Chapter 1026: Chapter 447: The Battle of La-Mesnil Abbey (Part 1)

”Welcome, Alaros, you and your army will provide crucial support in this battle.” Laine jogged over to Alaros, speaking fluent Elf Language: ”Very... very welcome!”

”You only need to remember that Eslelin is always watching the outside world.” Alaros, upon Laine’s arrival, wore a proud expression: ”Including all of you, no one can escape the watchful eye of Eslelin.”

The support from the Wood Elves is a true boon, with Alaros the Brave leading the army known as the ”Talas Eagle Guard” in the King’s Forest. This unit is a core force protecting the Wood Elf Queen Airel and is entirely commanded by Alaros.

”Thank you for the support from the Wood Elves. Your help to us will always be remembered by me and my Duchy.” Francois extended his hand: ”Welcome.”

”...” Alaros kept his chin raised, indifferent to Francois’ offer of goodwill, until two seconds later when the Divine Chosen Champion of the Wood Elf Queen finally extended his hand: ”This is the continuation of an ancient covenant.”

Having said that, Alaros couldn’t help but rejoice internally; he felt his demeanor was quite dashing and stylish.

Lilith would certainly like that.

Is the Goddess watching over me? Alaros thought, feeling delighted inside.

Unbeknownst to him, his beloved Goddess indeed had her attention on the battle, though not focused on him.

It was under orders from Olein and Airel that Alaros led the army out to support Brittania. This Forest Lord led a well-trained army away from the Aisloron Forest.

The Wood Elves aren’t as oblivious to the changes in the Old World as outsiders might imagine. In fact, these forest dwellers understand well that if they wish to maintain absolute isolation, they must be more attuned to the outside world’s conditions and shifts.

Eslelin has always maintained a relationship of utility with the Brittania people. To the reclusive Wood Elves, the Knight Kingdom serves as a barrier against external threats. Should there be an enemy invasion, the Knight Kingdom would resolve the issues themselves, and the forest would remain undisturbed. Brittania and the Wood Elves have a covenant, and generally, the Knights would not venture into the forest carelessly.

But what if the Brittania people truly encountered trouble?

At such times, the Wood Elves would deploy their forces to aid Brittania, seeing it as urgent to prevent the flames of war from approaching the forest.

”I did not expect to see you here.” Laine spoke to Alaros in Elf Language.

”The rangers serving you returned the news; we know what Kemler and his army’s target is, and we will not watch idly as this country becomes an undead realm or allow Kemler’s schemes to succeed.” Alaros was friendlier towards Laine, as Lilith had designated him as a cooperation partner. Since Lilith wanted him to build a good relationship with Laine, Alaros did not shy from showing a friendly face to Laine.

Although Laine spoke fluent High Elf Language, the Wood Elves didn’t particularly like the High Elf accent, but speaking Elf Language so fluently was quite commendable for a monkey, Alaros thought, deciding to lower the standard a bit.

”We are honored to fight alongside you.” Alaros turned and faced the knights of the Quenalis Champion Knights Brotherhood, raising his head: ”Once more.”

......

The Wood Elf army joined the left wing led by Laine, with many Woodland Guards and Deep Forest Scouts replacing the La-Mesnil Holy Watchers on the monastery walls. Alaros led a troop of Woodland Cavalry and numerous Eternal Guards beside Laine, with a handsome falcon perched on his shoulder: ”Good evening, Laine, meeting you feels like it was just yesterday.”

”Good evening, Alaros, I’m surprised it’s you coming. It’s said as Queen Airel’s Divine Chosen Champion, you hardly ever leave the forest.” Laine thought for the Wood Elves, indeed, a year feels like a day, especially with their particularly long lifespans.

”It was my voluntary request.” Under the moonlight, far off, a vast undead army appeared on the horizon, and Alaros’ Dark Vision could already see the vanguard of the undead legion. Meanwhile, the humans were not unaware of the undead army’s approach—the distant deep and mournful horn signals said it all.

”Voluntary request?” The lines were steadfast, battle imminent, yet Laine’s face showed calmness: ”I don’t understand.”

”I heard that a very powerful Undead Chaos Champion was resurrected, who surprisingly held you and Duke Francois off alone at the Battle of Black Stone Stronghold. I think he’s a worthy trophy.” Alaros toyed with his Long Spear: ”He will be my prey; Lilith will like that.”

”You stand no chance.” Laine inwardly laughed, speaking words full of depth, leaving ambiguous whether he referred to Guer or else.

”Are you questioning my strength?” Immediately, Alaros’ pride ignited his anger.

”Because I’ll deal with Guer before you do. I’ll use my hammer and sword to eliminate that dead man.” Laine gripped Mjolnir tight: ”The dead can’t die again, so... let’s completely obliterate instead.”

Just beside them, Belgar stood whispering to his rune stone: ”Ah, I truly hate sharp ears, they particularly enjoy speaking in their own language. Damn it, what’s Laine discussing with that sharp ear that he doesn’t want me to know? I’ll make note of this!”
