Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2893: Chapter 2829: Quite Awkward

Twenty tables, so many people, giving each a five yuan return gift, that’s quite a sum.

”What? Isn’t this just to save face for you guys? I learned this from The South, giving a five yuan red envelope as a return gift to guests. They feel like they’ve gotten some of their gift money back, which makes them feel much better. They’ll think the groom is generous and won’t make jokes about you not marrying well.”

Mother Du looked as if she had gone to great lengths.

Du Jinruo clasped her arm, leaning in, ”Yes, yes, Mom, I know you mean well for me. I’ll always remember that.”

”As long as you remember,” Mother Du said, ”Don’t forget, you were originally meant to marry into the Gao Family or the Fong Family. Gao Wei was quite good too, I don’t know why you never liked him.”

What Mother Du didn’t say was, if she hadn’t heard that Gao Wei had mental issues, she wouldn’t have agreed to let Du Jinruo marry Kuang Yunxian.

How could Kuang Yunxian compare with the Gao Family? No comparison, absolutely none.

However, with the relations between the Gao Family and the Fong Family currently awkward, Gao Wei’s mental issues made him unsuitable for marriage, and Fong Jianye was naturally out of the question to avoid offending Gao Wei’s father, Gao Ming.

This was a path that reached a dead end with no options.

Only then did Father Du and Mother Du agree to let Du Jinruo marry Kuang Yunxian.

At her age, if she waited any longer, she’d truly become an old maid, laughed at by others.

So, there was no choice.

But of course, she wouldn’t say this directly to Kuang Yunxian or Du Jinruo, so she often brought it up with Kuang Yunxian, saying that Du Jinruo could have married into families like the Fong Family or the Gao Family.

Marrying him was marrying down, showing favor to him, so he must cherish her properly.

And by cherishing, of course, that means listening well to the Du Family and fulfilling all their requests.

”Mom, stop mentioning the Fong Family and the Gao Family,” Du Jinruo took a deep breath, ”Bringing it up all the time would make Yunxian feel bad.”

”Alright, alright, I won’t mention it.”

”But, Xiao Ruo, can Yunxian really fill those four tables on his side?” Father Du was worried about this issue.

With over twenty tables, they required Kuang Yunxian to have at least four tables of guests, otherwise, with such a weak family presence, he’d surely be ridiculed.

Can’t let everyone see a hall full of Du Family relatives, can we?

Wouldn’t that look like he was marrying into their family?

Don’t think they were eager for a son-in-law to marry in, as even the Du Family would lose face that way.

At the mention of this matter, Du Jinruo also felt a bit worried.

These days, Kuang Yunxian was extremely busy and hadn’t had time to meet her, saying he was delivering invitations.

Du Jinruo had asked him who he was inviting, and he did mention a few families.

If he could actually invite those families, it would save face and not look so bad.

Right now, she’s just unsure if those people would come.

There’s also the matter of Tang Qing, Chen Yin, and Old Meng attending, which makes her somewhat embarrassed.

And she worried whether Jiang Xiao would come or not.

It would be better if Jiang Xiao didn’t come, because if Jiang Xiao did, Du Jinruo didn’t know if she could keep calm.

She’s always felt there was nothing wrong with marrying Kuang Yunxian, but for some reason, the thought of Jiang Xiao witnessing her wedding to Kuang Yunxian left her with a sense of defeat.
