Pillar of Yita

”Let me guess,” Su Changfeng immediately became alert and asked keenly, ”Is this so-called good news also related to this?”

Ambassador Liao nodded.

Unable to find the person, there’s an eighty to ninety percent chance that the other party hasn’t been trapped in the Dead Silence Zone beneath Fenris. It’s possible they’re still in Eteliria, which is undoubtedly the best news.

The military just needs to allocate manpower to find the target in Eteliria.

However, he furrowed his brows slightly, becoming somewhat serious: ”Of course, we cannot rule out the worst-case scenario.”

Su Changfeng was taken aback, and his expression also became somber. Just as he said, he was a soldier used to considering the worst-case scenario, and as a senior officer at Stargate Port, he naturally understood what the ”worst case” was.

Such cases are rare, though not unprecedented in history, and have caused significant negative impacts.

His old superior had left his post quietly for this very reason.

Ambassador Liao shook his head and continued: ”But until we have evidence, let’s keep that as a reserved option. For now, we assume the other party is still in Eteliria.”

Su Changfeng came to his senses, sat back by the bed, instinctively reached for his pipe, but remembered where he was, withdrew his hand, and tapped his fingers on the bedside.

He looked up and asked: ”Do you want me to lead the search operation?”

”The Special Preparation Team can’t spare any personnel.”

”What’s the word from above?”

”The assignment order has already been issued.”

”Naturally, I’ll follow the order,” Su Changfeng immediately replied. But after thinking for a moment, he asked casually: ”Do you think that kid is still in Fenris?”

”Hard to say,” Ambassador Liao shook his head: ”Quite a few flights have left Cloud Harbor recently, and we can’t possibly check them all. Theoretically, the other party should contact us directly.”

The ambassador paused: ”But we can’t rule out special circumstances.”

Su Changfeng was a bit curious: ”Is there really someone so low-key? This is quite a famous opportunity.”

”Anyone could be,” Ambassador Liao said calmly: ”However, the reason I recommended you for this task is another matter. Your precious daughter mentioned she once struck a deal with the target, and that deal is yet to be completed—”

Su Changfeng suddenly remembered this, as he was present at the time: ”I happen to know about this matter. Why? Does Sophie have any leads?”

Ambassador Liao showed a hint of resignation on his face.

”The problem is your Sophie won’t say a word. We’re not sure if the other party refuses to contact her or if she’s hiding something from us,” he thought for a moment, ”The intel indicates that she recently went south of the Great Canyon, bringing only the Companion Star Knight, although this is part of Silver Weslan’s tasks—But I heard she gave up another task to apply for it.”

Thinking of his troublesome daughter, Su Changfeng couldn’t help but feel a headache. Sometimes having a daughter who is too clever and too headstrong isn’t necessarily a good thing.

At least as her father, he never has a moment’s peace.

”She went to Dulun?” He knew his daughter well enough to understand she wouldn’t easily abandon a task. There must be another reason for her actions. Both families have always been close, a fact clearly known to his old classmate, hence the question.

Ambassador Liao nodded.

”Is Silver Weslan’s task related to that matter?” Su Changfeng asked again.

The other party nodded again.

Su Changfeng was silent for a moment before finally looking up.

”Alright,” he sighed and replied: ”I will personally lead the team over there to take a look.” But after glancing at his old classmate, he suddenly changed the topic: ”But honestly, did you also send me there to assess the situation in the Southern Region?”

Ambassador Liao let out a long breath: ”I knew I couldn’t hide it from you.”

He continued: ”Over there, they always use commercialization as an excuse to act arbitrarily, but with the recent power transition in the Kingdom, the higher-ups are very dissatisfied. You know, our diplomatic principle is not to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, the same applies to Eteliria. However, this time the Alliance’s actions have crossed some lines—”

”Just that considering the international impact, the higher-ups are trying to restrain themselves...”

”So my mission is?”

”On the one hand, to see if your precious daughter is really going to meet the target, and if possible, to protect the other party,” Ambassador Liao thought for a moment: ”On the other hand, since the incident in July... communication was completely cut off. After the Dulun School declared the trade routes closed in September, intelligence couldn’t get in or out.”

”And the Alliance is being vague, never providing a clear statement. Most of the Invokers are still unaware of what exactly happened in the Southern Region, although the news will eventually come to light.”

”Charter City is also in chaos. In fact, not only Stargate Port, even the Artisan Association has sent people to ask for our help.”

Su Changfeng quietly listened. As a senior figure at Stargate Port, he knew some insider information and was aware of the events that happened in the Southern Region a few months ago. After a moment’s silence, he asked: ”Our official status?”

”Originally, the Artisan Association could have arranged one for you, but due to their current tense relations with the Dulun Alchemist Alliance, we must find a way ourselves. Fortunately, there’s an opportunity available at the moment.”
