Pillar of Yita

”Ship, Lord Captain, Mr. Lair...” The Magic Guided Conductor was a bit dumbfounded, looking back from the Wind Detector, and dry-mouthed, couldn’t make any sound for a moment.

It seemed as if the wind flowing across the deck had swallowed all the noise, leaving only the piercing sound from outside in the lower cabin.

The Captain, wrapped in a coat, stood there without moving.

Lair opened his mouth, barely managing to squeeze out a hoarse sentence: ”...Have the Seagull hurry and evade; the intelligence is incorrect... As for the other two guilds, I’ll negotiate with them myself...”

”But...”

”No buts,” Lair’s voice rose sharply, uncharacteristically: ”Losing two airships in half an hour, there’s nothing more serious than this — at this rate of loss, the other airships won’t have the chance to approach. If we continue fighting, we’ll all become laughingstocks!”

He paused, his voice softening a bit: ”Win or lose.”

After a while, the native captain finally spoke: ”Mr. Lair is right.” The other party’s voice carried a slight tremble.

The Magic Guided Conductor was startled for a moment, then hastily nodded.

...

”We’ve lost thirteen Spear Cavalries, Mr. Knight.”

Tata’s emerald eyes sparkled with a light, as if looking towards a distant direction, the focus of her gaze not on anyone in front of her. She looked in that direction and, pausing for a moment, reported in a cold and emotionless voice.

Fang Hong was watching the clouds flowing past the outer ring of the Air Combat Deck. The meteorological conditions near Kailan Ao created an excellent favorable environment for this battle. Although the Heart of Fairy and Miss Tata had been coordinating for some time, the limit for controlling the Spear Cavalries was only about ten kilometers.

If not for the Cloud Wall environment, the Seven Seas Traveler being within visual range, the suddenness of the Spear Cavalries’ attack would have been significantly reduced. Although they had discovered in several simulated combats that Constructs had many natural advantages when engaging with airships — such as agility, higher ascent rates, stronger concealment, and so on.

But they were also aware of the tactical flaw that if the opposition concentrated the Wind Riders together, the Spear Cavalries’ effectiveness would not be as significant.

Moreover, there was still an absolute disparity in strength between the two sides. If the Seven Seas Traveler got encircled, it would also be difficult to escape unharmed. This wasn’t on Earth, where naval aviation had a combat range of hundreds of kilometers. The Heart of Fairy on the Seven Seas Traveler didn’t support the Agility Constructs as powerfully.

The losses in the second wave of attacks were even greater than in the first, due to the Torch being somewhat prepared after the attack on the Onoi. Moreover, they encountered the opponent’s Wind Rider squad in between.

During the attack on the Onoi, the Seven Seas Traveler only lost four Spear Cavalries, but against the Torch, the number of losses rose to thirteen, plus two that malfunctioned in between, totaling a loss of seventeen Constructs, nearly half of the Constructs launched in the first wave.

However, in his Construct sequence, the Spear Cavalry was only more expensive than the Fire Giant and the Walker but even less valuable than the Energy Angel and Silver Bee. It was always intended as a disposable Construct.

And with seventeen Constructs exchanged for two airships, this exchange ratio was already sufficient to rewrite history.

Unfortunately, as the secret weapon of the Seven Seas Travel Group, the details of this battle were destined not to be voluntarily disclosed for a long time. Perhaps people would speculate for a long time about what really happened during this battle over Kailan Ao.

Mei opened her small mouth slightly, unable to close it for a long while, her gaze flickering slightly:

”We, we... have already sunk two ships...?”

She looked at the others with some disbelief.

If it weren’t for trusting these people wouldn’t deceive her, Miss Knight almost thought she was being played by a union.

Fang Hong merely nodded silently.

”Launch another two waves, Miss Tata, and replenish the losses.”

”What about the movement of the remaining ship?”

”It is retreating, but still blocking our way, Mr. Knight.”

”Then let the attack cluster change direction, we’ll strike straight through.”

There was at least one more attack cluster of the same scale in the warehouse, an inventory rushed through these days with overtime — with the Earth Origin Crystal, it was too easy to replenish a Construct like the Spear Cavalry with its simple concept, Fang Hong wasn’t afraid of losses.

He looked at the Cloud Sea on the horizon, his tone filled with determination.

...

On that day, the residents of Kailan Ao, the Travelers and Merchant Groups passing through the large pass witnessed this spectacle.

In the descriptions of later generations, the battle of that day was recorded as follows:

’Firelight blossomed mid-air, flickering into surging fiery flames, as if lighting up the gloomy sky—’

’Many people heard the thunderous sounds, rumbling, flickering with light, cutting through the clouds;’

’The first, second, and third smoke trails fell from mid-air, dragging long tails.’

’In a decade, people had rarely seen a battle of such scale;’

’Initially, some even thought it was the Empire making a comeback, reminding many of the great battle that took place in Bain—’

In fact, on that day, many Adventurers staying in this place, using Record Crystals to capture footage, were able to prove the authenticity of this passage of text; only when those swirling fires, thunderous sounds, and the rolling thick smoke on the horizon was uploaded along with the video documenting everything to the community—

The entire community, the entire Third District, the whole of Eteliria was shaken.

The wandering horse, after watching the entire video for the third time, still couldn’t hide his excitement. He gently placed his hand on the keyboard and wrote such a line as the title:

’Facing one against a hundred, a new era might have already arrived—’
