Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1545: Chapter 1547: Unfit to be the Main Wife

Last night, Xiao Fang came back and had a huge argument with him.

This had never happened before.

Over the past few years, although Xiao Fang had started to develop opinions about Chiang Qingzhu’s existence, it was clear that she had been tolerating it.

But last night, she couldn’t hold back any longer. She fought with him fiercely and even said she wanted a divorce, to vacate the position of Lady Kuang for Chiang Qingzhu.

When Kuang Kanzhi heard her mention divorce, he felt a moment of temptation.

However, he did have feelings for this wife. Ever since she had married him, Xiao Fang had managed every aspect of their household impeccably, allowing him to focus entirely on his scholarly pursuits.

In fact, many of the invitations and engagements he accepted were arranged and handled by Xiao Fang. Most of the Kuang family’s wealth and assets were thanks to her efforts.

Without Xiao Fang, perhaps the Kuang family would have already fallen into decline all these years.

What’s more, Xiao Fang came from a respectable background. Their union back then was a celebrated match in literary circles. Having a wife like Xiao Fang gave him face.

Though he felt pity and affection for Chiang Qingzhu in his heart, he also clearly understood that if Chiang Qingzhu became Lady Kuang, she wouldn’t be able to manage the household or uphold the Kuang family name.

Chiang Qingzhu simply couldn’t handle the matters inside and outside the family.

She lacked worldly knowledge. If she were really taken out into society, she would likely only make others stare in awe and praise her delicate beauty. But the moment she opened her mouth, she would undoubtedly make a fool of herself.

Some women are poised and talented, suited to be the principal wife, while others are born to be soft and fragile, leaning on a man’s chest, tenderly comforting and coaxing him.

Xiao Fang was the former.

Chiang Qingzhu was the latter.

Kuang Kanzhi didn’t want a divorce at all.

He himself knew that if he truly divorced Xiao Fang, he’d become a laughingstock in the literary circles of the Capital City. But he also didn’t want to simply cast Chiang Qingzhu aside. He couldn’t bear to part with the woman he’d cherished for so many years.

With Chiang Qingzhu, he felt a kind of pleasure—being depended on, being trusted, being admired. This kind of pleasure comforted him, even though he and Chiang Qingzhu had never consummated their relationship.

He needed Chiang Qingzhu too.

So, Kuang Kanzhi decided to help Chiang Qingzhu reconnect properly with her family.

After all, from what he knew, Chiang Xiao’s current reputation and standing were quite impressive.

If Chiang Qingzhu had Chiang Xiao and Meng Xinian as her backing, her reputation could be restored. In the future, Xiao Fang wouldn’t dare treat her poorly. And no matter what happened between him and Chiang Qingzhu, others wouldn’t see it as a shameful joke.

On the contrary, people might even envy him.

In the old days, so many men had multiple wives. Even his grandfather had three wives. Wouldn’t it be a delightful thing for him to have a close confidante as well?

Chiang Qingzhu was already accustomed to listening to him. Whatever he said, she would do.

”Father, Mother, I-I’d like to come see you first, alright? Then you can come with me to the Capital, and we’ll visit Little together. Would that be okay?” Chiang Qingzhu said timidly. ”If I go alone, I’m afraid Little won’t believe me, and... and I’m also afraid she’ll resent me.”

Listening to her words, Chiang Songhai couldn’t help but think of the little Chiang Qingzhu they had cherished and adored in the past. Back then, they simply couldn’t refuse any of her requests.

Besides, she was their biological daughter, after all, their own flesh and blood!

She was their precious daughter whom they had loved as their treasure. How could they not long to see her right away?

”Alright! Alright! Then hurry back, hurry back,” Chiang Songtao said, wiping away his tears.
