This Life, I'm Raising the Right Man

Zhou Wangshu saw Su Yaoguang peeking and tossed something into the sedan chair.

Su Yaoguang looked and, to her surprise, it was a piece of cake.

”Eat something, it might be a while before we have dinner.”

Su Yaoguang smiled and nibbled at it.

Her makeup today was beautiful, especially her lipstick, a new shade she had concocted herself that wasn’t yet available on the market—no one else had it.

The sound of drums and gongs filled the air, creating a festive atmosphere.

Among the crowd, Xiao Yanci clenched his fists in envy, glaring at Zhou Wangshu.

In his previous life, it was he who married Su Yaoguang and had smooth sailing. In this life, it was Zhou Wangshu who married Su Yaoguang and excelled effortlessly in the imperial examinations.

Su Yaoguang was a lucky star; whoever married her would receive great fortune. It was vexing that he only now understood this truth.

After the bridal sedan returned to Taoyao Square, the next ceremonies began.

Zhang Zhaodi sat at the head, waiting for her daughter and son-in-law to bow to her.

Her eyes reddened as she looked at the beautiful couple before her, memories of past hardships flashing through her mind like a carousel.

”The ceremony is complete, escort them to the bridal chamber.”

The matchmaker and others escorted Su Yaoguang into the bridal chamber.

Zhou Wangshu used the wedding rod to lift the veil and gazed at the beautiful bride before him.

Today, Su Yaoguang was especially charming.

She lifted her head slightly, smiling at Zhou Wangshu with a hint of unease on her face.

Zhou Wangshu shared a ceremonial drink with her and had Jiang Jing and Jia Chunni stay to chat with her while he went out to drink with the guests.

The attendees were mostly neighbors and acquaintances, as well as many merchants looking to curry favor with the new top graduate. They were all warmly received.

In the bridal chamber, Jia Chunni said to Su Yaoguang, ”Sister, it’s so lively today. You’re so beautiful, and brother-in-law is very handsome. Everyone says you’re really lucky!”

”You’re mistaken; it’s brother-in-law who’s lucky to marry such a wonderful sister,” Jiang Jing said. ”Sis, if he bullies you, we’ll help you deal with him.”

”Oh, you two, don’t you see who’s more capable of bullying whom?” Su Yaoguang replied. ”With his small frame, I’d knock him out with one punch.”

”You’re right,” Jia Chunni said, handing her a chicken leg. ”Eat more and replenish your energy, otherwise you won’t have the strength later.”

Su Yaoguang: ”... What won’t I have strength for?”

”Brother-in-law went to drink, and he’ll definitely get drunk. If you don’t eat till you’re full, you’ll have no strength to carry him later.”

Su Yaoguang patted her chest. ”You scared me.”

Su Yaoguang chatted idly with her two sisters, and before they knew it, time had flown by, and they vaguely heard someone approaching.

Two male attendants helped Zhou Wangshu inside.

”Is brother-in-law drunk?” Jia Chunni asked.

”Yes, he drank quite a bit. You’ll have to take care of him.”

Jiang Jing felt Zhou Wangshu’s pulse, glanced at him, and said to Su Yaoguang, ”Sister, brother-in-law is drunk. You take care of him. We’ll head out now.”

”Alright.”

Once everyone else left, the newlyweds were alone in the room.

But to say they were newlyweds wasn’t entirely accurate. After all, the marriage contract had been signed years ago, and they’d consummated the marriage shortly before; today was just to hold the celebratory feast.

Su Yaoguang helped Zhou Wangshu to bed, took off his shoes, and began to undress him.

As she untied his belt, Zhou Wangshu grabbed her clothing and pulled her into an embrace, holding her waist tightly. ”Wife, give me a kiss.”

Su Yaoguang said, teasingly, ”If you’re not drunk, undress yourself.”

Zhou Wangshu’s alcohol tolerance was low; earlier, his scent of alcohol had concerned her, leading her to believe he was truly intoxicated. Now it seemed that the rascal had cleverly spilled alcohol on himself.

Zhou Wangshu cuddled her and nuzzled against her neck, pouting, ”My head hurts; please massage it for me, darling.”

Seeing him in discomfort, Su Yaoguang reached out to massage his head. ”How does this feel?”

She had learned some massage techniques from Jiang Jing and often massaged Zhang Zhaodi’s head.

Zhou Wangshu closed his eyes, enjoying the sensation.

Su Yaoguang observed as his eyes drifted closed and his breathing steadied, thinking he had fallen asleep.

She released her hand, tucked him in with a blanket, and was about to get up and drink some water when Zhou Wangshu caught her wrist.

”Wife, where are you going?”

”You’re not asleep?”

”Tonight is our wedding night, and we haven’t completed the most important task; how could I be asleep?” Zhou Wangshu suddenly sat up and kissed her lips.

Su Yaoguang grasped his clothing, supporting herself.

Zhou Wangshu rolled with her in his arms, holding her closer for a deeper kiss.

The night was tranquil, profound, and unending. The birds outside the window chirped melodiously all night long, as if narrating the night’s beauty.
