Pillar of Yita

Good luck is indeed a part of strength. But luck can never last forever. Without enough caution, adventurers often don’t get far. This is an ancient maxim from the Adventurers’ Guild.

Therefore, Fang Hong had to re-evaluate his combat style, and became more cautious when facing dangers.

He turned his head and simply said, ”Be careful, they can hear your voice.”

The Imperial Guard Swordsman instinctively shut his mouth at the thought of the things chasing them. Although Fang Hong’s words had no mysterious tone, they still sent a shiver down the spines of others.

As if to confirm Fang Hong’s words, a ’crackling’ sound came from the quiet darkness.

Fang Hong listened to that sound, familiar as if he were back home—Undead Creatures—since leaving Traveler’s Rest, the enemies he’s encountered, aside from undead, were mostly cultists.

As an Invoker, the experience was quite odd, and Fang Hong was a bit speechless.

He already knew what was coming. While talking to these people, Fang Hong had already released his Clockwork Fairy.

A few Black Swordsmen—undead Imperial Guards clad in pitch-black armor, wearing horned helmets as their typical feature, with red glimmers in their eyes in the darkness, a total of eight of them, but beneath the armor they were merely stronger skeletons. Level seventeen, no wonder they chased these few up and down.

Black Swordsmen, though named swordsmen, are actually warrior-type monsters. Besides melee, they’re also skilled at spear throwing, each carrying three Soul Spears on their backs, restoring one approximately every three to four breaths after use, posing a considerable threat to Wizards, Healers, and Archers.

If warriors can’t engage in close combat, fighting Black Swordsmen is quite exasperating.

The reason Fang Hong extinguished the Illumination Crystal was naturally to avoid becoming a target in the dark—undead creatures have Dark Vision, but their perception in the dark is only about one hundred feet.

Thirty meters, enough to decide victory or defeat.

Of course, under normal conditions, dealing with eight Black Swordsmen would be quite troublesome, but this place provided an opportunity—upon starting to carefully think about the battle plan, despite being in darkness, his thought process was particularly clear.

At this moment, Gita received his message and cautiously fumbled her way up.

She adjusted her large glasses in the dark, looking uneasily at the others. Miss Natural Historian is always a bit shy, but fortunately, Miss Tata sat comfortably on her shoulder, providing her some comfort.

Daisy was also wandering around the feet of people at some point.

”I’m here, Captain.” Gita said softly.

Fang Hong nodded.

He was concerned the light from the Communication Crystal might attract attention, so he put away the crystal, and lowered his voice, ”Gita.”

”Yes.”

”Within the range of one hundred twenty to one hundred fifty feet ahead, there are eight targets, Black Swordsmen, around level seventeen—there is water on the ground, about three to five inches deep. I will summon a construct at a distance of one hundred feet, using the Anstali Great Glacier chapter—”

Fang Hong didn’t say more.

While communication aids cooperation, he had already described the battlefield conditions, distance, and combat factors for a real Natural Historian, it was sufficient.

Teammates can’t be expected to understand every spell of each Natural Historian. Therefore, in most situations, the Natural Historian needs to decide the spell based on the battlefield environment and the state of the battle—this is also the biggest difference between a professional Natural Historian and a novice.

Although Gita was just a novice, she would eventually grow. Tabopolis chose her as the successor of the Magic Guided Book, indicating this shy little girl had her unique qualities.

Gita silently nodded after hearing this. She glanced outward, then withdrew and gently opened the Magic Guided Book.

The others, after hearing Fang Hong’s words, were still a bit confused.

They didn’t catch the last four words ’Summoning Construct’, but Fang Hong’s grasp of the battlefield surprised them greatly—they weren’t sure if Fang Hong was bragging, but he accurately predicted that undead Black Swordsmen were coming—which matched the reality.

”Adventurer, sir...” Miss Priestess stammered, probably thinking he was some veteran philosopher, ”Those things are really hard to deal with, be careful...”

Fang Hong nodded to her, expressing thanks.

Miss Priestess was startled, not expecting him to be so agreeable. She assumed that veteran adventurers were aloof. She didn’t realize that the person before her, whose face she couldn’t see clearly—actually wasn’t of much higher level than her.

But that was the end of Fang Hong’s interaction. At this moment, as Gita opened the Magic Guided Book, the Ether Guidance on the metal front page gave a faint glimmer, the only light in the darkness.

Fang Hong wasn’t sure if the undead could detect this tiny light source, but he made a sidestep, while overloading the Shield System on the Magic Guided Reactor.

Those Black Swordsmen reacted even quicker than he imagined. As Gita was guiding the spell, the foremost undead suddenly pulled a spear from its back and hurled it in their direction.

A sharp whistling sound echoed in the darkness.

But the Little Fatty warrior surprisingly judged correctly, quickly raising his shield to block in front. The Soul Spear hit the center of the shield, trailing a long spark, but though he blocked it, the difference in level was so great that the massive impact knocked him off balance.
