Livestream Matchmaking: My Intel Infinitely Refreshes

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: I’m Really No Good

”Okay, Teacher. If I investigate and find out for sure, can I come back and consult with you again?”

”Of course. If it’s in the evening, you can even catch me on Xiaohongshu.”

”Okay, thank you, Brother Zhang.”

When the woman signed off, her voice sounded much brighter than before. For her, the fact that the male boss was a scammer actually made the decision easier.

If he had really been a charity case, she might have felt a psychological burden.

Seeing that the young woman had actually taken his advice to heart, Zhang Zhe felt a sense of satisfaction.

What was even more satisfying was that the system had actually awarded him 2 Happiness Points this time.

The reason given was:

[Faced with the temptation of beauty, the host was able to stay true to himself and perfectly completed this matchmaking session. He even helped the matchmaking candidate, significantly improving your reputation in the matchmaking market and helping you find a better partner.]

Zhang Zhe felt the system had a point.

’I helped the young woman,’ he thought. ’In her excitement, she might even introduce me to her school’s campus belle. This is the reward for doing a good deed!’

”Alright everyone, it’s getting late.”

”This streamer is clocking out for the day. Thanks to the more than 900 viewers in the stream room for keeping me company at work. If you’re interested, you can come join me for some overtime on Xiaohongshu tonight.”

”Is the Xiaohongshu stream good?”

”Bro, that’s a worthless question.”

”Did you guys forget about that girl from the Xiaohongshu matchmaking stream this morning? Let’s just say, over on Xiaohongshu, someone like her is just a plain Jane.”

...

After ending the stream, Zhang Zhe hadn’t even had a chance to stand up before the door to his room opened.

Two women were standing at the door.

Zhang Zhe was very familiar with the older one. It was the owner of the matchmaking agency, He Juan. Just yesterday, she had him re-sign a contract, adding a monthly salary of 10,000 yuan before taxes, plus social insurance and a housing fund, on top of the previous terms.

At the same time, she’d made an agreement with Zhang Zhe: if he planned to jump ship to another matchmaking agency, he had to give Boss He a heads-up.

Job-hopping was always about the money, after all. The ’old aunty’ hoped that if the day of their ”breakup” ever came, Zhang Zhe would give her a chance to make a counteroffer.

’The old aunty is overthinking things,’ Zhang Zhe thought.

’I’m just a part-timer. Am I really going to spend my whole life in the matchmaking business?’

But Boss He and Mrs. Xu both saw it clearly: with Zhang Zhe’s potential, he was bound to become a great matchmaker in the future.

The young man was still thinking about returning to Shencheng City to be a programmer one day, but that was only because he was new to the business and hadn’t yet experienced its perks.

The other woman standing outside the door looked a little unfamiliar.

She had an oval face and wore thick-framed glasses, with the air of a schoolteacher.

Seeing her attire, Zhang Zhe immediately guessed her identity. This must be Mrs. Xu’s apprentice—Teacher Wang.

’After all, who in their right mind would wear a blue-and-white vertically striped patient’s gown for no reason?’

’Isn’t it obvious she’s got a few screws loose?’

”Xiaozhang, Teacher Wang is here.” Boss He made the introduction enthusiastically. ”Teacher Wang, this is Zhang Zhe, the successor personally chosen for you by Teacher Xu. What do you think? Not a bad presence, right?”

”I’ve got something to take care of, so I’ll get back to it. You two can chat.”

After saying this, Boss He shot Zhang Zhe a wicked grin from a distance and then left.

The look sent a shiver down Zhang Zhe’s spine.

But a guest had arrived, so he still had to show some courtesy.

”Teacher Wang, a pleasure to meet you.”

”This room is a bit of a mess. Shall we find a meeting room to talk?”

”No need.” Teacher Wang shook her head, pointing at the room where Zhang Zhe streamed. ”This is fine. It’s more private.”

”As it happens, I have something private I’d like to discuss with you.”

”Oh, right, I brought you a gift!”

Seeing Teacher Wang walk over holding a pharmacy bag, Zhang Zhe had a bad feeling.

He took it and looked inside. Well now, it was indeed medicine.

There were two types: one was a sedative, and the other was for controlling blood pressure.

’A targeted prescription, clearly,’ he thought.

”Xiaozhang, keep this medicine. Better to be safe than sorry.”

”I know what kind of clients you deal with on Xiaohongshu. In this life, making money isn’t the most important thing. Health is what truly matters.”

Since Teacher Wang had put it that way, Zhang Zhe had no choice but to accept.

”Thank you, Teacher Wang. I’ll be sure to take care.”

”Mhm, actually, you can just call me Sister Wang.”

”Teacher Xu told me about you. She said you have a strong resistance to stress and not much empathy, so you don’t get easily drawn into your clients’ emotions.”

”I watched your stream for a bit today, and it’s true.”

”Someone like you is perfect for being a streamer.”

”You’re too kind, Teacher Wang.” Zhang Zhe smiled and waved his hand dismissively. ”You’re a bit like Teacher Xu. You both like to praise people.”

”Is that so? Did my teacher praise you like that too?”

”Not exactly, but you both exaggerate a lot.”

”That’s normal.” Teacher Wang said very bluntly, ”I learned it from my teacher. Before you ask someone for a favor, you have to praise them until they’re happy.”

”I must have made you happy with my praise, right? Because you were smiling.”

”Huh?” Zhang Zhe’s smile vanished instantly.

’What does this lady mean? What kind of favor does she want?’

’Is everyone in the matchmaker circle this fond of asking for favors?’

In fact, Zhang Zhe wasn’t wrong. In the matchmaker circle of a small city, especially among the old-school, offline matchmaking crowd, it really was a ”you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” situation.

Usually, though, it was just about exchanging resources.

Someone like Teacher Xu, who asked for help with her actual work, was quite rare.

”Xiaozhang, I need you to do me a favor.”

Teacher Wang’s tone was a bit like Fa Hai’s, as if she were asking Zhang Zhe to help her attain enlightenment.

But she was more sensible than Fa Hai:

”I won’t treat you unfairly. Aren’t you helping Teacher Xu with her stream? You’re probably new to the business and don’t know the market, but honestly, matchmaking streams don’t really make much money.”

”With just those consultation fees, you’d be lucky to sell even one package a month...”

Zhang Zhe really wanted to tell her that he had just sold 99 of them yesterday.

But considering this Teacher Wang wasn’t all there, he figured it was best not to agitate her.

He nodded. ”Yes, it really doesn’t pay much, but Teacher Xu is giving me a salary.”

”Five thousand a month, right?”

”Right.”

”I’ll give you five thousand for one day.” Teacher Wang held up five fingers. ”A day’s work for a month’s pay. How about it?”

Zhang Zhe hesitated for a moment. ”I sell my skills, not my body.”

”That won’t do. You have to sell.”

”How do I have to sell?”

”Go host an event for me.” Teacher Wang said with a grave expression, ”On the 1st of next month, the matchmaking corner at Lotus Park is holding an event, and our agency has scheduled me to go.”

”I consulted my doctor, and he suggested I hire a medical team, so if something happens on-site, they can perform an emergency rescue immediately.”

”Is your condition that serious?” Zhang Zhe looked at Teacher Wang. Aside from her face being a bit long, he couldn’t see anything else wrong with her.

Teacher Wang pointed to her own head and said, ”The problem is in here.”

”Oh, I see.” Zhang Zhe understood what she meant. ”You want me to go in your place, right?”

”Not in my place. With me.”

”I’ll clock in and then run.”

”The original service fee is three thousand yuan. I’ll personally subsidize you another two thousand.” Teacher Wang pressed her palms together. ”Please help me. I really can’t handle it.”

”This event is a hard requirement for my year-end performance review. I have to participate.”

”But that place... 90% of the people there are older, single women. The mental shock is just too much for me. Every time I go, it takes me half a month to recover.”

”It’s all single women?” Zhang Zhe’s eyes lit up. ’A wonderful place like that exists, and nobody told me about it?’
