return.

It was precisely because of this news that Ren Yuanyang decided to go ahead with the trade for the woodworking tools immediately.

Besides the fact that the geomagnetic storm would distract them and keep them from paying too much attention to him, he was also worried that a severe storm might damage their industrial equipment. That would make it more troublesome to produce the tools Hua Lingfang needed.

At that point, it would be uncertain if they would still be willing to make the tools for him at all.

As for whether he could acquire the needed woodworking tools from other survivors, Ren Yuanyang had considered it. But doing so would be time-consuming and difficult, with no guarantee of finding a complete set.

Taking all this into account, Ren Yuanyang finally decided to offer fifty kilograms of Cherry Tomatoes in exchange for the tools.

The last harvest of Cherry Tomatoes had yielded over eighty kilograms. Afterward, he planted a dozen or so more stalks, focusing on enhancing their growth cycle.

Although the number of fruits was reduced by half, the growth cycle had been shortened to just 1.25 days. He could harvest another wave this afternoon, and the total yield would definitely exceed one hundred kilograms.

This time, Qin Haonan would definitely have to take more with him and see if he could also happen to acquire any other plants from other survivors.

After all, he had already put the word out last time; this trip would be a test of its effectiveness.

After lunch, Qin Haonan and the others resumed extracting diesel fuel, while Hua Lingfang went to tend the crops. Ren Yuanyang returned to the area near the house. The moso bamboo had already grown to be as thick as a bowl, and he could see many new shoots poking out near its base.

A closer look revealed the sprawling network of rhizomes.

’If Haonan can bring the tools back tomorrow, we can put this to use right away,’ Ren Yuanyang thought.

Of course, they couldn’t dig up this first batch of bamboo shoots to eat. They still needed a large quantity of bamboo stalks.

As time went on, the various vegetables began to ripen one after another, enriching their diet. They could afford to wait to eat the bamboo shoots.

After checking on the growth of the plants around the house, Ren Yuanyang began enhancing them again. Constantly consuming his Mental Energy was, in itself, a form of training.

Aboard the Aircraft Carrier Base, a secretary answered a call and then reported to Wang Jun, ”Captain, the tools requested by Tattooed Haonan’s group are ready!”

With modern industrial equipment, manufacturing those tools was a piece of cake.

Wang Jun nodded slightly and immediately sent a message to Ji Yizhi: ”Are you still planning to track them for this trade?”

Ji Yizhi was taken aback for a moment. He was in the middle of directing his fleet to take defensive measures against the geomagnetic storm. Seeing Wang Jun’s message, he pondered for a moment before replying, ”Let’s track them one more time. We’ll be more thorough this time and see if we can find out where they’re hiding!”

”Then get your people ready. The trade is tomorrow morning. The other party hasn’t notified us of the specific location yet, but it’ll most likely be near our base,” Wang Jun nodded and replied. ”Right now, your fleet’s drones are the most advanced. Let’s see if you can find them!”

”The drones of your two fleets aren’t bad either. You just don’t want to be the ones doing the tracking!” Ji Yizhi retorted irritably, pursing his lips.

Wang Jun just smiled and shook his head. ”They’re still a bit lacking compared to yours. However, if the geomagnetic storm really does occur, the drones will likely be affected.”

Ji Yizhi frowned slightly. ”True. But I’m incredibly curious about the faction behind this Tattooed Haonan. I won’t be satisfied until we find their base!”

”Let’s hope the geomagnetic storm isn’t too intense this time,” Wang Jun remarked with a similar sentiment.

”Yeah,” Ji Yizhi agreed with a nod. He then ended the call and went to make the arrangements for tracking Tattooed Haonan.

Although Wang Jun’s side had finished making the tools long ago, he waited until evening to send a message to Qin Haonan.

”We’ve finished making the woodworking tools. Has the location for tomorrow’s trade been decided?”

At that moment, Ren Yuanyang and his group were eating dinner. Qin Haonan saw the message and immediately relayed it to Ren Yuanyang.

”They finished so quickly? Looks like we asked for too little,” Ren Yuanyang muttered. ”Reply to him. Say we’ll inform them of the specific location half an hour before the trade.”

Seeing Qin Haonan’s reply, Wang Jun felt a bit helpless. ’This is overly cautious! I just wonder how much diesel you’ve prepared, and whether you’ll be able to escape our surveillance again tomorrow.’

With that thought, he replied with a simple ”Okay” and turned off his phone.

”Tomorrow, when you head toward the Aircraft Carrier Base, take a roundabout route. They will definitely have surveillance personnel stationed in advance,” Ren Yuanyang instructed Qin Haonan.

”Okay, Boss!” Qin Haonan nodded.

”Lu Jiamei, you and Xin Wan will rotate shifts for guard duty tonight. Haonan needs to set out after midnight,” Ren Yuanyang continued to delegate tasks.

”Yes, Chief!” Lu Jiamei and Xin Wan replied in unison.

Hua Lingfang eagerly volunteered, ”Sir, I can take a shift too!”

”For now, just focus on taking good care of our crops. Once the woodworking tools arrive, we’ll need you to help make all sorts of furniture. You’ll have plenty to keep you busy then!” Ren Yuanyang smiled and shook his head.

Hua Lingfang was stunned for a moment, then frowned and asked, ”How long will it take for our moso bamboo to mature?”

Normally, moso bamboo takes at least two or three years to become usable timber. He knew Ren Yuanyang could shorten this time, but he wasn’t sure by how much.

Ren Yuanyang hadn’t specified the moso bamboo’s maturation period before. When Hua Lingfang brought it up, everyone turned to look at Ren Yuanyang with curiosity.

Ren Yuanyang smiled and held up three fingers.

”Three days!?” Hua Lingfang exclaimed, his voice a mixture of shock and disbelief.

Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly. ”I planted it the day you all brought it back. Tomorrow will be exactly three days. As long as Haonan brings the tools back, you can get to work. Even though only one stalk has matured so far, you can still make a few things with it!”

Lu Jiamei and the others, however, weren’t particularly surprised. In fact, they thought this growth period was perfectly normal.

Seeing Hua Lingfang’s disbelieving expression, Ren Yuanyang said with a smile, ”Why don’t you go take a look for yourself after we finish dinner? You’ll see then!”

”Okay!” Hua Lingfang immediately agreed, his eating pace quickening.

The others were just as curious, and they naturally sped up their eating as well.
