Chapter 1034: Chapter 449: Battle of La-Mesnil Abbey (Part 2)_3

The championship duel finally ended in Guer’s defeat; the undead legion on the left wing had been annihilated, and under Laine’s orders, the defending army on the left wing began to support the central army, allowing the warfare to start turning in their favor with the surplus forces returning.

At this time, a streak of dawn had already appeared on the horizon. Belgar gathered the army, gazing at the sky: ”The sun is about to rise!”

......

At this moment, not far from the fiercely contested monastery, there was a large group of fully armed knights hiding on a small hill about two kilometers away from the battlefield, within a small grove, resting.

This group of knights was not very large, numbering a bit over two hundred. The leader was a tall knight, wielding a large axe with both hands. His face was rugged, the hair at his temples grey, and his beard was a mottled white. Due to recent events, his imposing figure had somewhat diminished, losing considerable weight, he endured quite a blow, and after a period of introspection, having stayed away from women and alcohol for a long time and traveled overnight, his spirit appeared rather sluggish.

Now, however, with dark circles around his eyes, he listened to the reports from his knights: ”My Duke! Count Glamorgan, Lady’s Divine Chosen Champion Laine Macado has won the championship duel! The undead army’s left wing has been annihilated!”

”Excellent!” The leader knight forcefully slapped his thigh: ”Well done! As expected of the Lady’s champion!”

This knight was Duke Theodoric of Borelion, exiled to the Lake Fairy Nunnery in Bastogne by order of Lake God Witch Mogiana for his madness and affair with the wives of subordinate nobles and knights, when the scandal broke.

Upon learning of Kemler and his undead legion ravaging Eastern Brittania, Theodoric immediately realized this was a great opportunity for him to atone for his sins.

He used his remaining influence to gather some loyal knights willing to serve him, and they traveled from Bastogne to this place.

Duke Theodoric and his followers had arrived near the monastery half an hour ago, but he didn’t rush to support them; despite being a drunkard and lecherous, his excellent command ability and extensive military experience told him that the knight army he led was too small, and after traveling long distances, rushing to aid now would certainly be ineffective; he needed to wait for the right moment.

Thus, the duke ordered all knights to rest here, closely monitoring the battlefield situation.

Now, the opportunity had come!

Theodoric tightly grasped his war axe, which was a holy artifact passed down from Balduin, the first Duke of Borelion, imbued with the blessing of the Lake Fairy; the bright spiritual aura surrounded the war axe, and only by gripping the war axe could Theodoric briefly escape from his shame and setbacks, and feel that the Lake Fairy had not abandoned him.

The duke immediately signaled all knights to prepare for battle, launching into a passionate and stirring speech.

”My brothers! The opportunity has arrived!” Mounting his horse, Duke Theodoric shouted loudly: ”The chance for redemption is right before us! Francois and Laine are fighting alone!”

”For our most faithful devotion to the Lady of the Lake!”

”Draw your swords, raise your long spears.”

”Fight for the Lady! Fight for Brittania!”

”Forward!!!”

To atone to the Goddess, accompanied by the first ray of dawn, Duke Theodoric and the duchy’s knights headed to the battlefield.
