Chapter 159: Chapter 131: The doctors are shocked, all dead, not one survived?_2

”WEE-OOO—WEE-OOO—”

The wail of ambulance sirens echoed through the mountain forest.

Before long, about a dozen ambulances came bumping and jolting down the narrow road, pulling to a stop nearby.

The doors of the lead ambulance opened first. A doctor, a nurse, and two stretcher-bearers carrying a stretcher disembarked.

They hurried to the scene. The doctor, wasting no time, asked directly, ”Where is the patient?”

”Over here!”

”It’s him!”

Seeing the doctor arrive, Zhang Beixing and Superintendent Bai, who had just returned from making a call, simultaneously pointed and spoke.

The difference, however, was that Zhang Beixing was pointing at Lin Pengfei, while Superintendent Bai was pointing at Zhang Beixing.

Instantly, both Zhang Beixing and Lin Pengfei were dumbfounded.

They exchanged glances, confusion evident in each other’s eyes.

Seeing their reaction, Superintendent Bai stated plainly, ”Take them both. Give them a check-up. Just bill the medical expenses to our police department. Especially this young fellow, shirtless and wrapped in bandages—make absolutely sure to give him a thorough, head-to-toe examination. He’s the great hero of this operation; we can’t afford any slip-ups!”

Zhang Beixing: ”Huh???”

Hearing Superintendent Bai say he needed a check-up, Zhang Beixing actually felt it was rather unnecessary.

Zhang Beixing knew his own body’s condition perfectly well.

Though he looked heavily bandaged, as if seriously injured, it was actually just some superficial wounds. He’d be fully recovered after two or three days of rest.

That’s what Zhang Beixing thought,

and indeed, he said as much. But Superintendent Bai didn’t believe him.

He thought that although Zhang Beixing appeared fine externally, there might already be internal injuries.

He insisted that Zhang Beixing undergo a medical examination before he would feel at ease.

Even Lin Siqi chimed in, supporting Superintendent Bai.

Seeing he really couldn’t win against the two of them, Zhang Beixing, though he felt it was unnecessary, could only nod in agreement.

And so, he, along with the injured Lin Pengfei and Lin Siqi, who was accompanying the patient, boarded an ambulance and headed to the hospital for a comprehensive medical examination.

Watching the three of them depart, the faint smile on Superintendent Bai’s face vanished. He turned to look at the children rescued by the police—panicked and wailing loudly—and then at the group of human traffickers, shackled together, their fates uncertain. Superintendent Bai’s frown deepened.

In a city as large as Shishi, this single location had yielded so many abducted children.

What about other places?

Could there be even more?

”This matter must be reported to the higher-ups!” Superintendent Bai murmured to himself. He then ordered some officers to take the children back to the Shishi Police Department and contact their parents based on recent missing person reports.

Next, he looked at the unconscious human traffickers. Noticing they still showed no signs of waking, Superintendent Bai couldn’t help but mutter inwardly, Outrageous.

He pondered just how brutally Zhang Beixing must have beaten them to leave them in such a state.

It wasn’t that he was blaming Zhang Beixing. Primarily, Superintendent Bai wanted to use this opportunity to extract some information from these traffickers: who were the previous buyers, and were there other trafficking gangs in other parts of Shishi?

As a police superintendent, he couldn’t very well return empty-handed.

He had to achieve something, at the very least!

Otherwise, even if his superiors said nothing, he himself would feel he hadn’t done enough!

But alas, these traffickers had been beaten so severely by Zhang Beixing that they were clearly in no condition to provide any information. To get them to talk, they would first need to be sent to the hospital and treated by doctors until they regained consciousness.

”Damn it, what rotten luck!”

”Alright, Xiao Li, stop with the sneaky kicks. They’re all unconscious; kicking them harder won’t do any good.”

”Hurry and get them onto the ambulances. Once they wake up and tell us everything, you’ll have plenty of chances to deal with them.”

With this in mind, Superintendent Bai issued the order.

Hearing him, Xiao Li, who had been delivering those kicks, nodded. He understood the priorities and, together with Superintendent Bai and in coordination with the doctors, began moving the traffickers onto the ambulances.

After all the traffickers had been loaded onto the ambulances, Superintendent Bai figured there might still be some clues inside their wooden cabin.

So he led Li Shuo and other personnel with technical expertise inside to conduct a meticulous search.

Sure enough, their search uncovered a hidden compartment beneath a sturdy wooden desk. Inside was an encrypted laptop. Li Shuo decrypted it and, upon searching its contents, found not only the trafficking group’s previous transaction records and addresses but also several surveillance videos. Clearly, they usually used this computer to conduct transactions and monitor every move of the children they had abducted. Li Shuo investigated further and found that the traffickers had installed an extensive network of surveillance cameras, including in the restrooms and even outside the cabin. Wait a minute... outside? The footage from the exterior camera immediately piqued the interest of both Li Shuo and Superintendent Bai.

Wasn’t it outside this wooden cabin that Zhang Beixing had fought the traffickers?

They had been wondering how Zhang Beixing managed to take down more than ten people by himself.

Now, it seemed they might finally get some insights.
