Urban All-Round Master

Chapter 467: Chapter 462 Roll Away, Little Calf

It wasn’t until later, in a certain elegant chamber, that Old Meng, the helmsman of Dragon Team, realized what had happened and said to Long Zaitian with a strange laugh, ”Mr. Long, are you deliberately opposing me?”

Huh?!

Long Zaitian, who was drinking tea, stared with perplexed black eyes and asked in confusion, ”What do you mean by that?”

”Mr. Long, stop hiding it from me. Do you think I don’t know what you’re up to? You can’t tell me that establishing Shadow Group today was just a joke. If you try to fob me off with that excuse, you’re making a big mistake,” said Old Meng, nearly blowing his beard and staring his eyes out in anger. Luckily, there were no other people in the elegant chamber, just the two of them. Otherwise, if outsiders saw two individuals of such a high status arguing with their mouths wide open, how many people would they make laugh to death?

”Uh... hehe, Old Meng, what’s the big deal about this? I thought it was something else. It’s just a little Shadow Group, isn’t it? Do you really have to get so angry that you’re blowing your beard and staring out your eyes? You’re not young anymore, look at this temper of yours,” Long Zaitian smirked, trying to play it off with a joke.

”Bullshit! Do you think I’m three kids wrapped into one? Regarding the CIA establishing Shadow Group, did you report it to the higher-ups? If they know what you’ve done, do you realize what the consequences will be? Dragon Team isn’t the same as your CIA, you need to know your limits, understand the gravity of the situation, you got it? I’m also doing this out of concern for you. Some things shouldn’t be played with too heavily,” Old Meng retorted.

Although Old Meng always liked to contradict Long Zaitian, their relationship was indeed very strong.

”The higher-ups will understand my intentions. I’m not even afraid, so why are you so anxious for me?” Long Zaitian grinned, appearing completely carefree, almost provoking Old Meng to slap him hard across the face.

The two’s personalities were completely opposite; one was more reserved, the other more fiery, and quick to curse. It was hard to imagine how this legendary figure of Dragon Team had climbed to his position as the helmsman.

”The key issue is your choice of person. You should understand this guy’s background. You’re nurturing a future problem by keeping a tiger. Although I have to admit, he really is talented—sweeping Las Vegas, having a reputation that overshadows all of Southeast Asia, even once with thirteen people resisting an army of two thousand. But that’s all in the past. If you were simply subduing him, I wouldn’t be so worried. But by making him the helmsman of your newly established Shadow Group, aren’t you afraid that he’ll swallow all the power you’ve cultivated over so many years?” Old Meng voiced his concerns.

”Look, Old Meng. Haven’t we known each other for almost thirty years? You should know me well enough. Although I, Long Zaitian, might act foolishly at times, remember this—in Huaxia, no matter the force, once it threatens the edge of the national power, you should know what the consequence is. With Dragon Team watching from behind, do you really think our small Shadow Group from the CIA can stir up any big trouble?” Long Zaitian laughed heartily.

”You! You stubborn old man, I’ve talked to you for so long, and you haven’t listened to a single word,” Old Meng was almost at his wit’s end.

Long Zaitian’s words directly infuriated the helmsman of Dragon Team to the point of almost losing control.

”You should also know that this kid’s identity and background are extraordinary. Five years ago, he left Huaxia and became a hired soldier overseas. Later, he joined Heavenly Gate and in just a few months, became the K-status presence there. Two years ago, under the pursuit of Heavenly Gate, he mysteriously vanished, and that disappearance lasted for two years of Time. Now he suddenly returns to the country, and don’t you find that odd? What exactly has he done in the past two years, where exactly has he been hiding—nobody knows. Didn’t you also send your CIA spies to investigate? Did they come back empty-handed? This kid’s life story is just too bizarre. As an old friend, I hope you don’t put too much stock in him. I don’t mind you simply subduing him, but if you really promise him to rule over all of Huaxia’s Underground Forces, do you think a person like that is reliable?” Old Meng queried.

At this moment, two of the highest-ranking officials in Huaxia were vigorously arguing over the matter of Lin Zifeng. If Lin Zifeng knew about this, it’s hard to say whether he would laugh or just keep laughing.

”Old Meng, I know you really want to snatch him from under me, but I won’t fall for your tricks. Hehe,” Long Zaitian said with a dismissive smirk, acting as if he hadn’t listened to anything at all.

He was well aware that this wasn’t Old Meng’s intention, yet he pretended to be carefree. In reality, he had calculated everything long ago.

”Fuck! Scram, you bastard!”

Meng Lao directly cursed, turned around, and stormed out of the elegant pavilion, leaving Long Zaitian with a face that was gradually turning cold from a deceptive smile.

...

It was not until Lin Zifeng, accompanied by Bu Chen and Black Hawk, had left Sand Castle that the silent Bu Chen finally spoke up, ”Brother Lin, are we really going to follow behind the CIA’s ass from now on?”

Bu Chen had a military background, so he had some understanding of the CIA’s methods; how murky the waters of officialdom could be was something many people were aware of.

Now that the CIA’s Long Zaitian had started to extend an olive branch to Lin Zifeng, Bu Chen couldn’t help but sense a dangerous tinge to their dealings. Through the understanding he had gained over these days, he had come to grasp the CIA’s intentions, as well as Lin Zifeng’s thoughts.

”Do we have a better choice?” Lin Zifeng asked with a smile and then patted Black Hawk on the shoulder, ”What do you think about Shadow Group, this new department that’s been established?”

”No opinion, I always feel the CIA is using us.” Black Hawk was a straight shooter, especially by Lin Zifeng’s side, the guy never knew how to lie.

”So we’re just going to hang around behind the CIA?” Bu Chen’s eyes flashed with unwillingness.

If Lin Zifeng hadn’t pulled him out of the detention center in the first place, it wouldn’t be as bad, but since Lin Zifeng had made him a promise and also ignited the passion in his heart, he was not willing to be used by the CIA without gaining anything in return.

”Take it easy, there’s no rush. In a game of wits with a tiger, it depends on who is the tiger and who is the skin,” Lin Zifeng said, and then, without further comment, he strode into the night.

In fact, Lin Zifeng was clearer than anyone about the situation, but some things were not yet at the point where they could be discussed.

The CIA’s Long Zaitian was using him, and he was using the CIA. Everyone was tacitly taking what they needed from each other.

Now that Lin Zifeng had taken control of the Shadow Group, the CIA, to prevent his power from growing too strong, had deliberately inserted Long Yunfei into the mix.

In other words, Lin Zifeng was just a figurehead in the Shadow Group.

And what Long Zaitian intended was to use Lin Zifeng’s hands to help his cherished grandson climb to power.

However, Lin Zifeng was quite happy to take the easy route. He’d rather leave the work of Shadow Group to Long Yunfei. He would be better off going home and spending time with the boss...

It wasn’t until the next morning, when streaks of gentle sunlight streamed into the room and a pair of bright eyelids twitched twice under the adjustment of the biological clock, that the day began.
