Urban All-Round Master

Chapter 98: Chapter 98 The Eldest Young Master of the Ye Family

On the couch, Hua Buqi sat with one leg cocked over the other, propping her chin with one hand, her dark eyes whirling around. Lin Zifeng’s argument wasn’t entirely unreasonable. Perhaps the other party was simply extending an invitation with good intentions, and by bringing an inappropriate boyfriend, would it not seem insincere?

As Hua Buqi’s agent, Meng Youjing had seen this sort of thing plenty of times before. The entertainment industry is chaotic; she had seen plenty of those who pretend to be noble and understated, but beneath their facade, they were depraved—God only knows what they all get up to in private.

”No! Absolutely not! As Huahua’s agent, we have to assume the worst in any situation that could harm Huahua’s personal and professional reputation. If they really have ulterior motives, then by the time we find out, it will be too late. Moreover, it might not be safe for the two of us women to go. I’ve seen enough of the entertainment industry over the years—I’ve been shortchanged at the dinner table enough times. So, we need to take all precautions in advance to thwart any hidden agendas and quash any last hopes they might harbor.”

Being an agent to this extent speaks volumes to this woman’s capabilities; no wonder someone as pure as Huahua could become so popular—it’s no surprise. She had Huahua’s schedule clearly marked out. In the entertainment industry, without recognizing some powerful patrons or offering physical favors in return, there aren’t many who can make a name for themselves, especially newcomers like Huahua, who rely solely on their youthful idol image.

She had managed everything in Hua Buqi’s usual routine.

Hua Buqi was her second life. If something happened to Hua Buqi’s body or her reputation was damaged, the unfortunate one wouldn’t just be Huahua alone, but also her as the agent.

For a star to rise, eighty percent depends on her agent. If the agent is not a good pick, the chances of making it big are greatly reduced.

So, for tonight’s business dinner, most of the ideas were considered by Meng Youjing. Having been in the entertainment circle for so long, she knew when they splurge big money to back Huahua’s commercial performances, they definitely had an agenda. If it was merely to announce their company’s news, that would be one thing, but if not, then their motives must be more than that. To be safe, it was best to bring in Lin Zifeng as her temporary boyfriend and pretend he is a rich second-generation to kill off any hopeful ideas others might have. If they had no interest in Huahua, it would be fine, but if they had malicious intentions, she had seen Lin Zifeng fight before.

”But I have to tell you upfront, I have to attend my high school reunion tonight, so I might be a bit late. You guys won’t have a problem with that, right?”

”No way! Absolutely not! If you attend your reunion, then what about me and Huahua? What if they decide to harbor bad intentions when they see us?”

Meng Youjing did not care about Lin Zifeng’s important affairs; having agreed to help Huahua, he had to think of Huahua. Everything had to revolve around her.

At this moment, Nangong Bing also stepped out of his room.

With a snort of disbelief directed at Lin Zifeng, he asked, ”You still have classmates?”

Considering Lin Zifeng’s current situation, Nangong Bing really couldn’t imagine him having classmates, let alone attending a reunion?

”They are classmates from my high school days. Since they knew I was back in town and were having a reunion, they notified me. Hehe, Boss! I haven’t been home for five years. Shouldn’t I check it out? If it were you, I bet even the boss wouldn’t miss this chance to catch up.”

”This... this...”

Although Lin Zifeng could be irritating, there was no refuting his point. Anyone had the right to turn down Meng Youjing’s request. With his cousin on one side and Lin Zifeng, who made a valid but irritating point, on the other, Nangong Bing couldn’t really say much.

”Poor thing, you’re that pitiful, huh? If you really have something important, then go on. Maybe Sister Meng is overthinking it, and they’re just paying us for promotional performances.”

Although Hua Buqi could be childish at times, she was kind-hearted and not selfish. Seeing Lin Zifeng’s pitiful expression, her heart softened, and she agreed to let him go. After all, he also had important matters to attend to; if it were her, she wouldn’t be able to accept it either.

”No! I absolutely can’t accept it! Huahua, the situation isn’t as simple as you think. If they covet you and something happens, it’ll be too late for regrets. The world is so chaotic nowadays, especially for you—if something really goes wrong, both of our futures could be ruined! You need to think it through. My years of intuition tell me, that Ye Family’s young master is definitely not a good egg. Even though he always keeps a low profile domestically and hasn’t been involved in any serious scandals, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.”

”Sister Meng, perhaps you really are overthinking it. You’ve investigated the young master of the Ye Family, and besides, they are now collaborating with our company. The most important thing is, they want us for promotional performances and not for the reasons you think. You’ve been bitten by a snake once, and now you’re scared of ropes for ten years. I’m not afraid, what’s there for you to fear?”

The young girl lounged on the sofa, with her creamy, tender skin partially exposed in the air, making Lin Zifeng’s eyes nearly light up. He hadn’t expected the girl to develop so nicely in such a short time.

”But still...!” Meng Youjing hesitated.

”Yeah, Huahua makes sense. Maybe they’re just inviting you to discuss the promotional performance, right? Besides, with his look, how could he possibly cover up anything significant? No matter how much you dress up, you’d still be just ordinary underlings at best.” Nangong Bing’s words were obviously a personal attack! It seemed like he was speaking for Lin Zifeng, but to Lin Zifeng, it sounded very odd.

”How about this? I’ll give you a suggestion. You two go talk about the promotional performance, and let this guy attend his class reunion. If things really don’t work out, you can call him. He should be able to make it in time. That way, you won’t bother each other.”

Nangong Bing was indeed a whiz in business, pinpointing a solution that everyone else failed to think of.

”Alright then. That’s the only way.” Meng Youjing looked somewhat dejected.

However, the young girl was delighted. Lin Zifeng might be annoying, but putting oneself in his shoes, he hadn’t seen those old classmates in five years; he probably really missed those old friends. Just like her, when she was abroad, she missed her family every day.

So, she understood Lin Zifeng’s feelings very well, even if the guy wouldn’t admit it.
