I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Rattle, Fishing

Wen Yan gave Feng Yao a call, telling him to come over, there was something to discuss.

After hanging up, he looked at Uncle Mo, who had already turned into a black-haired zombie; this time, he really owed his life to Uncle Mo.

Big Executor Corpse not only evolved at a ridiculous speed, its regeneration was insane, and its strength far surpassed ordinary zombies. Except for lacking spiritual intelligence, there were practically no other weaknesses.

Previously, Wen Yan had thought all zombies were this powerful; only after hearing Zhang Laoxi speak with undisguised envy did he realize that Big Executor Corpse was an extremely rare exception.

Ordinary zombies, at the same level, were nowhere near as strong as Big Executor Corpse.

An ordinary zombie’s process of growing stronger was actually quite slow: lying in a grave, absorbing the earth’s energy, naturally developing, usually taking decades to evolve from Walking Dead to Hopping Corpse.

But the good thing was that ordinary zombies didn’t have a lifespan limit.

As for Big Executor Corpse, being this strong came with a price: its time of demise was set early on.

”Uncle, come with me, I’ll take you to your room.” Wen Yan spoke with utmost politeness.

He turned and headed toward the basement, Uncle Mo following behind, eyes shut.

They arrived at the empty basement. Even in the daytime, there was a cold, damp feeling down here, but actually, this was the perfect environment for a zombie.

”Uncle, you’ll stay here for now. This is best for you.”

Uncle Mo stood in the corner, eyes shut and motionless, strictly obeying Wen Yan’s previous words: don’t move unless called. All his power was withdrawn, and he didn’t budge an inch.

If it weren’t for that coat of fine, black hair covering him, glinting faintly with a metallic sheen, you’d never be able to tell he was a black-haired zombie just from his closed eyes.

Wen Yan was just about to leave when Zhang Laoxi followed him down, carrying the incense table and burner, arranging offerings, lighting incense, raising it above his head and making ritual bows, banging out a full eighteen prostrations.

”Uncle, I keep my promises!”

After bowing, Zhang Laoxi stood up and stuck the incense into the burner.

On one hand, he was truly grateful to Uncle Mo; on the other hand, he was honestly a little scared—what if he broke his word and got remembered for it?

Don’t be fooled by how Uncle Mo seemed to have no spiritual intelligence—what if, though?

When you promise the dead something, it’s always best to keep it.

Wen Yan hesitated to speak, having a pretty good guess about what Zhang Laoxi previously said. He, too, lit three sticks of incense and bowed respectfully to Uncle Mo.

”Uncle, I met someone this time, probably from the same organization as that con artist, but she doesn’t know me—maybe she isn’t on the same side as him.

Even though I didn’t get any direct evidence, at least the clues are piling up. Just hang tight.”

It didn’t matter if Uncle Mo could understand; Wen Yan still updated him on the progress.

As the only teammate so far on their side with such overwhelmingly insane power, Wen Yan felt it necessary to maintain proper respect.

After settling Uncle Mo, Wen Yan and Zhang Laoxi returned to the living room on the first floor. Seeing the sun rising in the east, Wen Yan had a strange feeling: after Uncle Mo moved in, he finally felt able to relax.

Looks like he was right before—so long as his villa was the biggest problem in this community, all the other problems here were just minor nuisances he could ignore.

He glanced at the sunrise, mood lifted.

Wen Yan glanced upstairs.

”Sparrow Cat?”

Sparrow Cat weakly fluttered down from upstairs, the whole cat looking limp and shriveled.

”Could you be any more of a coward?”

”I’m not scared, okay? I heard something weird, like someone slipped a weapon to me, trying to egg me on to kill you! I’m fighting off some unknown force here!”

”Heh... so you dropped the weapon, curled yourself up, and flattened out on the floor, huh?”

”...” Sparrow Cat’s ears drooped in defeat. ”Why aren’t you asking me whether I really heard something?”

”My ears aren’t as sharp as yours—what’s the point in me doubting you?”

Sparrow Cat was left speechless, even it had to admit—it was just scared.

Zhang Laoxi took out his phone and started browsing food delivery. Wen Yan took one look and said,

”No need to order, just have Feng Yao bring something over when he comes.”

After the call, about half an hour later, Feng Yao’s car pulled up outside in the yard.

The group sat in the living room on the first floor, eating breakfast while Wen Yan recounted what happened.

”That’s basically it. The person in the short video is the Water Ghost—you can check who they are.

And that woman called Lady Lie, she’s definitely not human.

Based on my guess, she’s probably connected to Mo Zhicheng. That kind of fanaticism—she really gives me strong brainwashing vibes.

But she doesn’t know me, plus Mo Zhicheng’s old habits—his underlings are all expendable lackeys he tricks into service and discards when done.

She definitely isn’t working for Mo Zhicheng.

She’s seen me, and seen Sparrow Cat too, which could be risky.

If she reports about me, someone will probably check up on the fake name I gave.

By the way, how’s your internal review going? Found anyone else who’s been brainwashed?”

”Found another one. Got brainwashed over a year ago, and is absolutely convinced there’s a secret department inside the Scorching Sun Department.”

”What, so after the Royal Guards there’s Eastern Factory, then Western Factory after that, huh?”

Feng Yao looked a little helpless.

”Honestly, Scorching Sun Department itself is already a secret agency. He gave so many examples I almost believed there really is a smaller secret department inside Scorching Sun Department. Why’d you bring this up all of a sudden?”
