”Hello? Hello? Yuancheng! Yuancheng, what the hell is going on? Hello! Fuck!”

Meanwhile, in a high-end residential complex in Northern Mountain City, a bald man in his fifties turned pale and cursed out loud after hearing the busy signal on the other end of the line.

What kind of big trouble has he gotten into? And that person he mentioned… who was that? Only ten… ten seconds!?

The sudden turn of events, combined with the fearful tremble in his son’s voice over the phone, made Yang Bin feel as if his head was about to explode. He was completely clueless about what was happening, his mind a muddled mess.

This man was, in fact, none other than Yang Bin, the Director of the Organization Department of Northern Mountain City. He was also the biological father of Yang Yuancheng and Yang Cailing.

”Wait, he mentioned Uncle Zhu… could it be Zhu Qianye?” He couldn’t help but slam the table and rise to his feet, demanding furiously to the empty room, ”What the hell does that guy want?”

Zhu Qianye was no stranger to him, so why had he suddenly arrested his son? How could he not be furious?

”What about Zhu Qianye? What does he want? You don’t mean Zhu Qianye, the Chief of the Northern Mountain City Public Security Bureau, do you? Old Yang, what’s happened?” Hearing Yang Bin slam the table in a rage, a woman in her fifties with an aged face and thick, gaudy makeup walked in, asking with furrowed brows.

She was Yang Yuancheng’s mother, Xiao Hongfang of the Xiao Family Sideline.

”Yuancheng’s been arrested. It seems Zhu Qianye arrested him personally,” Yang Bin said.

His words caused her face to change drastically. Upon hearing her son had been captured, she shrieked, her face contorting so violently that most of her thick foundation shook off. ”What? Yuancheng was arrested? What does Zhu Qianye mean by this? Is he trying to cause trouble for our family?”

”How would I know what he means? Be quiet and let me think about what’s going on,” Yang Bin said through gritted teeth, his expression grim.

After all, Zhu Qianye wasn’t just some nobody. He was a powerhouse on the city committee, a man with status and standing identical to his own. And that wasn’t to mention that Zhu Qianye was backed by Mayor Huang Tao, the newly ascendant second-in-command in Northern Mountain City’s political arena.

For a man like that to suddenly make a move on his son was no trivial matter. Could it be… someone has it out for me and is looking for an opportunity to strike?

”Think? Think my ass! Call Zhu Qianye right now and ask him what he means! Our son has been taken, and you’re still in the mood to think? If you can’t handle this, then call my brother! I refuse to believe a mere Chief of the Public Security Bureau would dare to oppose my brother!” Xiao Hongfang shrieked.

Yang Yuancheng was her son, and her brother was the provincial Deputy Governor, Xiao Nanyun. For a mere city Public Security Bureau Chief to dare go after her son and ride roughshod over their family was something she, a woman accustomed to arrogance and insolence by leveraging her brother’s name, could never tolerate. In her fury, she even berated her own husband, showing him no dignity whatsoever.

Yang Bin’s face stiffened, but his timid nature kept him from retorting. He mumbled, ”Why are you shouting? Keep your voice down. I’ll call Zhu Qianye right now.”

Although Yang Bin was a prominent figure in Northern Mountain City—the esteemed Director of the Organization Department and a giant on the city committee—he owed a great deal of his success to his wife’s brother, Deputy Governor Xiao Nanyun, who had paved the way for his current position. As a result, in their home, Yang Bin was not the one with the final say. It was his wife, Xiao Hongfang, who called the shots. It might sound pathetic for a man of his stature to be in such a pitiful situation, but that was the reality.

Who could he blame? His wife’s brother was a Deputy Governor. And what did that title entail? It meant a provincial-level deputy, a major official with the authority to govern an entire region, an undisputed high-ranking officer in the province. He was far beyond anything Yang Bin could ever compare to. In fact, Yang Bin could only look up from below, barely able to touch such heights.

”I wasn’t yelling at you. I’m just agitated because our son was arrested,” Xiao Hongfang said, clearly aware she had gone too far. But as she spoke, her agitation began to rise again. ”Alright, stop dawdling and call Zhu Qianye. Tell him to release Yuancheng immediately. Otherwise, I’ll call my brother myself!”

Xiao Hongfang had only this one son, whom she doted on beyond measure, treasuring him as if he were too fragile for the world. The idea that he had been arrested was simply more than she could bear.
