Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 87: Chapter 86: Not Hereditary, Demonstrating Weapons

”Elder Hua, that’s not a very clever question,” Qin Haonan said, his mouth full of red juice and his words a bit slurred. ”The boss is an Evolver who can make plants evolve. When it comes to food, we can have as much as we want!”

Ren Yuanyang glanced at Qin Haonan and shook his head. ”It’s not as exaggerated as he says. The external environment and my Mental Energy do have some limitations, but for now, they’re negligible!”

Hua Lingfang nodded, a look of utter disbelief on his face.

Hua Wen had already finished a cherry tomato and was licking his lips, savoring the taste.

Lu Jiamei grabbed a handful directly from the basin and pushed them into Hua Wen’s arms.

”The boss said so himself. If we don’t eat them, they’ll probably spoil and be thrown out. It’s a waste to throw them away, so hurry up and eat some more!”

Hua Wen instinctively caught them with both hands. Seeing the Cherry Tomatoes piled high in his small hands, he quickly said, ”This is too much!”

Ren Yuanyang smiled. ”If it’s too much, just put them in your pocket for now. Be careful not to crush them. Eat one whenever you get a craving. They’ll give you vitamins, so you don’t have to worry about getting scurvy out on this vast ocean!”

Hua Wen nodded and replied, ”Okay, thank you, sir!”

Then he started putting the Cherry Tomatoes from his hands into his pocket.

”Here, here, take some more!” Qin Haonan grabbed another handful and stuffed it into his pocket.

”That’s enough, that’s enough! This is way too much!” Hua Wen said hurriedly when he saw Qin Haonan was about to stuff in more.

Seeing them take such good care of his grandson, Hua Lingfang secretly made a resolution. ’I must do a good job with the tasks the boss gives me and help maintain this base.’

”Let’s wait until he’s eaten some before giving him more. Too many will get crushed, and they won’t taste good if they’re squished!” Lu Jiamei said with a smile.

Qin Haonan still had a full handful. Hearing what Lu Jiamei said, he stopped trying to stuff them into Hua Wen’s pocket and stuffed them into his own mouth instead.

”Boss, since we can’t eat all of these, why don’t we trade them for some other plants?” Qin Haonan suggested while stuffing his face.

Hua Lingfang frowned slightly. ”But wouldn’t that mean we’re giving away the evolved seeds?”

Seeds could be taken from ripe cherry tomatoes and cultivated.

Ren Yuanyang smiled and replied, ”You don’t have to worry about that. The seeds inside these Cherry Tomatoes aren’t evolved!”

Hearing this, Hua Lingfang was slightly taken aback. ”Evolved plants can’t produce evolved seeds?”

Ren Yuanyang nodded, offering the same reason he’d used before. ”It might be a flaw in my ability.”

’At this moment, he felt that the traits enhanced by the system not being passed down to the next generation wasn’t necessarily a bad thing for him.’

’With this feature, he could sell these seed-bearing crops without any reservations.’

’At the same time, when dealing with new seeds, he could choose different enhancement paths. Although it consumed a lot of Mental Energy, it gave him more options.’

’Take these Cherry Tomatoes, for example. If their seeds were also enhanced, they could only be propagated generation after generation with their current enhancements. Since it had already been enhanced nine times, if he wanted to enhance other aspects, he would have to wait for a breakthrough in his Mental Energy to do so.’

’This system setting, which allowed him to re-select enhancement paths, was even more important for plants with multiple functions.’

’For example, the Iron Melon Tree shouldered the dual functions of providing cannonballs and producing gasoline. Ren Yuanyang could re-plan the enhancements for the Iron Melon seeds.’

’One part could be enhanced for explosive power, and another part for the quality and quantity of gasoline production. This would allow for more targeted results.’

’Then there was the Dripping Lotus, which not only purified water but also acted as a plant-based dryer. It also required a re-planning of its seed enhancement paths with different focuses.’

Hearing Ren Yuanyang say that the evolved traits weren’t passed down to the seeds, Hua Lingfang nodded. ”In that case, we can definitely sell them. Still, we need to be careful. Attracting unwanted attention will always be a problem!”

When Qin Haonan heard Hua Lingfang say this, he asked anxiously, ”Boss, so are we still going to trade for plants or not?”

”Of course, we are!” Ren Yuanyang said with absolute certainty. ”Otherwise, all this food would go to waste! But we’ll have to wait a few days. Once the wind and waves pick up, we’ll have a natural screen. If we’re careful then, it shouldn’t be a big problem!”

Qin Haonan immediately grew excited. ”That’s great!”

”Let’s make some preparations over the next few days! Especially the diesel, we need to prepare a lot of it!” Ren Yuanyang instructed.

”You got it! Leave the job of extracting diesel to me!” Qin Haonan replied, patting his chest.

Hearing this, Hua Lingfang was stunned once again.

’What could possibly be pressed to produce diesel?’

Although he knew a lot about medicinal herbs, he wasn’t a walking encyclopedia and knew nothing about the Diesel Tree.

Lu Jiamei explained it to him, and it dawned on Hua Lingfang. ”No wonder our base’s speedboats can go out and roam around so freely!”

”When you have time, tell Elder Hua about the special plants on our base. From now on, we’ll focus on accumulating resources and, at the same time, train our combat skills!” Ren Yuanyang laid out his requirements. ”You need to become proficient in using the plant weapons! I will expand the cultivation of Iron Melons and Spray Melons for combat, so don’t worry about running out!”

”Yes!” Lu Jiamei responded.

”I’m heading back to cultivate the plant weapons. After you’re done clearing the aerial roots, you’re free to do as you please!” Ren Yuanyang hopped back onto his small boat and headed toward his house.

Hearing Ren Yuanyang mention plant weapons, the young Hua Wen was incredibly curious. ”Brother Nan, what are these plant weapons?”

”A small shotgun and a big grenade!” Qin Haonan summarized succinctly, then grabbed a small Spray Melon and an Iron Melon from the side.

”Sister Mei, how about I do a little demonstration?” Qin Haonan asked Lu Jiamei for permission.

”You’ve already got them out. Go ahead and demonstrate,” Lu Jiamei replied.

”You got it!” Qin Haonan responded, twisting three freshly cut aerial roots together and throwing the bundle directly in front of him.

Then he quickly pulled the stem off the Spray Melon and aimed it at the bundle of aerial roots.

SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!

POP! POP! POP!

The edge of the aerial root bundle exploded, and the shredded pieces scattered onto the water’s surface. The larger, untouched part of the bundle also fell onto the water.

He missed!

Qin Haonan’s original plan was to hit the bundle of aerial roots dead center and shatter it, but he had only hit the edge.

”See? The power of this Spray Melon is just like a shotgun, right? Of course, it’s a lot smaller than a shotgun!” Qin Haonan decisively changed the subject.

Both Hua Lingfang and Hua Wen were dumbfounded. They had never imagined that a plant could possess such power!

”Now, watch this!” Qin Haonan snapped the stem off the Iron Melon and threw it directly at the bundle of aerial roots that had just fallen into the water.

Almost simultaneously, Lu Jiamei tossed out a bundle of aerial roots, which trailed right behind the Iron Melon.

BOOM!

The Iron Melon hit the water’s surface and immediately burst open.

The bundle of aerial roots Lu Jiamei had thrown was instantly blown to smithereens, and even the bundle already on the water’s surface was sliced into several pieces by the fragments.

”The power is about the same as a grenade, right? It’s just a bit bigger!” Qin Haonan said, looking with extreme satisfaction at the shocked expressions on the faces of Hua Lingfang and his grandson.
