Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2880: Chapter 2816: Something’s Not Quite Right

”How old is Dai Zhongwen?” Ding Haijing suddenly asked.

Today, when Jiang Xiao went down to take photos, Ding Haijing waited in the car. Since it was inside the art academy, he felt more at ease, especially with so many people accompanying her.

But he hadn’t expected that any issues would arise from the group following her.

”Twenty-two, still very young.”

Twenty-two, indeed still very young.

Jiang Xiao was a bit surprised, ”I thought he looked twenty-seven or twenty-eight, turns out he’s only twenty-two?”

It wasn’t that she was perceiving him as older, but rather Dai Zhongwen genuinely seemed around twenty-seven or twenty-eight, nearly thirty. Especially his eyes, which had the look of someone with considerable experience, not like the eyes of someone in their early twenties.

She couldn’t quite explain the distinction; it was perhaps just a gut feeling.

”Yes, he claims he’s twenty-two,” Ji Qin said. ”I initially thought he was almost thirty and even asked him how old his child was. You know, nearing thirty, he ought to be married with children.”

”He indeed looks quite mature.”

”Many young ladies at our newspaper don’t think so; they find him quite handsome.”

”Then, what seemed off to you?” Ding Haijing interrupted them; why had the conversation veered into discussing whether he looked older?

He asked about the age to assess whether this person might have any intentions toward Jiang Xiao.

These two, however, had veered off topic.

Ji Qin sheepishly pulled the conversation back on track.

”Here’s the thing: initially, our interview with Xiao Chiang was supposed to be conducted by me and another photographer. That photographer is quite renowned; his recent work won an award. I admire his work and skills greatly, and he was very interested in Xiao Chiang’s paintings. This was originally a plan by the two of us to conduct an exclusive interview with Xiao Chiang.”

Ji Qin paused, then said, ”But, somehow, after we had everything prepared, Dai Zhongwen suddenly approached the president, expressing his keen interest in the exclusive interview, convincing the president to reassign our original photographer to another project, and replace him with Dai Zhongwen.”

Jiang Xiao was taken aback.

Ding Haijing glanced at her.

So that means, Dai Zhongwen is entirely targeting her, isn’t he?

This immediately heightened his vigilance.

Like he always said, Jiang Xiao is someone who attracts people and trouble; sometimes, even without doing anything, trouble just seeks her out.

”This isn’t particularly unusual,” Ji Qin added, ”Xiao Chiang is very popular, and many at our newspaper idolize her. There are many who want to conduct this exclusive interview, so if Dai Zhongwen merely asked for it, I wouldn’t find it odd.”

Upon hearing that, Jiang Xiao raised an eyebrow.

So, is there something peculiar about this?

”What I found strange is that our original photographer objected; he was genuinely looking forward to this exclusive interview. So when the president told him, he outright refused, as it was initially a plan by both of us, and the president was hesitant to forcefully reassign him to let Dai Zhongwen replace him. Then, two afternoons ago, I overheard part of Dai Zhongwen’s conversation with the president. They were finishing up, and I only caught Dai Zhongwen saying...”
