Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2211: Chapter 2147: We Can’t Be Distant Anymore

Human selfishness and bias have once again taken the upper hand at this moment.

It is at this very moment that Ge Liutao truly lets go of Chen Zhu.

”I...”

Chiang Xiao takes another sip of tea, ”Grandma, this will be the last time I talk to you about Chen Zhu. I won’t mention it again in the future. Think it over yourself, and so should Grandpa.”

Chiang Songhai’s palms start to sweat slightly.

The indifference Chiang Xiao just showed made him feel a little tremble inside.

He suddenly realizes that their education has always been a failure. There’s no need to mention Chen Zhu, but for Chiang Xiao, making her into such a cold and tough child now — wasn’t that also their fault?

Because they never managed to protect her well, letting her suffer so much and endure so many injuries, and allowing her to witness too few good people and deeds, did her disposition become so cold.

Before today, he somewhat felt that Chiang Xiao’s personality was a bit too aloof, her heart a bit too hard, feeling this wasn’t good, fearing she’d live a hard life, and hold too many grudges against people.

But now he suddenly feels, wasn’t this fundamentally their fault, and besides, what’s wrong with the way Chiang Xiao is now?

If she had truly been like the two of them, who knows how bullied she would have been, and perhaps they wouldn’t even have today.

He recalls the year when Chiang Xiao was thirteen, when Ding Dani from the village pushed her into the Nameless Creek, he and Ge Liutao instead thought of selling everything to pay compensation to the Ding Family.

At that time, Chiang Xiao was still having a high fever, they had no money for medical treatment, yet they were considering compensating Ding Dani for a Dacron shirt.

If it weren’t for Chiang Xiao getting up and arguing with the Ding Family, proving her innocence and getting the Ding Family to compensate them, perhaps they wouldn’t have been able to get by.

Later, Chiang Xiao moved forward step by step, bringing them along, until today where they have lived a good life, forgetting the hardships of the past.

Chiang Songhai grasped Ge Liutao’s hand and said to Chiang Xiao, ”Little, it was Grandma and Grandpa who misunderstood, we understand now. Rest assured, we promise not to mention her again, her life is her business now. Oh Little, you must not become distant with Grandma and Grandpa.”

As he said this, his eyes reddened.

Chiang Xiao looked at him and sighed softly.

”Grandpa, it’s good that you think this way.”

Chiang Songhai squeezed Ge Liutao’s hand, indicating for her to express herself as well, so Ge Liutao quickly said, ”Little, Grandma understands her mistake too.”

Chiang Xiao nodded, ”You two should just live well from now on.”

Chiang Songhai hesitated for a moment, but decided to speak honestly to Chiang Xiao.

”There’s one more thing, Little. You see, although we now understand, living under the same roof with your dad makes us feel uncomfortable, it’s awkward for us. Grandma and I discussed if we could go back to City M first?”

He paused, glanced at Chiang Xiao, and worried that she might be angry, sighed and said, ”Grandpa knows, your dad just had surgery not long ago, we should be here to help take care of him, but...”

Chiang Xiao had already mentally prepared for them wanting to leave.

So she didn’t hesitate and immediately agreed.

”I can understand, Grandpa and Grandma. It’s okay on my father’s side, my school isn’t far, and he will be leaving in a few days as well. If you truly wish to return to City M, then go back.”

”You aren’t angry?” Chiang Songhai asked hesitantly.
