Medical Sage

”Afei...” But just then, Zhang Long couldn’t help but hesitate. Indeed, Chen Fei had helped them solve a huge problem tonight, but now it seemed that problem had shifted onto Chen Fei himself. This made him feel incredibly guilty and worried.

After all, one could tell at a glance that a person like Yang Yuancheng was the persistently annoying type, not to mention extremely arrogant and spoiled. Having suffered such humiliation just a moment ago—being forced to kneel and call someone ”grandpa”—how could he possibly let the matter rest?

”Don’t worry about it, old friend. I wouldn’t have done this if I didn’t have my reasons,” Chen Fei said with a light chuckle. ”His elders are his elders, and Yang Yuancheng is Yang Yuancheng. We can’t conflate the two. Besides, that brat started it. We were just defending ourselves. What is there to fear?”

After all, he was a completely different person now. His identity as an official in a special department—at the department director level, no less—was enough to scare a whole host of people to death. The problem was, he couldn’t just casually present his credentials to Zhang Long one by one, could he?

”So, what do we do now...” Zhang Long and Zhao Le exchanged glances and asked helplessly.

”That kid definitely won’t let this go. He’ll certainly be back for revenge immediately,” Chen Fei said, stroking his chin. ”To wait for him at my leisure, I’ll stay here and see what new tricks he can pull. As for you two,” he added after a slight pause, ”you can leave first...”

”Then we’ll stay too!” Zhang Long immediately interrupted, speaking sternly. ”Today’s incident started because of us. If we leave now, what does that make us? I, Zhang Long, am not that kind of person. I can’t bring myself to do something so shameful!”

”Exactly!” Zhao Le immediately chimed in. Gritting her teeth, she added, ”I feel the same way. If we die, we die.”

”Die?” Chen Fei grinned, reassuring them. ”Don’t worry, and don’t overthink it. If I’m confident I can make that kid behave, it’s not because I’m being impulsive. In my eyes, he’s just a child. I can handle him however I please.”

Seeing this, Zhao Le and Zhang Long exchanged a look, their eyes filled with shock and excitement. They weren’t fools. They understood that for Chen Fei to have the confidence and courage to say such seemingly arrogant words, he couldn’t be bluffing. He must have some kind of assurance, some trump cards up his sleeve! Otherwise, no one would be so insane as to act this recklessly.

”Heh heh, just trust me,” Chen Fei chuckled. ”You two eat first. I’m going to step out and make a call.” He took out his phone and walked out of the private room.

「...」

Meanwhile, in a large banquet hall on another floor of the Peony Hotel, Zhu Qianye, the Director of the Northern Mountain City Public Security Bureau, was in the middle of a meal when his phone suddenly rang. A look of confusion crossed his face. He pulled out the phone, and his frown deepened. An unknown number? Who could it be? This is my private phone, not my work number. I rarely get calls from strangers.

”Old Zhu, what’s the matter? A call?” Mayor Huang Tao asked with a chuckle, his face flushed from having had a few drinks.

Zhu Qianye shook his head and replied with a faint smile, ”It’s probably a spam call. No idea who it is...” As he spoke, he gestured with the phone for everyone at the table to see.

Upon seeing this, Zhuo Qun showed a look of commiseration and shook his head helplessly. ”Those people are like leeches, calling at all hours. I have no idea how they’re so resourceful as to get my number, yet somehow they don’t know who I am. Honestly...” It was clear that this Secretary Zhuo Qun was also a frequent victim of such harassing calls, which left him feeling utterly exasperated.

”Wait, hold the phone steady, Old Zhu, let me see. Isn’t that...”

Just then, Mayor Huang Tao, who had been slightly tipsy, caught a glimpse of the caller ID. He jolted as if struck by lightning, the effects of the alcohol vanishing in an instant. A shiver ran through him as he exclaimed, ”Quick, Old Zhu, answer it! It’s Mr. Chen! That’s Chen Fei, Mr. Chen’s number!”

Of course! Mayor Huang Tao had long since memorized the number of an extraordinary person like Chen Fei; he recognized it at a glance. This was no joke. Chen Fei had left in the middle of the banquet, saying he had something to do and even taking his son with him. Now he was suddenly calling... Even if the mayor was slow on the uptake, he knew something must have happened!

”Ah, it’s a call from Mr. Chen?” Zhu Qianye was startled as well. His hand holding the phone trembled slightly. Without even a moment to reply to Secretary Zhuo, he decisively pressed the answer key.

”Hello, Mr. Chen, this is Zhu Qianye,” he said respectfully. ”What are your instructions?”

”I’m sorry to trouble you, Director Zhu, but I’m afraid I have something I need you to handle for me.” Chen Fei’s voice came through the phone, causing Huang Tao and the others to tense up instantly.

”Mr. Chen, this is Zhuo Qun,” the Secretary interjected, offering to go himself. ”What happened? Do you need me, Comrade Qianye, and Mayor Huang to come over?”

Originally, he’d assumed that Chen Fei, however capable, had simply earned Elder Xunn’s favor through his exceptional medical skills. But after a heartfelt talk with Mayor Huang at the table, he realized things weren’t so simple. It seemed very likely that Chen Fei was an Ancient Martial Artist, and his level of strength was probably anything but ordinary...

”No, no, that’s not necessary. It’s just a small squabble between youngsters. There’s no need for Secretary Zhuo or Uncle Huang to make a special trip; that would be too much of a spectacle,” Chen Fei said, quickly dismissing the idea over the phone. ”It’s enough if you come over, Director Zhu. Hmm, it would be best if you brought a few people from the Public Security Bureau.”

”Alright then, I’ll bring some people over right away. May I know where you are now, Mr. Chen?” Zhu Qianye asked, his eyes flashing as he exchanged glances with Mayor Huang and Secretary Zhuo.

”I’m at xxx... Sorry for the trouble, Director Zhu. I still need to prepare a few things on my end, so I’ll hang up for now. I’ll text you in a moment.” After revealing his location, Chen Fei hung up with a chuckle.

”...He hung up.”

Only when the phone began to emit a busy tone did Zhu Qianye feel a cold sweat break out on his forehead. His voice was a mixture of excitement and anxiety. He was excited, of course, that Chen Fei had entrusted him, Zhu Qianye, with a task. It clearly meant that he had made a lasting impression. At the same time, however, he was worried. If the situation was ”too big” or if he handled it improperly, it would be incredibly troublesome.
