I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 90: Chapter 67: The Old Lady with a Fox Face, Lodging a Complaint (5k)_3

After they were almost done eating, Wen Yan wiped his mouth, picked up Sparrow Cat with his left hand and Little Zombie with his right, and took them upstairs to rest.

Little Zombie was very well-behaved; once she was fed she went straight to sleep. As for Sparrow Cat, it had already fallen asleep on the way up, tongue sticking out, totally unresponsive.

Once Wen Yan settled the two little guys in, he went downstairs and started chatting with Feng Yao about what happened last night.

”...So that’s basically it. That Water Ghost Domain leads to the Chemical Plant Domain, and I’m guessing there are several other Domains connected in there as well.

The walking dead factory there is truly insane, and they already have haired zombies with spiritual intelligence. There might even be stronger zombies hiding there.

Honestly, it’s totally normal you guys couldn’t get into the Chemical Plant Domain.

From what I can figure, water is the pathway, but it’s not always there when you want it.

If it weren’t for Wang Xueqi’s pure kind nature, I probably wouldn’t have made it back.

You don’t know, I honestly thought I was gonna drown back there. Even Sparrow Cat started crying...”

Feng Yao sighed inwardly.

”You took such a huge risk and got hold of key info—I’ll make sure to report directly to the Minister. No matter what, with this achievement alone, you deserve a fat bonus next month. No way around it.”

”That’s not what I meant...”

”Doesn’t matter what you mean! Scorching Sun Department has its own rules! You have to take it!” Feng Yao was totally firm.

”Alright, look, what I’m saying is, this time it was actually pure luck that I found out all this.

Also, I already made a deal with Lady Lie.

She should be taking me into the Chemical Plant Domain next.

Next time, I might get to meet the folks behind her, maybe even make it deeper inside.

Now, I’ll definitely need backup if it comes down to it—so you all go figure out access first, then we’ll talk about the rest.

I’m just a regular dude who’s practiced a bit of martial arts, I don’t wanna go brawling with anyone.”

Feng Yao nodded—he hadn’t expected Wen Yan to go fight, and wouldn’t let him anyway. Gathering intel was way more valuable.

”Alright, now that we’ve got your info and a clear target, we should come up with an entry method pretty quick. Just make sure to keep yourself safe. If something’s off, bail instantly. If you go out, bring your uncle along, safety first.”

Feng Yao knew the Big Executor Corpse was around, but since he hadn’t met him, as far as he was concerned, that was Wen Yan’s uncle. No matter what, if it came up, Old Zhang could take the fall.

People from Fuyu Mountain bringing a zombie along is totally normal.

After their intel exchange, Feng Yao rushed off in a hurry again—probably heading the two hundred kilometers back to Duanzhou.

Having eaten and drunk his fill, Wen Yan wasn’t that sleepy either. He practiced boxing for an hour, took a shower, crashed onto his bed, and fell straight into a deep sleep—no need to go to work today.

Feng Yao would handle talking to the director. Wen Yan was busy with all this now anyway.

He fell into a deep sleep.

Soon after, he slipped into a dream.

In the darkness, he was floating in midair, surrounded by endless blackness.

An eerie blue light cut through the darkness—a massive Soul Devouring Beast, at least a dozen kilometers long, was hovering in front of him, glowing dreamlike and quietly still.

But this time, he wasn’t afraid anymore.

For some reason, as he looked at the unmoving Soul Devouring Beast, he felt a weird sense—the invincible Soul Devouring Beast seemed almost... a little weak.

He moved in close, reached out, and touched the beast’s body.

In an instant, it was like the darkness lit up, and he could suddenly see everything hidden within it.

He saw countless streams of black water, gathering and flowing, spilling out through cracks in the darkness.

Wen Yan stared blankly at the Soul Devouring Beast. That’s impossible: the hint said this beast was invincible, nothing could hurt it. So why did it feel weak?

Last time, just sensing the Soul Devouring Beast gave him this huge, crushing pressure, like it would make you feel totally powerless.

It was like it was slowly chewing on something, savoring every bite.

This time, it was totally different.

Suddenly, Wen Yan sensed a calling—a far-off feeling coming from the Soul Devouring Beast itself.

It was hungry.

...

Daylight was fading. Wen Yan was still deeply asleep, his brows knitted even in his dreams.

Little Zombie poked her lily-bun head out at the doorway, quietly slipping half her little face into view, watching Wen Yan sleep. Then she tiptoed downstairs.

Behind her, Sparrow Cat trailed with drooping ears, listless, sticking close.

Once they reached downstairs, Little Zombie continued babbling, and Sparrow Cat—ever the unfeeling translation cat—interpreted.

”She says she wants to make a phone call.”

”Oh, for crying out loud, little ancestor, what kind of stunt is this now? I’m already not making you sleep in your little coffin.”

”She says if you don’t let her make the call, she’ll just call herself, and will say you’re bullying her.”

Zhang Laoxi gave up, pulled out his phone, found the number in his contacts, and hit dial, putting it on speaker on the table.

”Hello? Ah, Junior Brother Liu? Is Grand Uncle Master there? Please have Grand Uncle Master pick up.”

A moment later, Grand Uncle Master’s somewhat uncertain voice sounded from the phone.

”You’re being bullied?”

Zhang Laoxi was stumped—Grand Uncle Master actually asked that?

Wasn’t he always the one to ask, ’Did you cause trouble?’ first?

Before Zhang Laoxi could answer, Little Zombie started to cry, and after she finished, dragged Sparrow Cat over for translation.

”She says she was attacked by zombies. If it hadn’t been for her clothes blocking the blow, she would’ve nearly died.

Later she saw tons more zombies, all up to no good.”

On the other end, as soon as Grand Uncle Master heard this, he started to get a headache. He knew full well what kind of character those Great Zombies sent down from Fuyu Mountain were.

But he couldn’t do much—those Great Zombies were officially under Fuyu Mountain’s authority. To be more precise, Taoists from Fuyu Mountain, once strong enough, could take a zombie to be their partner.

Not as a tool, but as a partner.

As for the ones not chosen? Well, officially, or at least for outsiders, they belonged to Fuyu Temple.

If it was someone else, Grand Uncle Master might have had some words, but this Little Zombie being bullied by zombies—he honestly didn’t know how to respond. The old man’s headache got worse.

”...Also, those zombies tried to hurt her brother. If you don’t help, she’ll just come back herself and report you.”

At this, Grand Uncle Master suddenly froze, his headache abruptly easing.

”Which brother?”

”She just calls him brother. He’s really good to her. Carries her all the time, even bought her a really pretty chair, eats with her every day, always feeds her. She absolutely doesn’t want any zombies bullying her brother.”

Grand Uncle Master took his hand off his forehead.

Funny thing, but his headache just... vanished.

He thought for a moment, then slammed the table hard.

”People outside slander Fuyu Mountain every day, but that’s because our disciples can’t compete, aren’t good enough, nothing else to say about it.

But whatever, letting others pick on us is one thing—getting bullied by zombies? No way we’re putting up with that.

If we really did, the whole Fuyu Mountain might as well go bash our heads against the ancestor’s tombstone!”
