Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2881: Chapter 2817: Why Kill Her

As she spoke, she couldn’t help shivering a little, as if she were a bit scared.

”He said, ’I understand. Then I’ll find a way to deal with this myself.’”

Jiang Xiao and Ding Haijing were both taken aback.

Just that one sentence?

What was so strange about a sentence like that?

Yet it was enough to scare Ji Qin like this.

Ji Qin looked at them and said, ”You also think there’s nothing suspicious about that sentence, don’t you?”

Ding Haijing and Jiang Xiao both nodded.

”But what if I tell you that the next day at noon, that photographer fell from upstairs and broke his leg?” Ji Qin shot back.

Ding Haijing’s brows knit at once; he exchanged a look with Jiang Xiao.

Ji Qin let out a light breath.

”I haven’t told anyone about this except you two, because I don’t have any evidence. It’s all just my own speculation. If I say it out loud, maybe no one will believe me, and I’m also afraid I really am overthinking things and end up wronging someone. But after seeing how Dai Zhongwen behaved today, I thought it over again and again, and still felt I needed to tell you this directly.”

Ji Qin looked at Jiang Xiao, then raised her hand. ”I can swear, everything I’ve said is true. I didn’t make anything up, and I’ve never had any personal grudge with Dai Zhongwen.”

”She’s telling the truth,” Ding Haijing said to Jiang Xiao. ”She’s not lying.”

Jiang Xiao knew that Ding Haijing had this kind of intuition, that he could sense whether someone was lying or not.

But Ji Qin didn’t know that; she just thought Ding Haijing genuinely believed her. That feeling of being trusted was wonderful!

Her heart stirred slightly; she nodded gratefully to Ding Haijing and broke into a big smile.

”Mm, I understand. I also believe Reporter Ji is telling the truth.” Jiang Xiao paused, then asked, ”Didn’t Reporter Ji ask that injured colleague how exactly he fell from upstairs at the time?”

”That’s where it gets strange. I did ask him. He said he was a bit hazy at the time himself, and he wasn’t really sure how he fell at all!”

Huh?

Now that really was a bit odd.

He didn’t even know how he fell down the stairs himself?

Was there an external force at the time, or did he misstep on his own? How could he not tell the difference?

To be honest, whenever Jiang Xiao heard about someone falling from upstairs, she always felt a bit uncomfortable inside, because it reminded her of how she’d fallen to her death from upstairs in her previous life.

She had been a bit dazed then herself, but she could still feel that someone had shoved her from behind at that moment.

It was just that she hadn’t had time to see clearly who it was that pushed her.

As for the people from that institute, they definitely hadn’t wanted her dead, because she was an important piece of prey to them. They couldn’t wait to keep her safe and bring her back in one piece, so why would they want her life?

So the person who pushed her was highly suspicious as well. To this day, she still hadn’t figured out why that person wanted her dead.

Could it be that person wasn’t from the institute?

Could they have been an undercover agent sent by another organization—Dragon King’s side wanted to capture her alive for research, but the other side didn’t want her to fall into Dragon King’s hands, so they took advantage of the chaos to push her down the stairs and kill her?

”What are you thinking about?”

Jiang Xiao snapped back to herself and saw Ding Haijing looking at her with a hint of concern.

Jiang Xiao had suddenly zoned out, and her expression didn’t look so good. He was genuinely worried.

”Oh, it’s nothing.”
