Urban All-Round Master

Chapter 99: Chapter 99: The Unbearable Past

After consulting with several women, Lin Zifeng finally bit the bullet and let that sissy David give him a very fashionable haircut, though the garish scent on him really made Lin Zifeng feel allergic. If it hadn’t been for the fact that there were people standing beside him, Lin Zifeng might have already lost control and beaten him up.

Following a senseless discussion, the competitive Meng Youjing finally let Lin Zifeng go, but instructed that he should be on call at all times.

...

Half an hour later, Lin Zifeng, stretching and lighting up a cigarette, got out of the taxi. Looking at the colorful neon lights in the night and the seductively dressed greeters, Lin Zifeng hadn’t lived such a luxurious life for a long time. It made him think about some of the things that had happened over the past five years.

However, Lin Zifeng just smiled faintly, the past was like a dream, what was gone was gone, and thinking was useless. Overthinking would only harm brain cells. At that moment, Lin Zifeng’s phone rang again. It was Wang Jun calling. After answering the call, Lin Zifeng walked towards the elevator, where Wang Jun was already waiting for him by the doors.

The two of them were startled at first; after all, five years had matured them a lot.

When Lin Zifeng appeared, Wang Jun immediately gave him a bear hug, engulfing Lin Zifeng in his arms.

”You finally came back! Do you know how much I’ve missed you in these five years? When you disappeared, I thought you were dead, and I searched for you all over the world. You finally came back!” Wang Jun was like a child and even shed tears. From those tears, it was evident that his feelings for Lin Zifeng were genuine.

”Heh, alright, alright, we’re grown-ups now, and yet you’re crying. If someone sees this later, they’ll laugh you to death,” Lin Zifeng teased him.

”What’s there to be afraid of? Let them look. Isn’t it normal for a man to cry? Some people can’t even shed tears when they want to, besides, these tears feel good to let out.”

”Alright, alright, let’s go in. I bet our old classmates are getting impatient, right?” Lin Zifeng patted Wang Jun on the shoulder, comforting him.

”Sure! Let’s go. I bet after not seeing you for five years, nobody will recognize you,” said Wang Jun.

When Lin Zifeng and Wang Jun entered the private room together, the whole room of about thirty people was stunned!

It took them a while to come back to their senses.

”Didn’t Lin Zifeng disappear five years ago? How come he’s here?”

Everyone was dumbfounded. Wang Jun had just mentioned that he wanted to give everyone a surprise, and it turned out to be Lin Zifeng!

The laughing stock in everyone’s eyes five years ago, the person they looked down upon, had actually come back to life! And his temperament was clearly different from before. Lin Zifeng’s eyes no longer had the distracted look they once did. His eyes were fine and long, and when he smiled, you could only see a sliver, but they shone brightly, adding a mysterious aura to him. His slender figure was obviously more solid than before but still slender, just much tougher than five years ago.

At that time, five years ago, Lin Zifeng had just graduated from high school. During his high school years, he endured the cold shoulders of his classmates for a very simple reason: they looked down on him for his poor family background, and few wanted to associate with him. Furthermore, Lin Zifeng wasn’t very talkative back then, always quiet and reticent. Eventually, unable to bear the ridicule from his classmates, he dropped out and spent half a year messing around with the likes of Old Liu the fifth in his hometown. During that shameful period, Lin Zifeng was practically seen as a thug by the villagers—there was all kinds of idle gossip about him, until his parents suddenly disappeared...

The classmates present were all looking at Lin Zifeng as if he were a monster.

”Tsk, tsk, tsk! He’s changed so much! Who would have thought the useless fellow from the past could become like this! It’s unbelievable!”

At this point, a youth dressed in flamboyant clothes and emanating an arrogant demeanor walked out from the crowd and started blustering at Lin Zifeng. It was hard to tell whether he was praising or belittling Lin Zifeng; there seemed to be more to his words.

”How can you speak like that, Li Tian? What do you mean by that? Lin Zifeng just got back and you’re talking to him like this? Are you looking for trouble on purpose?” Wang Jun had seen it all. This guy named Li Tian was obviously looking for a fight.

After so many years, he still hadn’t changed from the bully he used to be, and it was unknown what was wrong with him.

He thought he could look down on his old classmates just because his family had some money.

”Yo! Wang Jun, my fellow classmate! What’s with the hero act? Can’t I make a couple of remarks? After all, it’s been years since we’ve seen each other, and his return is so sudden. Can’t I, an old classmate, have my say? Even if what I said was a bit heartless, it was all in praise. I was complimenting him!” Li Tian, seeing Wang Jun defend Lin Zifeng, was immediately annoyed. After all, there were still so many classmates around. Raising his voice, he sprayed Wang Jun with his words.

Of course! Wang Jun’s family was also well-respected and affluent, so he wasn’t afraid of this bastard. Yet among the dozens standing beside him, not a single person spoke up for justice, because who isn’t practical these days?

In high school, it was all about connections, with the aim of having networks to rely on in society later, building strong relationships to make dealings smoother, something good for everyone. Who would have the appetite to say kind words for Lin Zifeng? Plus, it was a well-known fact that Lin Zifeng came from a poor family; bluntly put, those who got close to him would be unlucky. It was better to forge good relations with Li Tian for future care. Who would want to be associated with a poor sod like Lin Zifeng? But even among the grassroots, there were one or two sparrows that transformed into phoenixes.

At that moment, a sweet-looking female classmate stepped forward, smiled at both Li Tian and Lin Zifeng, and said, ”We’re all old classmates, why does it have to be like this upon meeting? Let’s leave the past in the past as time moves on. It’s not easy for us to gather together now, so let’s be happy. Whatever wrongs there were in the past, let’s all laugh and let bygones be bygones!”

”Heh, at least your words are pleasant to hear!” Li Tian chuckled, his eyes briefly sweeping over Liu Zilan’s chest.

Lin Zifeng could see that this sweet-looking girl was Liu Zilan, whom he had a decent relationship with back in high school. He had been bullied less, thanks to her help. Now she was still stepping in to play the Peacemaker.

Seeing someone play the Peacemaker, Lin Zifeng gave a slight smile and was about to pick up his glass to drink when another classmate came up. ”Lin Zifeng! Long time no see. It looks like you’ve matured a lot, and changed quite a bit.” This was Yang Hui, Lin Zifeng’s old pal from back in the day, with an extremely deep and scheming mind. But back then, he was too naive to notice, mistaking Yang Hui’s surface smiles and hidden barbs for simple camaraderie. Now, as far as Lin Zifeng was concerned, the tactics of cunning and scheming were like child’s play—he had gotten tired of
