I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 85: Chapter 66 Negotiating Deals, Social Beating (5k)

Wen Yan casually made up an excuse, shutting Lady Lie up so she couldn’t keep asking.

Hey, I’m just messing around, what’s the problem?

He’d been curious before—since with short videos, no matter how far across the world, you could enter directly into the Water Ghost Domain.

But in this domain, if you come in at night, you have to leave from the point of entry once it gets light.

According to the Scorching Sun Department’s records on the three types of domains, if you haven’t left by now, things don’t end well.

This place isn’t like that inpatient ward domain from last time. There, you could just leave with no effort.

And after chatting with Wang Xueqi just now, from what she could vaguely recall, a lot of different races were dragged into the water by the power of the domain right at daybreak.

So all those demons and monsters coming from all over the world to the Water Ghost Domain could do was gather here and talk trash. The moment they left the Water Ghost Domain, they were right back where they’d come from—nothing substantial could be accomplished.

Lady Lie had told him herself: the main purpose of the Water Ghost Domain was to bypass Scorching Sun Department oversight and enter Duanzhou.

Now Wen Yan completely understood.

Lady Lie definitely knew all along that the Water Ghost Domain could actually link up with the Chemical Plant Domain.

Count it all up, and, turns out, all those monsters and spirits tricked from every corner of the world could actually be of use.

Maybe those guys weren’t good for much, but so long as there was a fight, they could play cannon fodder, draw attention, split up firepower—and incidentally dump a ton of hatred onto the Scorching Sun Department.

Wen Yan’s main reason for coming today was to talk with Lady Lie, and he’d timed it just right.

Who knew he’d timed it so perfectly he’d get caught up in things himself, get shuttled over to the Chemical Plant Domain for a tour, and end up letting Uncle gulp down a ton of XP.

Life, man. Unpredictable as ever.

Lady Lie actually had plenty of doubts, but didn’t dare ask more now; only seeing Uncle up close gave her a sense of that overwhelming pressure.

It was her first time seeing a zombie so calm, but so savage and ruthless once it started fighting.

When it wasn’t attacking, Uncle felt to her like an absolutely still pond of dead water—she couldn’t feel anything at all from him, not even the slightest ripple in his aura.

But she could see his appearance: that dense, jet-black hair covering every inch of his body, already fused into black armor—this was a Black-haired Zombie on the verge of a breakthrough.

To be able to control a Black-haired Zombie—one with the fiercest energy—so well, she’d honestly never even heard of it.

If she hadn’t witnessed it herself, up close, she’d never believe anyone could pull this off.

She’d been to the Chemical Plant Domain herself—seen those brainless zombies, knew what they were like. Even at the Haired Zombie level, with just a hint of spiritual intelligence and the ability to communicate, that was still only a rare few.

The majority of Haired Zombies operated on instinct, not intelligence, and below that, well, forget it.

Lady Lie thought of how Zhuge Wanjun had changed her asking price twice recently, both times raising it, and she really didn’t get it—she thought the price was too high.

Only today, after seeing Wen Yan chasing water ghosts around in their own turf, and realizing his guard was way scarier than she’d estimated, did she understand: she’d just been shortsighted, she didn’t have Wanjun’s guts.

Zhuge Wanjun had never even met them, still dared to ask for such a high price.

When she first saw Wen Yan just now, she’d thought he’d come in again because he was interested in cooperation.

She was still working out how to pitch an offer, how to negotiate, get through the first round of talks.

But now, her thinking shifted. She couldn’t help but wonder: Maybe he came back in for reasons that had nothing to do with profit—or the Soul Devouring Beast?

Like, maybe he just wanted to mess with things? For the thrill?

She’d seen a bit of the world following Zhuge Wanjun around—Zhuge Wanjun had gotten here by sheer brains and ability, charging her way into becoming a famous partner at South Wall Law Firm in Nanwu County. Not a small number of cases, not a small number of contacts.

Even among rich second-gens, there were plenty who, when they had nothing to worry about, would sometimes get mixed up in cases purely for the novelty, or for the adrenaline rush.

Lady Lie thought it over—Wen Yan really did seem to fit that type. Usually very low-key, very restrained, but would occasionally go looking for something exciting.

Like, maybe kill someone—while keeping Scorching Sun Department off his trail, free of suspicion.

Then ride out a period in sage mode, laying low for a while.

The more Lady Lie speculated, the more sense it made: last time they’d met, that droopy-eyed, whatever expression he had, plus remnants of death qi, yin qi, and ghost qi still drifting around him—it must’ve been right after one of his ”fun” little stints.

Seeing him again today, his whole vibe had changed—so full of yang energy, such firepower; he must have been cooped up for a few days this time.

Having thought this, Lady Lie gritted her teeth and said:

”Young Master Su, I’ve already reported to my superiors—they take this very seriously. If we can cooperate, they’ll definitely...”

”My people don’t really care about this stuff, don’t get the wrong idea. I’m only here on my own behalf.” Wen Yan gave a heads-up right away.

Then he continued:

”Besides, what’s in it for me?

The beast kings have nothing to do with us. We’re living just fine now—why would we get mixed up in this mess?

Anyway, have you guys even found the Soul Devouring Beast yet?”

”Not yet, but we do have a definite lead.” Lady Lie told the truth—she didn’t dare bluff about this.
