Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2231: Chapter 2167: A Major Discovery

Chiang Xiao bought groceries and hurried home to cook.

Ah Liu was still in the study looking at something. She took a glance and then stepped out.

It wasn’t until she finished cooking and went to call him for dinner that Ah Liu closed the thick account book, rubbed his eyes, and came out.

”Dad, you weren’t looking at it all morning, were you?”

”I indeed looked at it all morning, and I made a big discovery.”

”What big discovery?”

”I’ve been looking at old account books, starting from twenty-five years ago. I discovered someone had been secretly diverting money, here a bit, there a bit, and then creating smokescreens to cover the traces. But there were still clues. Adding it all up until the year before last, do you know how much money that is?”

”How much?”

Chiang Xiao then realized he had been investigating the old account books of the Jiang Family all along, and starting from twenty-five years ago, what a massive undertaking that must be.

No wonder he seemed so busy even though he didn’t leave the house every day.

”Money back then and now is different, of course, but all totaled, it’s over 3.3 million!”

”Cough, cough, cough!”

Chiang Xiao was also choked by that number.

This was the 1980s! By the year before last, would that be 1984? Going back from 1984, the 60s and 70s, someone could siphon off over 3 million?

What a huge sum of money that was!

Nowadays, having 100,000 meant a wealthy family already.

Let alone in the past?

”To skim off so much money from the Jiang Family, it could only be done by those who held real power, and it couldn’t be achieved by just one person. The partners in business surely helped too.”

Ah Liu sat down at the dining table and said, ”Also, over these many years, those at the Jiang Family never moved out, nor did they buy expensive real estate outside. They didn’t have opportunities to spend big money. So where did the money go? With such an appetite, they couldn’t have just hidden the money away to admire it.”

Chiang Xiao served him a bowl of soup, and her mind turned, understanding what he meant.

”Dad, are you saying that this money definitely went somewhere, was spent on some project, right?”

Ah Liu nodded, giving her an approving look.

”My Little is indeed smart.”

”Of course, after all, look whose daughter I am,” Chiang Xiao laughed, ”My intelligence definitely comes from Dad.”

Ah Liu laughed again.

”There’s some progress at least. Although these embezzlement projects seem irregular and were handled by different people, careful investigation will surely unveil a link. Once that link is found, we can catch that person, and by keeping an eye on him, we will also find out where the money went.”

Chiang Xiao continued, ”That person, having been active for so many years, indicates that he still holds some power within the Jiang Family, and the one who harmed Dad back then was likely him as well. Because he would surely be afraid of changes in the power structure if Dad took over the Jiang Family, which would affect him.”

”Right,” Ah Liu sighed and said, ”To catch that link, I must go to the Jiang Family. Relying solely on these account books won’t work.”

”Is that why Dad is eager to go back to the Jiang Family?”

In saying this, Chiang Xiao felt somewhat reluctant.

If Ah Liu went back, she would be very worried and concerned.

”I must return, Little. Think about why I said these account books are only up to the year before last? Because last year’s account books are no longer in Grandpa’s hands. They are deliberately trying to undermine your Grandpa’s power. If we don’t seize back the Jiang Family soon, and if they continue to meddle and cut off clues, it will be even harder to uncover this person.”
