Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Strange Undercurrent, Problems in Succession

Inside the shipping container, Ren Yuanyang was checking the system’s instructions on animal enhancement.

According to the system’s instructions, for an animal of the same size, animal enhancement required at least ten times the Mental Energy of plant enhancement.

’Limited by my maximum Mental Energy, I still have to start the enhancements when they’re young!’

Despite the limitations on his Mental Energy, unlocking animal enhancement would still greatly accelerate the development of their group’s livestock farming.

’Wang Jun probably won’t be willing to give me any adult poultry or livestock,’ Ren Yuanyang mused.

Meanwhile, Wang Jun informed the captains of the other two fleets of the final terms of the deal.

”Each of you will prepare one pig and one rabbit. You can decide on the genders yourselves,” Wang Jun said finally.

”This guy, Tattooed Haonan, really drives a hard bargain!” Long Zhan said with a faint smile. ”As long as he can provide real experimental data and the Purification Potion, I’ll provide a young sow!”

”Then thanks, Captain Long. I’ll provide the doe and the boar!” Ji Yizhi didn’t stand on ceremony and followed Long Zhan’s lead. ”But when we make the trade, we have to confirm the Purification Potion is real before we proceed with the rest of the deal!”

”I understand. You’d better hurry over. The prerequisite for the trade is driving away the Feixiang!” Wang Jun urged.

”We’re already on our way, full speed ahead. Don’t rush us!” Long Zhan replied. ”By the way, has your research team figured out the cause of the undercurrents?”

”We detected the presence of ultrasound when the undercurrents were most frequent, but we never found the source. Other than that, we’ve made no progress in our research on the undercurrents,” Wang Jun said, shaking his head.

”Same here. But some of our scientists speculate that this is likely the work of an Advanced Civilization. They churn up the supplies that have sunk to the bottom, perhaps to give us a fighting chance,” Ji Yizhi said with a frown.

”If that’s really the case, then why don’t they bring the supplies all the way to the surface instead of just churning them up to about ten meters below? I ask you, what survivor would dare to dive ten meters deep to retrieve those supplies under these conditions?” Long Zhan found it hard to understand. ”It feels like what they’re doing is completely pointless!”

”Or maybe the Advanced Civilization is observing our reaction to the disaster?” Wang Jun said, a little uncertain.

”That Advanced Civilization must be really bored, then!” Long Zhan said, pursing his lips.

Ji Yizhi shook his head. ”We haven’t even figured out where all this rain is coming from, let alone a supernatural phenomenon like this. All signs indicate that the rules of the world have changed, and we can only slowly feel our way around the new ones. During the last undercurrent, everyone managed to get a lot of supplies, right?”

”We were lucky enough to find a distribution dock. Only a few hundred tons,” Wang Jun replied with a smile.

”Show-off! I’m logging off!” Long Zhan proactively ended the video call.

Ji Yizhi was also a little envious. ”No wonder you’re not interested in taking down that Tattooed Haonan. Your supplies are plentiful!”

”I just want to peacefully obtain the experimental data and the Purification Potion,” Wang Jun said with a smile and a shrug.

”If our supplies run low in the future, I hope Captain Wang can spare some for us!” Ji Yizhi continued.

”Of course, no problem. You can trade for them with personnel or other resources!” Wang Jun replied with a smile.

”What a slave driver. I’m out!” Ji Yizhi complained, and also logged off.

Wang Jun shook his head, gazing at the slanting wind and fine rain outside the porthole, lost in thought.

Meanwhile, Ren Yuanyang was in the shipping container, frowning at the full heads of rice.

With no sun and damp air, if the mature rice wasn’t harvested in time, it would very likely start sprouting right on the stalk.

’I have to harvest it in time, no matter what. But the problem is what to do with it after.’

Under normal circumstances, the harvested wet grain could be dried with a dryer, but the current situation was, of course, far from normal.

”I’ll just take it one step at a time. If all else fails, I’ll use a torch to dry them!” Ren Yuanyang said helplessly, picking up a combat knife to begin harvesting the heads of rice.

He cut off all the heads of rice and set them aside. Then, he controlled the bitter grass to release the stolons wrapped around the rice plants and collected all the rice stalks from the water.

After collecting the stalks, Ren Yuanyang changed the water in the small pond, then planted the previously cultivated seedlings back into it, using the bitter grass’s stolons to secure them at the proper spacing.

”Head, lunch is ready,” Lu Jiamei’s voice came from outside.

”Okay, I’m coming!” Ren Yuanyang replied and got up to head outside.

Since the power on Xin Wan’s speedboat had run out, this lunch was cooked on the Lvzhi Country speedboat they had captured.

”Head, we found these Cherry Tomatoes while cleaning the boat. I forgot to give them to you earlier!” Xin Wan said as soon as Ren Yuanyang walked in, immediately handing over the shriveled Cherry Tomatoes.

Ren Yuanyang was slightly taken aback. ”The Lvzhi Country team had perks this good?”

Lu Jiamei added, ”They probably belonged to the couple that was tortured and killed. They must have been saving them, not bearing to eat them. In the end, they never got the chance.”

Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly and took the two Cherry Tomatoes.

[Cherry Tomato seeds detected. Enhance?]

’Looks like the system thinks these shriveled Cherry Tomatoes aren’t worth enhancing, so it’s prompting me to enhance the seeds inside directly.’

Ren Yuanyang put the two Cherry Tomatoes directly into his pocket. He would enhance them after lunch.

”Head, can the seeds in these Cherry Tomatoes still be planted?” Xin Wan asked curiously.

Ren Yuanyang paused for a moment, then replied with a smile, ”Of course. The Cherry Tomatoes haven’t gone bad!”

Xin Wan nodded happily. This would likely be the first fruit or vegetable for their group!

There was no telling when the kiwi saplings Qin Haonan had brought would grow up and bear fruit.

Obviously, Cherry Tomatoes were much easier to grow. Xin Wan had once grown them on her balcony and even successfully harvested a batch.

Qin Haonan slurped a mouthful of plain congee and said, ”Boss, the wind feels a bit stronger than yesterday. If it keeps picking up like this for a few more days, the shipping container might not be stable!”

Ren Yuanyang nodded and replied helplessly, ”I know. There’s no good solution right now. If it comes to it, we’ll just have to move everything from the container onto the speedboats!”

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Ren Yuanyang really wanted to enhance a large patch of Duckweed to serve as land, but Duckweed had the characteristic of drifting with the current; as long as the sea surface moved, it would move with it.

If he could enhance a whole forest, it might be possible to stabilize the body of water, but with his current Mental Energy, forget a forest—even a single Diesel Tree was beyond him.

’However, according to the system’s prompts, my Mental Energy should soon be sufficient to enhance that Diesel Tree!’

Ren Yuanyang shook his head slightly. Though he had a lot, he always felt he lacked even more. There were problems that needed solving everywhere he looked.

’Contentment brings happiness. I’ll think about it after I’m full!’ Ren Yuanyang told himself, then dug into his food.

Just then, a system notification sound chimed...
