Warhammer Divine Throne

PS. Let me emphasize here, novels are not games. In games, as long as the player is willing, you can fully deploy Holy Grail Knights or Horned Eagle Beast Knights to sweep all forces, but I obviously cannot write the novel this way. There are only so few Holy Grail Knights, and if they all die, they are truly all dead.

Although the Witch trusts that Laine won’t harm her, she still feels a bit uneasy in her heart.

”My physique is special, Veronica. As you know, I have no fear of any corruption,” Laine thought for a moment and decided to reveal more: ”But precisely because of that, I need some means to prevent some people around me from being corrupted, especially you, dear. Sometimes, you are too eager for profit, stopping at nothing to achieve your goals.”

”So, this is...” Veronica seemed to ponder.

”Yes, just as you imagine. As for the benefits… you’ll know when the wings fully open,” Laine smiled mysteriously. ”It won’t be long before it appears on Ollica, too.”

”Then I think I understand what this is, proof of identity? A safeguard against corruption?” Veronica seemed to ponder.

Laine merely smiled without answering, ”In any case, I won’t harm you, dear.”

Veronica rolled her eyes at him. The Witch found a comfortable position in his arms: ”Hold me tight, Laine, let’s rest.”

”Mm.”

From Winter Festival to the winter after, because of frozen land, cold climate, and sealed rivers, Laine and others basically had nothing to do. Normally they recuperated and took the opportunity to practice in the territory. Whenever free, Laine would spar with Angerong, most often resulting in a thrashing, for Angerong was truly too strong. Even though he was still in a weakened state, he could hang Laine up and beat him. It’s just that now Laine no longer had absolutely no power to retaliate.

By early March, the weather began to gradually warm up.

Laine also received an invitation letter.

The quadrennial knight tournament will continue to be held in Kulona, with this year’s hosts being King Dinua Jean Richard de Le Anglong and Lake God Witch Mogiana, who invited the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy to attend and watch.

Laine knew about this. In fact, even without an invitation, he would go to Kulona because he had promised Surya.

Veronica declined to go to Kulona together. The Jialan Witch actually did not have a good impression of those Lake God Prophets of the Lake Fairy, and she was busy summoning hands to build her own Wizard Tower, not particularly interested in the so-called knight tournament.

Ollica was also unwilling to travel far, and Olivier had to stay behind to watch over the territory. In the end, Laine decided to set off with Lops and Hex, taking five sergeants with him. Unfortunately, there were no knights in his territory fit to participate in the knight tournament. Hex was nearly thirty, and Lops was just over twenty-five.

Amelia was also brought along by Laine. Seeing that no other woman was going out with Laine, the girl immediately expressed her desire to accompany Laine to the knight tournament.

About ten kilometers from the territory, Duke of Winford, ”Long Legs” Francois’ team appeared in front of everyone, the family crest flag of the Pure White Pegasus fluttered in the air, its golden duke’s crown symbolizing the duke’s rank, the golden fleur-de-lis border representing his lineage from King Arthur, the Knight King, and the golden chalice on the pegasus’ hooves proclaiming his honor as a Holy Grail Knight.

This time the Duke of Winford brought more than twenty clan knights, and most of them were very young and tender, evidently all set to participate in the knight tournament.

The duke’s daughter was among them. Not having seen Laine for a long time, Surya’s sky-blue eyes were filled with delight seeing Laine’s silhouette, she immediately waved: ”Laine? You’re here after all, I knew you would keep your promise to us.”

So the parties converged. Laine, riding the Pure-blooded Elf Warhorse Grape, led at the front, keeping pace with Duke of Winford, Francois, who himself rode a tall pegasus, exuding an elegance that was inspiring: ”My Duke, I didn’t expect you to personally attend this time.”

”At every knight tournament, unless there’s an issue, I always personally attend to watch.” Francois smiled gracefully, stroking his beard: ”The duels of young knights always excite me, reminding me of my own youth.”

”Hehe~ Indeed, even a Holy Grail Knight should have some hobbies, especially since you are also a former winner of the knight tournament,” Laine nodded repeatedly, ”I heard from Sir Jules that decades ago, it was you who successively defeated him and Lord Theodoric to win the championship of the knight tournament.”

”That was decades ago. The Lake God Witch at that time was not yet Her Highness Mogiana,” Francois reminisced about his youth with a mixture of nostalgia and pride: ”I always kept that victory in mind. When I was pursuing the Holy Grail, I encountered countless difficulties and dangers, once falling off a cliff and being washed into rapids, yet the Lady always inspired me to move forward. Eventually, after slaying multiple giant evil creatures, dawn broke as I crossed a creek formed by mountain snowmelt, where I saw a beautiful figure I can’t describe with words. She was waiting for me.”

”I knew then, it was my Lady, it was the Holy Grail.”

The young knights in the team all stopped talking; they listened intently to Francois’ speech, fearing they would miss any detail. Holy Grail Knights generally kept their path to the Holy Grail secret, revealing only snippets when talking among fellow Holy Grail Knights.
