Just then, a pair of strong hands landed on his shoulders. Secretary Zhuo Qun spoke with a grave expression, ”Comrade Qianye, since Mr. Chen has spoken, it would be inappropriate for Mayor Huang and me to go over. However, rest assured that you can proceed with full confidence in whatever needs to be done. We’ll be watching closely and will absolutely step in if necessary. You can count on that.”

”That’s right, Old Zhu. Secretary Zhuo is giving you a dose of reassurance in advance,” Huang Tao remarked, displaying a rare solemnity. ”Whatever the issue or task, go ahead with confidence! I trust Mr. Chen’s character; he wouldn’t ask you to do anything illegal or against regulations. There’s surely a reason behind it.”

”I understand. Secretary Zhuo, Mayor Huang, don’t worry. I know what must be done.”

Being cheered on by the city’s top two leaders, Zhu Qianye’s confidence instantly surged. He slowly stood to take his leave. ”Well then, I’ll be on my way. I’ll make a call and head over immediately.”

”Go on, and remember to adapt as needed,” Secretary Zhuo said slowly. Zhu Qianye nodded slightly, taking out his mobile phone as he stood and dialing a number.

A moment later, the call connected. Zhu Qianye adopted an authoritative demeanor, speaking in an unequivocal tone. ”Hello, Cheng Cheng? It’s me, Zhu Qianye. I am ordering you to bring your men to the Peony Hotel immediately—you have half an hour to get here! Understood?”

Cheng Cheng, the captain of the Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Northern Mountain City Public Security Bureau, was one of Zhu Qianye’s most capable subordinates.

With such a ’major’ incident occurring, it was only natural that he would think of his most trusted aide first, ordering him to bring men over at once.

”Yes, Director Zhu! I’ll bring my people over right away.”

A crisp, decisive voice came from the receiver before the call swiftly ended.

「Meanwhile」

Bald Eagle, the renowned underworld boss of Northern Mountain’s Sea River District, had also set out with a group of his men for the Peony Hotel.

This was no laughing matter. Tonight, the son of the minister of the Municipal Organization Department had personally called him for help. If he didn’t seize this incredible opportunity, he, Bald Eagle, would be a true fool! After all, the Municipal Organization Department was in charge of official appointments. If he could handle this well and earn Young Master Yang’s favor, a little push from him would be all it took. Then wouldn’t he, Bald Eagle, have someone powerful backing him in Northern Mountain?

About half an hour later, Bald Eagle arrived at the Peony Hotel with his followers. His eyes immediately fell on the ’prominent target’ outside the hotel. His expression shifted, and he hurried over, his voice tense. ”Young Master Yang, I’m here. Your face… what happened?”

This was the son of the city’s Minister of the Organization Department, a man with a hugely influential background. Yet now, his face was beaten and swollen like a pig’s head. No wonder he sounded so resentful on the phone; there really was a reason for it!

”Perfect timing, Brother Bald Eagle. You see my face… that person is still inside the hotel. Tell me, what should we do?” Seeing the man, Yang Yuancheng felt as if he’d seen his savior. His face darkened as he spoke coldly.

”How outrageous! The audacity! To lay a hand on you, Young Master Yang? Do they not want to live in Northern Mountain anymore? Let’s go, Young Master Yang! I, Bald Eagle, will make sure you get your revenge! We’ll teach that person a lesson,” Bald Eagle declared, his voice resonating with righteous indignation.

”Very good. Follow me… Wait, there they are! They’re coming out! Brother Bald Eagle, quick! Get those three mongrels for me! I’ll make them pay for what they did!” Yang Yuancheng nodded in satisfaction. He had intended for Bald Eagle to lead his men into the hotel to grab them, but unexpectedly, Chen Fei and his two friends were walking out. Yang Yuancheng’s face contorted with fury as he shouted his command.

”Them? Rest assured, Young Master Yang. With me, Bald Eagle, here today, those evildoers won’t escape. There’s nowhere for them to run! We will see that justice is done for you, the victim, and restore peace and order to society!” Bald Eagle announced loudly in a mock-righteous tone. His eyes followed Yang Yuancheng’s gaze as he gestured to his men, setting them in motion.

”Be careful. That kid’s pretty skilled. Don’t screw this up and let him get away!” Yang Yuancheng warned, his eyes flashing with malice.

”Skilled?” Bald Eagle scoffed. ”Young Master Yang, you know what we’re about. Who cares how skilled he is? Can he take a knife? I say we grab him first, haul him out to some desolate mountain, and then you can get your revenge however you want. It’ll be as simple as saying the word, won’t it?”

”Excellent. That’s perfect. As expected of you, Brother Bald Eagle, you think of everything! Once we have that kid, I’ll make him wish for death, but I’ll never let him have it! Just you wait!” Yang Yuancheng was both satisfied and invigorated, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

”Heh, you flatter me, Young Master Yang. We’re just removing a menace for the public, eradicating a social cancer!” Bald Eagle replied with a fawning chuckle. His sharp eyes then gleamed with smug satisfaction, clearly pleased with his own words.

He turned and signaled his followers. Immediately, five or six tattooed, burly men in black suits aggressively approached Chen Fei, Zhang Long, and Zhao Le, prompting nearby pedestrians to scatter.

”Get back! Move it! This is a private matter. Don’t be an idiot and get in the way!” one of them bellowed, causing many people to retreat in fear.

”They’re coming, Chen Fei…” Seeing the men approach, both Zhang Long and Zhao Le trembled slightly, their eyes filled with fear and worry. The latter couldn’t help but speak up.

”It’s fine. Let them come. We were waiting for them,” Chen Fei replied with a slight frown and a dismissive smile.

”Well now, look what we have here. You’ve got some nerve, hitting Young Master Yang,” Bald Eagle sneered as he approached. Seeing that Chen Fei’s group was just three young men made him even more contemptuous. ”Come on. Let’s go somewhere else for a private chat.”

At the same time, the five or six tattooed men in black suits spread out to surround them. They reached into their waistbands, and the glint of knives flashed in the light.

Zhang Long and Zhao Le grew frantic, their voices trembling. ”Chen… Chen Fei, they have knives! Knives…”

Knives? Chen Fei glanced at the ferociously sneering Bald Eagle and then at the distant Yang Yuancheng, who was staring daggers at him. Expressionless, he said calmly, ”Go somewhere else for a private chat? Why bother? Isn’t right here fine?”

At his words, Bald Eagle’s face darkened. He stared at Chen Fei and said, ”Kid, you’re pretty calm. But do you really think you can scare me by putting on an act?”

”Brother Bald Eagle, why waste your breath on him? Hurry up and take him away! If I don’t kill you later, my name isn’t Yang Yuancheng!” Yang Yuancheng strode forward, his face twisted with malice as he spoke to Bald Eagle, his eyes fixed on Chen Fei with a chilling glint.

SLAP!

A crisp slapping sound rang out, stunning everyone.

”It seems you forgot what I told you. A rotten mouth will fester and swell,” Chen Fei said coldly. He had slapped Yang Yuancheng hard across the face, knocking out a mouthful of teeth and sending blood flying. He then scoffed disdainfully at the man, who was spinning in place from the force of the blow.

”You, you, you… I’m gonna kill ya!” Young Master Yang could barely speak clearly, but his expression grew even more savage, even more furious. He turned and shrieked madly at Bald Eagle, ”What the hell are you just standing there watching for? Are your hands frozen?! Move! Grab him and take him away! I want him dead!”

SLAP!

Another slap rang out. Chen Fei completely ignored his ravings and struck him again, just as hard.

HISS!

”This… this…”

Zhao Le and Zhang Long were dumbfounded.

The crowd of onlookers was also stunned.

The thugs, along with Bald Eagle himself—the big shot from Sea River District—all looked utterly bewildered. They clearly never expected this kid to be completely unafraid of them, even when they were right here holding knives. He just struck when he pleased. Damn, those were some solid slaps, no hesitation at all.

However, Bald Eagle’s expression quickly turned grim as he stared at Chen Fei. If Young Master Yang was hit again on his watch, he wouldn’t be able to explain it. Besides, by completely ignoring him, the kid was showing Bald Eagle zero respect.
