Livestream Matchmaking: My Intel Infinitely Refreshes

Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Can’t Reach High, Won’t Stoop Low

”You’re right!” The man suddenly remembered something and told Zhang Zhe, ”I remember my relative telling me her ex-husband was very rich. His annual income was definitely over a million—absolutely more than one million.”

”Why would your relative tell you that?”

”Uh...”

”Why are you hesitating? Just spit it out!”

”My relative told me this to imply that since she used to have money, she’s well-maintained and can still have children.”

”...” Zhang Zhe rubbed his forehead in exasperation. ”I knew I shouldn’t have asked.”

[Wow, what a total turn-off.]

[How is that a turn-off? He’s just telling it like it is.]

[Can you guys please stop focusing on what’s below the belt?]

[It’s just human nature.]

[Freud would be ecstatic. See, everything really is about sexual repression.]

Seeing the comments devolve into an argument, Zhang Zhe knew that this topic was definitely not appropriate for Xiaohongshu.

”Look, man, it’s not that you can’t think about sex, but you shouldn’t give it so much weight in a marriage.”

”Based on what your relative just told you, shouldn’t you be focused on the fact her ex-husband made a million a year? Shouldn’t you be wondering if she can accept a downgrade in her lifestyle if she remarries, and whether you can meet her needs?”

”I should be able to. I work out regularly.”

”Who was asking you about *that*?!”

’What I was actually trying to say is that you can gauge her position in her last marriage by looking at the money or assets she received in the divorce.’

’If her ex-husband really cheated on her like she claims, she should have received a massive settlement. Not only would the law have been on her side, but public opinion would have been, too. There’s no way her ex could have divorced her without getting taken to the cleaners.’

’But this guy seems to have some serious comprehension issues.’

”Forget it, forget it. Whatever makes you happy, man.” Zhang Zhe gave a tired wave. ”Let’s just leave it at that for now.”

”In any case, I’ve already given you a clear analysis of this potential date of yours.”

”Okay, thank you, Teacher.”

”Teacher, check your WeChat. I’ve transferred the consultation fee.”

”Huh?” Zhang Zhe glanced down.

An account labeled ”Locksmith (Second Marriage Consultation)” had initiated a transfer to him. The amount was 8,800?

”Hey man, this is...”

Zhang Zhe looked up, wanting to thank the man.

But he had already left the call.

At the same time, a message from the man popped up on his WeChat:

”Thanks so much, Teacher. Just a small token of my appreciation.”

”I just took a look at that woman’s Xiaohongshu account. She doesn’t seem very respectable.”

”Kinda looks like she’s selling herself.”

”That trick of yours, having us get on a call to look at her account, is brilliant.”

”I’ll be coming to you for my matchmaking needs from now on.”

’So that’s why!’ Zhang Zhe had been wondering how the man had a change of heart so quickly. Turns out he’d gone and snooped on her profile.

’While he didn’t entirely agree with the man’s conclusion, social media really could reveal a person’s hidden side.’

’8,800 was a bit steep for a consultation fee, but what could he do? The man valued his service and insisted on paying.’

’He supposed he had no choice but to reluctantly accept it.’

[Brother Zhang is already taking private clients? Hope your business booms!]

[How much for a consultation where both parties join the call?]

[Looks like the streamer’s business is doing well.]

”For viewers who want to do a consultation with both parties on the call, you can purchase the consultation service listed below. I’ll send you my WeChat information, and we can have a preliminary chat.”

”The price isn’t fixed. It depends on how much we talk.”

’Zhang Zhe’s call-ins were originally free. But he realized that when a matchmaking pair came on the call, it would be a man and a woman. The woman would count as a matchmaking session, which gave him a system reward. But what about the man?’

’Technically, the man could also count as a matchmaking subject, but unfortunately, the system’s same-sex option was disabled.’

’So now, men who joined the call were purely for analysis.’

’If he didn’t charge a fee for it, Zhang Zhe felt like he was losing out.’

”If a woman comes on by herself for matchmaking, it’s still the same as before—free.”

”Alright, is the next guest ready?”

...

While Zhang Zhe was connecting with his next guest, Xia Yi, who had just gotten home, pulled up his live stream on her tablet and set it on the living room coffee table.

Xia Yi’s parents were sitting on the sofa next to the table.

”Yiyi,” Mother Xia said, a little confused. ”Didn’t you say you were going to see the Matchmaker? How did it go? Why are you on your tablet the moment you get home?”

”I didn’t get to see her.”

”The matchmaking agency was closed.”

”Then was it a wasted trip?” Mother Xia leaned over to glance at the tablet. ”What’s this? A live stream?”

”Not a completely wasted trip. I found a Matchmaker.”

”It’s him, Teacher Zhang.”

Xia Yi turned the tablet to face her parents.

”Help me vet him first. See if this Matchmaker is trustworthy. I think he seems pretty legit.”

Hearing this, not only Mother Xia, but even Father Xia, who had been busy arranging work in a group chat, put down his phone to help vet the man for his daughter.

Their daughter was taking the initiative to find a Matchmaker. What parent wouldn’t support that?

Father Xia gave her a direct thumbs-up. ”You’re making progress.”

”Alright, alright, don’t bring your work habits home with you,” Mother Xia said, shooting him a glare before immediately turning back to her daughter with a wide smile. ”So, this Matchmaker Zhang, what did he say?”

”How long did he say it would take to find someone for you?”

”He hasn’t said yet. I haven’t had a proper talk with him,” Xia Yi said, shaking her head and pointing to the tablet. ”Just watch the stream for now.”

”Okay, we’ll watch for a bit then.”

”If this Matchmaker is the real deal, then getting you married shouldn’t be a problem.”

...

「In the live stream.」

Zhang Zhe encountered his first guest who turned on her camera right from the start.

’She was a very plain-looking young woman, maybe a 3 out of 10 on looks. But he’d give her an extra 0.5 points just for being willing to turn on her camera.’

’Confidence is its own kind of beauty, after all.’

”Hello, Teacher. I’m from Zhongyuan Province.”

”I was born in 2000, have an associate’s degree, and was on a government scholarship for teacher training. I’m now teaching at a rural elementary school with a tenured position, and my monthly income is around 4,000.”

”As for my family, both my parents are tenured teachers. I also have a younger brother who is currently in college, pursuing a standard bachelor’s degree.”

”I came on because I’d like you to analyze my situation, Teacher. What kind of person can I realistically find?”

[This girl seems really sincere.]

[Rural family plus a younger brother... another disastrous starting hand.]

[Her accent sounds familiar. Is she from Anxiang?]

[Standard answer: find another teacher at her school.]

”What about your height and weight?” Zhang Zhe asked, looking at her. ”From your face, I’m guessing you’re on the shorter side.”

”Yes, I have a major weakness. My height is only 151 cm, and I weigh 40 kg.”

’After hearing her description, Zhang Zhe could already picture her build.’

’He remembered a teacher just like that from his middle school days—short, skinny, and with a bit of a temper.’

’She ended up marrying an elementary school teacher from the next town over.’

’This was the typical outcome for rural teachers. They either found a partner within the education system or married a local civil servant.’

’They generally didn’t resort to matchmaking agencies.’

”Has no one been pursuing you? Most of your colleagues probably met their partners through their daily lives, right?”

”Yes, a lot of them married people they knew from around here.”

”But my situation is that I’m not interested in the ones pursuing me, and the ones I like aren’t interested in me.”

”I can’t reach high enough, and I won’t stoop low enough.”

”I can tell you have certain aspirations for marriage,” Zhang Zhe analyzed. ”There’s nothing wrong with that. The key is whether you have the cards to back up those aspirations.”

”Besides your stable career, do you have any other strengths?”

”Strengths...” the young woman thought for a moment. ”My parents bought a house in the city. Does that count?”

Zhang Zhe shook his head. ”Don’t you have a younger brother? That house probably has nothing to do with you, right?”
