Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1525: Chapter 1527: Like a Nightmare

”Later, why did you run away again?” Chiang Xiao asked again.

Chiang Qingzhu looked at her with some sorrow and said, ”At that time, many people in the village cursed me, and they cursed you too, saying you were the offspring of some unknown man. It upset me greatly. They also said that your dad was definitely some scoundrel with leprosy. I couldn’t let them insult Ah Liu like that, nor could I let you continue to be a child without a dad, unable to be registered in the household. So, I thought to go looking for Ah Liu.”

Was this because she couldn’t bear the thought of her not having a dad, or was it that she couldn’t let go of that man?

Chiang Xiao’s gaze flickered.

”But, I didn’t know where he was. I searched for a long time, and all my money was exhausted. I didn’t know what to do. I also didn’t dare to go back, fearing that once I did, mom and dad would never let me leave again,” Chiang Qingzhu sobbed. ”After that, I thought about finding work, earning money while continuing to look for Ah Liu. Once I had earned enough, I would send some back to my parents, to show them that I could take care of myself outside and that I could earn money. That way, they definitely wouldn’t insist on me returning.”

She looked towards Chiang Xiao, wanting to hold her hand, but Chiang Xiao immediately put her hand under the table.

Chiang Qingzhu felt somewhat hurt, and looking at her, she said: ”Little Little, you don’t understand. After mom had you back then, some people from our village and the neighboring villages, who didn’t mind that I had a child, wanted to propose marriage. But they were all men like Lee Shu. How could I let you have such a father? That’s why I definitely couldn’t go back. I knew that if I didn’t leave, I might have been forced to just marry any man out of desperation. How could I go back?”

”You didn’t want to stay in the village, nor did you want to marry just anyone. Haven’t you ever thought about leaving with grandma, grandpa, and me together?”

Back then, how much did Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao dote on her?

If at that time Chiang Qingzhu had asked them to leave Siyang Village, they would have definitely agreed.

Moreover, back then Chiang Songhai still had that box of jewelry and silver. Taking that money, the family could have left Siyang Village and started anew somewhere else, creating a story that she was a widow if necessary.

Chiang Qingzhu was momentarily stunned, then said blankly, ”How could that be possible? Dad and mom have spent their whole lives in the village. To have them leave... leave for where? Besides, I didn’t know where I was going either; I was going to find your dad, and surely couldn’t bring them along.”

After all, Chiang Qingzhu back then was also a selfish and naive country girl, overly pampered by her parents, who couldn’t think of so much.

Moreover, the young girl did not understand how vast the outside world was, how treacherous it could be, and she naively thought she would find Ah Liu soon after setting out and could bring him back.

She believed that as long as she brought him back and had him marry her, there would be no more problems.

Chiang Xiao was somewhat speechless, her interest in continuing this topic waned.

”And after that?”

After that...

Chiang Qingzhu’s face turned pale once again.

It seemed that something had happened to her afterwards.

Chiang Xiao looked towards Kuang Kanzhi.

”That’s right, Chiang Xiao, after that, Ah Zhu encountered bad people. For two years, she didn’t have any personal freedom at all, couldn’t return even if she wanted to. Furthermore, the bad people watched her very closely. She didn’t even have the chance to write a letter or have someone carry a message for her.”

Chiang Qingzhu’s tears flowed down again as she hugged herself, trembling.

It was clear that it was a nightmarish experience.
