Chapter 428: Chapter 183, Boldro Night (Part 4)

At the same time, he also carried the mysterious mission of his mentor. Recently, the Elf Destiny Goddess Lilith gave Great Mage Tygris a dream, saying that a gray horse had appeared in Brittania, and it would change the fate of the world.

Tygris has always been a loyal believer and Divine Chosen Mage of Lilith, but he currently had other tasks at hand. Hence, Anatole voluntarily came to the Old World. Naturally, High Elves are superior to humans everywhere, and Duke Boldro was delighted by Anatole’s arrival and hosted him generously.

The High Elf race is composed of twelve kingdoms, but the Phoenix King is usually selected from the nobility of Calado Kingdom and Safuri Kingdom, the two oldest and most honorable kingdoms. Unlike Calado Kingdom, which is skilled in warfare and full of arrogance and prejudice, the High Elf nobles from Safuri Kingdom are excellent politicians and diplomats. Anatole quickly became the most popular person at the court in Boldro within a few days.

At this moment, cheers echoed from the courtyard. A court wizard conjured an illusion of mermaids and dolphins using magic. Within the white halo, mermaids wielding tridents and adorable dolphins swam between the courtyard’s pool and pavilion. The astonished cries from male nobles and the screams of female nobles were incessant.

”Wonderful, the clever use of Light Magic.” Laine gently clapped, whispering to Surya: ”Magic isn’t just for combat; in many places, it can enhance our lives. We shouldn’t view magic as a monstrous threat.”

The female knight’s face was flushed with a charming red. She simply held Laine’s arm tightly. Just now, they tried all sorts of games at the banquet, and this feeling of sneaking around without her father and brother nearby made the duchess’ daughter indulge.

Francois tacitly approved of her relationship with Laine, even subtly encouraging it, which allowed the female knight to release her burdens and enjoy the wonderful time spent with Laine.

”That’s just some trivial tricks, subpar stuff.” A voice intruded into their conversation at an inopportune time: ”Magic has many uses, but using it as tricks to entertain the masses can hardly be considered one of them.”

”Hello, pleased to meet you, Lord Laine Macado. I am Anatole, Anatole the Star Chaser, from the Safuri Mage Council.” The High Elf appeared beside Laine, leaning on a Magic Staff: ”I heard your name from Tymag, I’d like to chat with you.”

”What’s the Asur wish to discuss with me?” Laine turned around, having already noticed this High Elf.

Learning that he was a High Elf Magic Master from Safuri Kingdom, Laine felt slightly at ease. High Elves are divided into many kingdoms, and Safuri Kingdom is close to humans. The current Phoenix King Finuba is from Safuri Kingdom, and many High Elves from this kingdom are excellent diplomats.

”Lord Laine’s rise is beyond the Asur’s imagination. Even among humans, few reach Legendary High-Tier at the age of twenty-five.” With a feminine appearance where only the Adam’s apple revealed Anatole’s male identity, the High Elf combed his dazzling golden hair with his fingers and continued: ”I’ve brought goodwill from the Asur, Lord Laine. Our strength is evident; the empire’s so-called Royal Wizard Academy was established with the help of Lord Tygris. If you need, the Asur can provide assistance and answers regarding magic.”

”Someone will provide me assistance and answers regarding magic, respected Mr. Anatole.” Laine tactfully declined the High Elf Magic Master’s offer: ”Though it’s quite rude, the sudden appearance and proposal from Asur makes it impossible for me to decide right now.”

”Hehehe~” Anatole nodded understandingly, leaning on the Magic Staff: ”I know my appearance is somewhat abrupt. It’s okay, Lord Laine, the Asur is a race full of virtue and patience. We have a long timeline, and we understand it’s impossible to gain your trust instantly. It’s okay, we’re willing to wait.”

”The strength of the Asur far exceeds your imagination. I have a small piece of news that might interest you, Lord Laine.” Anatole deliberately paused, observing Laine’s indifferent expression, then continued: ”Duke of Paragon Casvan is in economic trouble. He is already indebted tens of thousands to the Duke of Marinburg. Therefore, he plans to continue taxing his guarded pass and, at the same time, demand a significant defense fee from the empire’s court.” The fee being the reward for protecting the pass against Green Skins and other Dark Creatures.”

”This unreasonable request was naturally rejected by Carl Franz Friedrich and all Prince-Electors, and as far as I know, both sides will begin their actions.”

Laine squinted his eyes; this isn’t good news for him.

He’s also aware of Casvan’s situation, just like Francois said, the Duke of Paragon’s domain is small and barren. Yet, the Duke insists on maintaining a fully staffed Pegasus Knight Order, which naturally burdens him financially. Casvan is a Great Noble who enjoys ostentation and luxurious life, thus he frequently taxes his pass, attracting criticism from both the empire and Brittania’s nobility.
