Chapter 198: Chapter 139: Human Martial Saint, Outstanding Youth Representative, Douyin Fans Skyrocket!_2

Elder Chen didn’t try to keep him any longer.

After saying, ”Nephew Zhang, come by when you’re free and take good care of Rourou,” he instructed Chen Fenghua to escort Zhang Beixing and the others out.

Meanwhile, he himself entered the adjacent inner room to entertain Huo Honghao, who had been waiting there for quite some time.

「...」

”The senior officer is truly a busy man!”

Noticing that Elder Chen had been occupied for a long time before finally meeting with him in the inner room, the military chief, Huo Honghao, couldn’t help but comment. He had indeed been waiting here for quite a while; even the tea had been replaced twice.

However, Elder Chen had participated in the War of Resistance and had distinguished military achievements. Although he hadn’t stayed in the military afterward, addressing him as ”Senior Officer” wasn’t an issue. Moreover, he had connections with Huo Honghao’s grandfather and father. Thus, Huo Honghao held great respect for Elder Chen; if it had been anyone else, he would have stormed off long ago after such a wait.

Hearing his words, Elder Chen realized he was at fault. He poured Huo Honghao a cup of tea and chuckled, ”It’s just that I encountered a talented and interesting junior, and I got carried away chatting. Please, don’t take it amiss!”

”You say that, but who would take offense at you? Speaking of which, the young man I saw earlier seemed to be practicing the Northern Sect’s Eight Pieces of Brocade, and he even produced such an astounding sound. What’s the situation there? Could he be your grandson-in-law?”

Seeing Elder Chen personally pour tea, Huo Honghao politely tapped the table three times with his hand and then tentatively asked, quite curious.

Even though over half an hour had passed since Zhang Beixing finished performing the Northern Sect’s Eight Pieces of Brocade, recalling the sounds Zhang Beixing had produced while practicing still left Huo Honghao profoundly shocked. He was also immensely curious about Zhang Beixing. How on earth did he make those sounds? However, due to the distance, Huo Honghao hadn’t clearly heard the earlier conversation in the reception hall between Zhang Beixing and Elder Chen. Thus, he could only judge their relationship based on their words and actions.

Hearing this, Elder Chen gave a wry laugh and shook his head. ”My grandson-in-law... I wish! But alas... It’s better not to speak of such things; let fate decide. But you, asking about him now—are you interested in him?”

”Yes!” Huo Honghao made no attempt to hide it. ”Although today was our first meeting, I feel he’s a promising young talent. If he could join the military and receive just a bit of grooming, his future would be limitless. He could definitely become the next Zhou Fan... no, perhaps even surpass him!”

”Well, in that case, it seems we’re on the same page!” Elder Chen nodded noncommittally.

”Oh? You mean, you also want him to join the military?” Huo Honghao raised an eyebrow, quite surprised.

”What are you thinking?” Elder Chen retorted, somewhat irritated. ”Such a promising talent should naturally be developed in the Martial Arts community! He could very well become the only true Great Grandmaster in hundreds of years. When I said we were on the same page, I meant that I also believe Nephew Zhang’s potential is limitless! People like Zhou Fan, the King of Soldiers? They’re a dime a dozen; you might get several in a single year if you’re lucky! Besides, being a King of Soldiers primarily depends on military talent, not so much on personal combat capability, especially in this era of high-tech weaponry. But a Great Grandmaster? You might not see one of those in five hundred years! Zhang Beixing has the aptitude to become a Great Grandmaster; he absolutely must be nurtured within the Martial Arts community! Sending him to the military, to put it bluntly, would be squandering his talent! A person like Zhang Beixing was born for Martial Arts Training!”

Hearing Elder Chen, Huo Honghao frowned slightly, clearly displeased. ”Senior Officer, if you put it that way, then I must argue with you. A Great Grandmaster might be formidable and individually powerful, but in this technological age, can he really overcome modern weapons? Surely, a Great Grandmaster cannot withstand guns and cannons, right? Therefore, strong physical conditioning and martial prowess must be paired with advanced weaponry to achieve true, enhanced strength. In my opinion, Comrade Zhang should join our military!”

”Nonsense!” Elder Chen shot back. ”No matter how powerful weapons are, they are external objects. Martial arts are one’s own.”

Elder Chen was utterly stubborn, refusing to yield. He knew full well that even the most skilled martial artist was no match for modern armaments, yet he simply wouldn’t concede that a martial arts expert should join the military.

Huo Honghao: ”...”

「...」

”ACHOO!”

As Elder Chen and Huo Honghao stuck to their guns, arguing whether Zhang Beixing should enlist or continue Martial Arts Training, Zhang Beixing, sitting in the passenger seat of Liu Yi’s A8, sneezed. He rubbed his nose, feeling quite puzzled. Why do I suddenly feel like someone’s talking about me behind my back? That nearly sent my snot flying! Damn, whoever you are, you better hope I don’t find out who’s cursing me, or I’ll send you flying and show you what real trouble looks like!

”Why the sudden sneeze? Caught a cold?” Liu Yi asked, turning to look at Zhang Beixing after hearing the commotion.

Zhang Beixing took the tissue Chen Rourou handed him and blew his nose with a loud HONK.

”Probably not,” he said casually. ”Maybe it’s just because I’m so handsome that someone can’t stop thinking about me.”
