Chapter 160: Chapter 131: The Doctors Are Shocked—All Dead, Not a Single Survivor?_3

Before that, however, they still needed to make a trip to the hospital to prevent the human traffickers, should they regain consciousness, from causing a disturbance and escaping in the chaos.

With that in mind, Police Commissioner Bai had the others take the computer back to the police station for investigation. He and Li Shuo then went outside, got into the police car, and headed for Shishi First People’s Hospital.

「Over half an hour later.」

By the time Police Commissioner Bai and his team arrived at Shishi First People’s Hospital, it had already gotten dark.

Upon learning that the traffickers had been taken into a room by the doctors and resuscitation attempts had begun, Police Commissioner Bai led Li Shuo to the corridor. He offered Li Shuo a cigarette and then began puffing away on his own as they waited. He had assumed this would take some time, but unexpectedly, before he had even finished his cigarette, a doctor pushed open the room door and emerged.

After finding Police Commissioner Bai and Li Shuo in the corridor, he brought news that was beyond their expectations:

”Sorry, we did everything we could, but only two individuals have been revived, showing faint signs of breathing. The rest stopped breathing soon after they were brought in, and some had been dead for quite some time before their arrival. There was nothing more we could do!”

These words left Police Commissioner Bai and Li Shuo stunned. It was only when the cigarette burned his fingers that Police Commissioner Bai finally snapped back to reality. He quickly discarded the cigarette and, looking at the resuscitation doctor with astonishment, exclaimed, ”What on earth are you saying? Only two people were saved, and the rest are dead?”

”Yes, Police Commissioner Bai, we did our best, but there’s nothing that can be done in such cases. With our current medical expertise, there’s no way to bring back those who have been dead for an extended period!” As the resuscitation doctor spoke, he felt particularly speechless.

Originally, when he saw the police bringing in so many people at once, he thought he’d have to use all his skills today. But to his surprise, out of the dozen or so people brought in by the police, at least half were already breathless, icy-cold corpses. Of the remaining few who did have faint breaths, they were too weak to save; he could only watch them die. This meant that out of the dozen or so people, only two were snatched back from the hands of the Death God.

It was a good thing it was Police Commissioner Bai and his officers. Otherwise, the resuscitation doctor might have suspected them of deliberately causing trouble, inciting a medical dispute to extort hefty compensation.

”Oh, right, I almost forgot to mention,” the doctor continued, his tone pausing as his expression turned serious and strange. ”Those two we barely managed to save are still in a comatose state from severe injuries, and it’s doubtful they will wake up anytime soon. And then, concerning the other deceased... their deaths are, how should I put it... very strange. Despite a thorough examination, we found no external fatal injuries on their bodies. Yet they stopped breathing and died, and it was a large-scale death. To be honest, in all my years of practicing medicine, I’ve never seen anything like it. Police Commissioner Bai, do you have any idea what’s going on here?”

The resuscitation doctor asked, utterly puzzled. Although his profession meant he was accustomed to all sorts of life-and-death situations and peculiar cases, the current situation was something he had never encountered. Even a collective drug-fueled frenzy wouldn’t result in this, surely!

Unbeknownst to him, as he spoke, Police Commissioner Bai and Li Shuo were once again thrown into confusion.

They carefully replayed the recent events in their minds. Although they had been somewhat rough when dragging the human traffickers into the ambulance, it certainly wasn’t enough to cause their deaths. Before that, the only ones who had handled the traffickers were Zhang Beixing and the police officers who had arrived at the scene earlier. There was no need to consider the police officers; they were well-trained. Even if they despised the traffickers to their core, once the traffickers lost their ability to resist, they wouldn’t lay a hand on them—not only to maintain the dignity and justice of the law but also to honor the responsibilities that came with their uniforms. Eliminating the incorrect options, only one answer remained.

”Zhang Beixing!” Exchanging a glance, Police Commissioner Bai and Li Shuo simultaneously uttered the name, their hearts filled with alarm.

They knew Zhang Beixing was fierce, capable of fighting and overcoming a dozen traffickers by himself. But they had never anticipated that Zhang Beixing was *this* ferocious! A dozen human traffickers, and after he was done with them, only two were left alive! How did he do it? They had inspected the traffickers’ bodies earlier. Aside from their clothes being somewhat disheveled, there were no fatal injuries, no cuts; at most, they were bruised and swollen. Moreover, at first, they still showed faint signs of breathing. It was thought they were merely unconscious, but who would have guessed the truth... they were all dead? That’s impossible!

”Strange!” Police Commissioner Bai muttered, his face etched with shock and disbelief. He frowned, lit another cigarette with a puzzled expression, and took a deep drag.

He continued to ponder. But soon, he realized that no matter how much he thought, he couldn’t figure out how Zhang Beixing had accomplished this, let alone understand how he could have killed the group without leaving any fatal wounds!

”Alright, I understand the situation,” Police Commissioner Bai said, having decided he couldn’t make sense of it without more information. He resolved to check the video footage and immediately rushed downstairs.

Li Shuo quickly followed. As they dashed away, only a few instructions from the Police Commissioner lingered in the ears of the resuscitation doctor:

”As for the bodies, have them transported to our police station later. Although these people deserved to die, their deaths are so mysterious that we still need a forensic pathologist to determine the cause. You should know the procedure. I’m busy, so I won’t say much more. Xiao Li, let’s go! To the station, to watch the footage! Move!!!”
