Chapter 408: Chapter 175, Wood Elves and Kislev

”Long time no see, old friend.” Estelle’s beautiful golden hair, he was still as handsome and charming as before: ”You seem to be doing well lately?”

”Well, Estelle, turns out you’re a spy and a guide? Anyway, I welcome your arrival regardless!” Laine gave the Half-Elf a warm embrace.

After several battles fought side by side, his bond with Estelle was deep enough, and if it weren’t for the Half-Elf acting as a bridge, he would not have easily earned the trust and assistance of the Wood Elves.

About twenty Wood Elf Eternal Guards followed behind Estelle, always full of vigilance, observing everyone who appeared nearby.

”Hello, Lord Laine, I am Bilodis from the Eternal Forest.” Another female Forest Lord stood before Laine, her figure tall, with a fierce appearance and her face painted with brown patterns, looking every bit the seasoned warrior. The Forest Lord’s hands were riddled with calluses and heavily shadowed eyes; from a human’s aesthetic, Laine found it hard to think this Forest Lord was beautiful: ”Hello, Lady Bilodis, I am Laine, Laine Macado.”

”This is my husband, Gross.” A strong male Wood Elf stepped forward, wearing only simple chest armor and leather armor, with all other parts of his body covered in green leaves. On his back was a compound bow, and at his waist, a short sword hidden in a sheath. His expression wasn’t pleasant, but he still greeted Laine grudgingly.

The Wood Elves have a matriarchal society, and in the Forest Council, the majority in power are female, even the King of the Forest, Olein, tends to listen more to his wife and Queen Airel’s commands. Both the King and Queen wield powerful magic and are Demigods; Airel symbolizes peace, rebirth, growth, the harmony of the forest, while Olein symbolizes wildness, frenzy, the struggle for survival, the brutal side of nature.

If not for the diplomatic relations between Brittania and the Wood Elves, Laine wouldn’t know so much. The messengers of the Wood Elves have to repeatedly emphasize each year to keep the Knights away from the forest, yet many young Ranger Knights still venture into Wood Elf territory for glory...

”Welcome to my domain.” Laine calmly expressed his welcome to the Wood Elves: ”I think we need to talk.”

”I agree, Lord Laine, you have proven yourself as an outstanding Holy Grail Knight. We share common enemies, which is why you have earned our friendship. You should be aware of how distrustful the Eslelin are towards humans, so please do not waste our trust in you, otherwise, you will face the wrath of the forest.” Forest Lord Bilodis began with a warning, rather arrogantly, with her chin lifted high.

Laine, however, didn’t buy it, the Holy Grail Knight calmly stated: ”Trust is mutual and requires joint effort. The trust between us was earned through fighting side by side and mutual benefit, not through the charity of you Eslelin. I hope we can put aside prejudices and have an equal dialogue, or this fragile agreement is destined not to last long.”

The Wood Elves fell silent, as Laine spoke in the Elf Language, the guards and humans who had rushed over could not understand what their Baron was saying.

Only Laine’s brows were tightly knit, if the Wood Elves maintained such an arrogant attitude, there was actually nothing much to discuss between them.

I may need to trade with you, but I will definitely not beg like a grandson, even if Laine backs down now, their future cooperation will definitely not last long.

Historically, long-term cooperation has always been based on relative equality and mutual benefit.

The Wood Elves also sensed the human before them was different; many humans have a natural fear and reverence for Elves, allowing the Elves to often gain the upper hand when facing humans.

But not Laine, in his eyes, these Sharp Ears are no different from normal humans, and conversely, this guy believes that no matter which kind of Elf, essentially they are not good birds.

Only humans are destined to rule the Galaxy and all living things, the father thought so, and the son does too.

Forest Lord Bilodis’s face flashed with anger but quickly disappeared, yet the Wood Elves immediately considered the immense prestige and power of the human before them, to which she coughed twice and softened her tone: ”We didn’t mean that, Lord Laine, I think you misunderstood. What we hope for is to establish an observation post and trade point within your territory, we do not wish to start a conflict with you.”

”That would be best, however, I must remind you, while I can respect some of your customs, there are some rules that cannot be changed because of you. If we can reach a consensus on this point, then I think we can continue discussing. What do Bilodis and Gross think?” Laine continued.

”That is natural, humans have human laws, Elves have Elf laws.” On this point, the Wood Elves agreed, as a group who stay cooped up in the forest and barely venture outside, they most demand other races keep away from the forest, naturally, they understand the rules outside the forest are different.
